It's terrible. I would recommend reading the thread here but it seems to have vanished.

Yep. Of the Conen series only Safe was ok.

Meh they are all terrible but also all very intricately plotted and compelling until they reach an inevitably underwhelming climax.

Safe is the best by a long way, due both to its amazing cast and sheer wtf plot twists but if you enjoyed it then I think you would get some fun out of both The Stranger and Safe.

Just realised there’s two other adaptions I haven’t watched so plenty more trash tv to come!!

I quite enjoyed Silent Sea. A bit of an odd one, not a great deal happens and what does is either pretty obvious before it does or just plain silly, but it was quite engaging and looked fantastic.

Only one episode to go and I think it's a bit meh.  Getting annoyed by what feels like bad / lazy writing.  Aspects of the world, the mission, the science, etc., all seem incredibly poorly thought through, and only exist, or change, for plot convenience.

But the look and feel of the show is good, and Bae Doona is great in everything.

Yes, I don’t disagree with any of that. I did enjoy watching it though!

On The Standups i liked Brian Simpson, season 3 episode 1, also helps i agreed with everything he said, he wasn't really telling jokes. It's worth a try. Standup is so hit and miss for me. Mostly miss. If the material is not there, it doesn't matter how much energy they put behind it. He's someone who didn't need to put any effort into delivery because the material is there. So much of standup is smug and annoying, i prefer dry and simple.

Well then, just finished Cheer Season 2.

That was very good. The concentration on the toll of celebrity, the toxicity of the internet, and the nature of competitiveness and how it divides people who should probably be friends was fascinating and, to be honest, a little upsetting.

I genuinely didn't know who to root for at the end.

Amazing documentary making from Greg Whitely.

Blimey, this second season of Cheer is a bit different.

It's excellent stuff. Not the warm feelings of Season 1, but how could it be any different? Ep 5 I was dreading when I saw the title.

Spoiler

The situation was worse than the media reporting had led me to believe at the time

Blimey I'm rather impressed with Archive81 so far. Only on ep2 and still have 20 mins left.  But liking the mystery. The cast are great and the aesthetic.

And it's all a bit HP Massive racist. So I'm intrigued.

Though if it starts bleeding into reality like Providence did then I'm out before I get my mind melted by the sight of an ancient eldritch horror.

I'm a couple of eps in and I'll certainly keep watching for they mystery. But I just want to say I find the idea of someone who is constantly filming with a camcorder as she goes about her life very annoying and if I knew that person I'd choose to not be around her.

And I feel a little sorry for Athie whose acting job has an awful lot of "emoting while looking at a screen".

Finished the latest series of Narcos: Mexico. I always miss it when it's gone, so I drag the last few out for a while.

Bit of a low-key ending for me —obviously the various political machinations at play are fascinating, but it all played out in an unexciting way. Which is uncharacteristic of the show.

It's still great, but the journey was better than the destination. Which is praise anyway. It's hard to end something people love in a satisfactory fashion.

Thinking of watching another Korean series, Which one would people recommend more out of Hellbound and Silent Sea?

After finishing Silent Sea, I wouldn't recommend it.  Decent production values, poor script.

Stranger (both seasons) and Sky Castle are the two best I've watched.

Watched The House (2022) the other day. It’s a collection of three stop motion animated shorts of about 30 minutes long by different directors that all revolve around a house, but otherwise are only very loosely connected. The first one is the absolute stand-out, made by the guys that did the equally terrific This Magnificent Cake in the same animation style. It has a brilliantly realized disturbing atmosphere and some memorable unsettling scenes, without ever showing anything actually explicit or outright terrifying. The other parts are not too bad either, but make sure to watch the first one especially.

Monica not coming across well at all. Especially after shes now a "celebrity" and Dancing With The Stars. Oof.

Bloke from The Raids next film.

Looks like the kind of b movie you'd find in a bargain bin in HMV. And I mean that as a compliment!

Basically a rip-off of John Le Carré’s The Honourable Schoolboy.
