Netflix - Releases & Recommendations

I think it's bad. And wouldn't want it. But I can sort of see the grain of an idea. Maybe just a "smart rewind" would be better; jumps to start of scenes/cuts. And no need for the prompt.

Another thumbs up for 'Sunderland 'till I Die'.  I have no interest in football whatsoever, and no foresight of the events that the documentary covered.  That possibly helped with my enjoyment, though I expect even if you know how it all turns out it's still a great behind the scenes on 'life in a football club'.

Has anyone else watched The Domestics? Never heard of it before but I thought it was actually really good! It's basically apocalypse porn, but it's very well done.

Conan without Borders is up with Conan O'Brien's travel episodes!

How in all conscience he didn't name this something like, "Conan the Documentarian" I'll never know.

I watched the Connor McGregor docu on Saturday - Notorious. I'm not into MMA/UFC but I do like boxing. This was quite revealing and Jesus, does McGregor train for a fight. If you are into sport docs, it's worth watching. It's produced by McGregor so it is a lot like an advert for Connor McGregor a lot of the time but I enjoyed it.

Has anyone watched Norsemen? Is it good? In terms of humour, what sort of (ideally UK based) stuff is it like?

I watched the first episode and didn't find it funny at all.

Mild chuckle at best.  Quite a likable show but fairly weak as a comedy.

Yeah - I'd go along with that. Not many laughs but some nice scenery. Some really off-key rape jokes as well. I watched the first season didn't bother with the second.

Is Maniac any good? In need of a new series to binge.

I loved the first episode, and haven’t watched a single one since, I’m not sure why.

Seemed liked enough in the thread.

I think critical reception was broadly that it massively surpassed expectations (that where very very low) but never broke above average to good.

Anyone watched "Sex Education"?

Watched the first one - it was fine and exactly the show from the trailer. Gillian Anderson is good but not in it enough. It looks great but has that weird Riverdale/Sabrina timelessness where the internet exists but isn't really used and no one is on their phone. Some laughs but I think I'm too old for it.

I watched the outlaw king last night. Didn’t know much about Robert the Bruce so it was a good watch.

For some reason Chris Pine is in it

Because he's an actor. I haven't seen it but I've read he's decent.

Tried to watch Escape Room last night. Recognised the name and remembered being interested by the trailer but about 30 minutes into being very bored by it I checked and the Netflix one is Escape Room (2017) while the trailer I saw was for Escape Room (2019).

The latter looks to be a reasonably budgeted Hollywood horror with people who can act in it. The one on Netflix is...none of those things. It's pretty awful. I turned it off.

I watched the 2017 one last night. Pretty bad stuff really. I did think a couple of the puzzles were quite clever, but some.....like "head" for the combination, was just ridiculous! And as with a lot of these low budget films, bugger all happens for the first 45-60 minutes.
