Watched Unforgivable afterwards. I really really like Viola David. She is so strong. And Bullock is great as usual.

I love that these two strong women have this movie pivoting around them. Her husband, the lawyer, just fades right back. They are the two leads and despite the sad story, it’s really enjoyable to experience.

Just realised Hans Zimmer did the soundtrack. Quite distinct from him. Similar strings to Dark Phoenix. But I love the Radiohead song coming in at the end. Love that song from Vanilla Sky.

Depends upon:

a) Your musical tolerance

b) Your Jonathan Larson musical tolerance (he wrote Rent, which Miranda loves, but it's shite)

I don't mind musicals, I'm in because I like Lin-Manuel Miranda stuff and mainly for Andrew Garfield.

Never seen any of his stuff before, I heard of Rent though.

Garfield is very good in the 25 mins I saw before my wife demanded it was turned off. He's playing MAXIMUM GARFIELD.

She likes him but it's the nature of how the songs are integrated she didn't like. There's a party with a song near the start which, I'll admit, feels really forced for some reason.

Thanks for the reply mate, I give it a try and see how it goes.

i really liked it, but I like Miranda stuff (and was surprised how well he’d directed) and really liked Garfield in it. And it’s a musical, so I wasn’t that bothered about how the songs fit in and was more interested in how they were staged.

I've just watched two episodes and five minutes of Ep. 3 of Stay Close and I'm not sure if I've just had a stroke or I'm hallucinating.

It's absolutely ridiculous isn't it? The dancing preppy assassins are the stupidest thing I've seen on TV in years. It's thoroughly enjoyable trash.

Those previous Harlan Coben (?) Netflix efforts were so utterly awful I don't know if I can subject myself to this guff again.

They were poor. This is next-level awful. What do Coben and his daughter have on Netflix?

We watched the first episode but it felt a bit like they were trying to make it so bad that it’s actually entertaining to watch.

The Stranger was watchable at least.

The opening to Episode 3 is jaw-droppingly terrible.

We just got to the end.

Impressively that managed to be both one of the most awful 7 hours of TV I've ever watched and at the same time ridiculously entertaining.

There is pretty much no explanation for the Glee private detective murderers by the way - they just are there and pretty much incidental to the resolution of the plot

I’m part way through episode 3 of Stay Close and it certainly is something.

I’d say it’s a mystery show but on the same subtlety and writing level of a soap opera.

So many moments of, “really?! Why would you do/say that?!”

It’s enjoyable trash at the moment but I wish I’d have watched it with the partner just to hear her shout, “oh fuck off!” like I know she would.

Just catching up on late 2021 stuff, really enjoyed Don’t Look Up. It had a great balance between funny and depressing. Great cast.

But Jesus tick, tick Boom was amazing. I love musicals, I utterly loved every single second of it. Really beautiful and sad and inspiring. It’s going to win all the awards.

To be honest it seems to be Harlen’s thing to set off so many competing plot threads that you don’t know where the hell things are going 6 hours in but you’re gripped either way before resolving them in a final 45 minutes that has you going seriously….really?

The Stranger was pretty much the same.

The most impressive thing for Stay Close is they assembled such a great cast and the dared them to get through that script with a straight face.

Finished it.

In the end, it’s a watchable mess but I enjoyed how the mystery wrapped up and the final plot twist was a proper terrifying reveal.

Might watch The Stranger.
Still amazed that they got actual professional actors to say those lines and do those actions.
