Watched 'How it Ends'.  Pretty decent little movie - a sort of apocalyptic road movie.  Nicely shot with good use of CGI and who doesn't love a bit of Forest Whitaker? Having said that, I found the ending hugely dissatisfying!

The ending was bizarre. As were some loose ends. I thought it seemed unfinished.

Difficult to talk about without spoilers

Spoiler

They either thought there might be a sequel or they’re deliberately keeping it ambiguous. But is the ambiguity supposed to be the ‘simulation’ bullshit the guy at the end went on about?

It was keeping me interested as I thought we were going to find out what caused the disaster but then we don’t.

The way they introduce the Indian girl who then decides to wander off was also slightly bizarre.

Despite all of that it was ok. I’m a sucker for apocalyptic stuff mind.

There’s a new series of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee which is the sort of background TV that’s not particularly amazing but infinity watchable.

Funny you should mention that, we just got a new TV (I'm late to the 4k party) so I wanted to watch some 4k content. Found this and since then it's been on in the background for the last 2 weeks. It's just nice filler, when you don't want to think or see anything horrible there is this little innocent pick me up of a show. It's great.

There's a new Last Chance U out now. New school, new coach, new players, new staff.

Not loving it as much as the previous two, but it's still a good watch. The new coach is quite a guy and NOTHING like the last bellend. He's a very entertaining fella & has a massive potty mouth.

I've not really got any interest at all in American Football as a sport, but the way they edit & show the games make it all very dramatic and exciting.

I suppose it's not really about the game though, is it?

Anyone else watching?

Spoiler

Looking at the episode descriptions it appears there is an extra episode at the end of season 3 which catches up with what the key characters from seasons 1 & 2 are up to now. It's entitled S4,E1, so maybe back to the old house next time then?

Really? It’s had some horrible reviews.

I was thinking the same. Looks like the usual dross that studios sell to Netflix because they know it won't make any money in cinemas.

And speaking of which.... Netflix just bought the rights to that Jungle Book movie "Mowgli" directed by Andy Serkis.

Bit late to the party, however I have been watching The Staircase on Netflix with my partner and at times we can't take it too seriously because Michael Peterson looks too much like Dr Cox (John C. McGinley). Aside from that, it is a really interesting watch so far.

My surprising straight to Netflix discovery was Wheelman. Following Mark Kermode's thing about heist movies, this one showed up as I was browsing and it is kind of worth most people's time mostly because it is 85 minutes long and I found it fun to spot the tropes. Shot almost entirely from inside the car, the majority of the drama takes place on the phone (a bit like Buried or the "Baby" episode of Supernatural), they manage to keep things interesting until the final scene.

Here is the film synopsis:

'London, 1905. Prodigal son Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens) has returned home, only to learn that his sister is being held for ransom by a religious cult. Determined to get her back at any cost, Thomas travels to the idyllic island where the cult lives under the leadership of the charismatic Prophet Malcolm (Michael Sheen). As Thomas infiltrates the island’s community, he learns that the corruption of mainland society that they claim to reject has infested the cult’s ranks nonetheless – and uncovers a secret far 'more evil than he could have imagined. Written and directed by Gareth Evans (THE RAID), APOSTLE is a harrowing occult fable where the only thing more horrifying than madness is the sinister reality behind it.'

And I assume the high rise building full of gun toting martial artists is on the middle of the island, right?

Started Jane The Virgin over the weekend. A US sitcom about a young woman who is accidentally impregnated while at her doctor. I've watched 4 (for some reason the episodes are 42 minutes long not the usual 22 minute sitcom) and it's all right. Reminds me a bit of Arrested Development, full of coincidences, misunderstandings and it even has a narrator.

It's all right. I'll probably stick with it for the first season at least.

ive been watching "dark tourist" documentary series where this guys goes around the world exploring "dark tourist" attractions - such as in Mexico taking part on a fake border crossing, or visiting fukushima where the radiation levels are still higher than Chernobyl etc .  Interesting show so far (5 episodes in) but the guys david, comes across as a bit more serious version of Louis Theroux.
