Finished Archive 81 last night. Thought that, overall, it was a bit shit.

The first episode, maybe two, set up this super creepy weird situation which then ran out of ideas very very quickly. The central "what's going on" mystery about the building was pretty straightforward, so we just got to see the lead in that situation make dumb decision after dumb decision whilst often shouting uncontrollably.

Mostly while not pointing her camcorder in any kind of useful way given what Dan was supposed to be watching.

In the present day we just have Stupid Dan, being stupid.

The horror element was super weak, the mystery element was super weak, episode 7 was a complete waste of an hour in an 8 hour series, and the pay off was a sub-Stranger Things resolution to everything.

Overall I'd rate it boring/10

There’s a lovely documentary on Netflix at the moment called I Believe In Miracles, which charts Brian Clough’s steerage of Nottingham Forest to their two European Cup wins in 1979 & 80. Great footage, great talking heads from the team and a cracking selection of soul tunes from the era into the bargain.

I watched The Tinder Swindler a couple of days ago, and honestly the bloke impressed me with the amount of effort he put into it. Funnily enough none of the girls mentioned anything about his personality during the dates, all they talked about was that he was rich

Really liked the first ep of Inventing Anna, the dramatisation of the story about a fake socialite/heiress on the NY scene who got sent down for fraud. I'm loosely aware of the story but not the detail, so not sure how close to the truth this will be.

Ruth Langmore actress from Ozark is one of the leads and not sure yet if she's doing a great portrayal of the euro fake princess or her accent is a bit Littlefinger. Amy from Veep as the journo seems very well cast.

Second episode is great. Julia Garner is amazing in it and it's good to see Anna Clumsky again.

Not sure of it goes rapidly downhill or if I just didn’t feel the vibe but wife inflicted a few episodes of this on me and all I could think is it was sub gossip girl but infinity worse.

All the Marvel shows are leaving on 28/2/22.

I loved DD S1 & 2 and JJ S1. I never got around to finishing the rest. These were the reason I originally subscribed to Netflix and I just considered cancelling but then remembered Better Call Saul is coming back.

Are any of the other Marvel seasons worth binging in the next 2 weeks ?

DD S3 is also decent, otherwise you've already seen the best of them.

I wonder if these will pop up on Disney+ now.

It's mental. Also how much money that girl took out unsecured (and that the banks let her) it's crazy.

The BBC did an excellent drama doc a while back on this story, by the sounds of things it’s much better than the Netflix show: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand/m000c9mb

That was great but what I think the tv drama is doing better is pointing out the equivalences - the bullshitter tech bro who raises and wastes investment, the artists who seek funding from the rich by flattering and bulkshitting, the vacuous circles of loaded folk who earned their fortunes through luck or accident, the financial people for whom money and investment is an academic matter.

My GF and I were talking about how he can't have had much of a life. He was constantly moving, he didn't have a fixed address. So even with all that money coming in, it's not like he could buy a house or car, he could only own what he could fit in suitcases.

Anyone watch Murderville? Watched all episodes last night and really enjoyed it.  Will Arnett is always good and it made me laugh quite a bit. Favourite guest stars were Conan O'Brien (being forced to eat the hot sauce was hilarious), Kumail Nanjiani and Ken Jeong, but all were good.

Just been announced that season four of Stranger Things will be split into two. First half releases 27th May and and then second half 1st July.

Also confirmed that season five will be the final one.

Synopsis for season four:

Spoiler

“It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time — and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”

Watched the first part of the Kanye documentary "jeen-yhus". I don't really know much of the man's music, but I do like watching documentaries on musicians so this obviously scratched that itch.

I know some of the stuff hes gotten up to in the media and it's been interesting seeing the confidence he has in himself, the naivety he has towards the music industry and also, really heartwarmingly, the relationship he has with his mum.

Good news for Chapelle fans.

Dave Chappelle is still very much on Netflix’s home team.

The streamer announced Friday the release of four upcoming comedy specials executive produced and hosted by the controversial comic.

The series of specials is dubbed Chappelle’s Home Team, and each will feature a different comic introduced by Chappelle.

The first to be featured is Earthquake (real name Nathaniel Martin Stroman), and his special, called Earthquake: Legendary, premieres on Feb. 28. Another special will spotlight Donnell Rawlings. One similarity shared by all the featured comics is they’ve been in the stand-up game for at least 30 years.

“I’ve been doing this a long time and comedians like Quake and Donnell are not only friends but have inspired my own career,” Chappelle said. “Anyone in the comedy community knows these names and knows their time to shine is long overdue. I am proud to be a part of this moment.”

I LOVED Inventing Anna - it was compelling trash, which I’m always onboard with.

I thought The Defenders was alright - certainly better than the Iron Fist and Luke Cage solo series.

What's this Guardians thing Netflix is pushing? It auto-played when I first went on and it looks horrendous. A mishmash of styles that don't work. Live action actors with cartoon animation mixed with some video game stuff. The 30 seconds I saw gave me a headache.
