Mr.Crowley
I hated what I watched of Don't Look Up. We quit halfway through to skip to the end to make sure Spoiler we'd never see these awful characters again.

Harrisown
Currently watching “ the silent sea” There’s some good shit coming out of Korea and some how I don’t find dub jarring at all.
Capwn
I tried watching episode 1 of silent sea, it’s dull as dish water. No idea if it will get interesting or not but these days you need to show what the unique selling point of the concept is in episode 1.

Harrisown
Now watching Dont look Up. Editing is appalling and the direction too. Ive never ever once noticed bad editing. Its not funny but I think it’s trying to be? Edit - the second half is probably better and ends up being somewhat enjoyable. I find the humour lazy and obvious. Theres some good characters like the tech guy and the dumb arse actor bringing the world together. I just find the whole thing a bit ironic, taking the piss out of the US and the general social situation yet blindly falling into the cliche that of course only America can save the world and if they don’t do anything no one will. Still think the whole thing is like watching a headache. The ending ending was actually good

Ste Pickford
Still don't understand the "it's too long" criticism for any movie that dares to go over 90 minutes. Different stories are different lengths. Thought Don't Look Up was great, and not too long at all. It's really interesting seeing viewers reactions are 95% positive, compared to the early reviews that slated it, seeing as media focusing on the wrong things was a main target of the movie. I've seen it said on twitter that some of the negative reviews to the film would have worked as segments within the film itself.
Hamus
Perhaps the most interesting thing about don't look up is that it is polarising opinion, in the same way that the film explored the polarisation of people's opinions on something slightly more serious. V3zna
Don't Look Up is fantastic. Possibly the best film I've watched this year, watched on the last day of the year.

BossSaru
Just to add my two cents on Don't Look Up. Spoiler It felt a bit longer than it needed to be, but it didn't really drag at any point. The tone reminded me of Four Lions - starting as a black comedy which became more serious and heart-wrenching as it progressed. I like that it is getting poor reviews on the press, by media outlets who can not accept satirising of their own behaviours. The aborted strike on the comet felt scarily believable to me - wealthy elites gambling the future of the world on their desire for greater wealth. If you liked it then maybe try reading Neville Shute's On The Beach for something thematically similar (but, I should warn, with added 1960s misogyny), which can be picked up on Kindle for 99p.

HarryBizzle
Brilliant. Thanks! I have Disney+ but I find the apps are awful at surfacing stuff you might like. It feels like there’s loads on there but it’s cumbersome to navigate and all they want to do is shove Pixar and Marvel down your throat. I often fall back on the iOS TV app to show me where things are available.

I hated absolutely everything about it, other than Jennifer Lawrence’s character referring back to paying for snacks. I dunno if it thought it was clever, but it was not. Oh look a dumb character smoking next to a ‘flammable’ warning sign. Hilarious. There’s got to be a smarter way to lampoon climate change deniers / antivaxxers / whoever than this. It's accurate satire.
Gigawatt
Watched Don’t look up yesterday. I thought it was really good but my word is it depressing. Not the thing to watch on Jan 1st. Some spoiler thoughts that I don’t think have been mentioned yet. Spoiler I thought an alternative way to end it would have been for China or Russia to successfully pull off a deflection mission, resulting in a lot of the US population continuing to call the whole thing a hoax, and the president using it to stoke up tension over lost mineral revenue. I do agree that the way the plot works now is very US-centric and pretty much discounts any other nations. The scene at the rally where the crowd see the comet for the first time and then immediately turn against the president’s son didn’t ring true for me, I think we’ve seen enough in the last few years to know that when people are entrenched in their ways then facts aren’t going to help. I did like the little sub-plot of shovels, and one shot with a store-window sign saying “shovels only $599.99”. Brought back memories of toilet roll and hand sanitiser, I wonder if that was a pre or post-pandemic addition? It just depressed me thoroughly as I could see that this is what would happen for real, although probably even worse in terms of out and out mayhem. I struggle to say I enjoyed it, but I do think it is a very good film.

wev
Just watched 27 Gone Too Soon which is about the "27 Club", which has brief talking head moments going on about Brian Jones, Janis Joplin, Hendrix, Cobain etc but then spends its final 10 minutes going having alot of the talking heads (all from the music industry) going "well, we invested in them, we gave them what we wanted" rather than any admittance that the music industry has any fault. NexivRed
Maggie Gyllenhaal’s first movie as director, The Lost Daughter with Olivia Colman. I could talk about this movie for hours, but I won’t because it will drive everybody insane. Mostly myself. I think she did really, really, really well. And I don’t know how this could have worked with anyone but Colman. If you let yourself get sucked in then it’s really uneasy. Especially watching as a parent and being able to identify with some of the specific shit children can create for you. It’s left me with the opinion that it’s inhumane for just one or two adults to bring up a child. To be left alone to do it all. It just shouldn’t happen to our species.
