Netflix - Releases & Recommendations

Recommended Posts

This is very good.

It could have been great. But they got a bit silly once or twice.

Tried watching Altered Carbon and had to turn it off after twenty minutes. My TV is 4k and I have 4k Netflix. My TV normally lets me use my own calibrated settings. But because this show is native 4k I'm stuck with a choice between 3 preset settings. And they all have that horrible high frame rate shit that makes things look... Just wrong.

LG? You can definitely disable that smooth motion thing, even in 4k. Agree it's a bit daft that it's enabled by default though.

Yeah, I had this happen with Altered Carbon and was definitely able to change it. (TV has webOS 3.5 if that makes a difference.) It seems that when it receives a signal with Dolby Vision HDR, it switches into a separate set of presets for Dolby Vision. So you have to make the changes while it's showing that kind of content.

Recommendations-wise, there's a good Korean psychological thriller called "Forgotten" up there just now.

Another shout out for Santa Clar(edit - 'ita')a Diet.  It's ridiculous and everyone in it knows it's ridiculous, which makes it funny.  I don't usually bother with this sort of American stuff but Olyphant gets a free Wind-pass because Justified is amazing.  I'm glad I gave it a look.

Got to ask, is there a better film title on Netflix, indeed anywhere, than ‘Killer App’?

makes me laugh every time I scroll past - instantly brings to mind that brilliant dinner scene in Forgetting Sara Marshall when Jason and Russell kind of gang up on  Sara and the crap straight to video she made about a deadly mobile phone

anyone risked it?
