Do we know what Nintendo’s policy on free to play games requiring the version of Live/PS+ is going to be? I understand on PS4 you don’t need Plus to play free games and on Live, you do. I have no intention on signing up for Nintendo’s mess.

Looks really nice in 4K on the One X, btw.

Is there a go-to site for beginners tips on Fortnite? Particularly help in how / what to build as well as some of the game modes etc.?

There is a playground mode coming soon which lets you practice your building skills and mess around with friends.
You can still get killed, but you'll get spawned back in.

No worries.... You could also ask any 12 year old family member... Most are Ninjas on this game...:D

My 23 year old son is one of those ninjas but when I showed it to him on Switch last night he said he'd decided to delete it from his XBox as it was too addictive! I only really started playing today so I'll have a chat with him tonight, just fancied some lunchtime reading at work :)

Should have brought your switch in and had some games instead.... ;)

:) Got shown the ropes by my 12 year old... Remember my first session without reading anything about it.... it was a bit confusing but in all fairness its pretty easy to pick up... but just need to have super fast reflexes... or be very stategical (ideally both). Noticed a lot of people playing don't have the stragegy element and tend to run-and-gun or just sit it out and snipe people. Like I mentioned just enjoy the experience of playing and don't worry about trying to win... :) Find it really fun...

Nintendo’s online thing is £18 a year isn’t it, with a nes game library and cloud saves, so not a massive issue.

£18 a year to play portable Fortnite isn’t made any sweeter by some ancient games  I don’t care about or cloud saves.

Have they said anything about MFI controller support for iOS?

For those interested:

Not much loss of visual fidelity then really... it will hardly be noticable really when you are in the thick of the action.... Suppose frame rates wil be the main area of difference not sure how much this will effect the gameplay when playing against each other....

Thought £18 a year was cheap TBH... certainly seems more palatable than £40-49 per year for the other consoles. Although you don't need a sub to play fortnite on PS4...just wondering if it will be same for Switch? I think Epic run the servers anyway....

Ive been playing 50 vs 50 a lot so far.

You get plenty of time to mess about, build stuff, etc as you make you way to the middle before it all kicks off.

Although playing this morning and an opposition guy must have sprinted across the map as I found him wandering around in a house surrounded by my team early I .Poor sod only had a pistol on him.

Ok, so not that I'm almost kinda maybe considering getting a Switch for this... but... is it cross platform all the time?  On PS4 you only encounter the PC Mouse 'n' Keyboard super-snipers when you're actively choosing to crossplay with a friend on PC, so most of the time it's a level playing field.  Well... kinda level.  As level as it can be.

Someone talk me out of buying a Switch for this!

Apparently, you can use any gaming headset in the Switch's 3.5mm port for voice chat. Shows Nintendo up for their ridiculous app etc.

Also, I'd love to play this with my 5 year old at the weekend, but I got a letter a couple of weeks ago from his headmaster warning about kids playing evil games like Fortnite and getting addicted. So maybe I'll be guilt-tripped into not letting him touch it. Shame.

I believe you can set to same platform.

Just spent my lunch break playing. Used my phone as a wifi hotspot and it worked perfectly.

First ever solo royale!033F916C-C266-4B6C-B8B7-40D6D7E85DE1.jpeg

I had 1 gun with only 7 bullets right to the end. Used 5 of them to drop one guy, picked up everything he had and dropped the other guy who was trying to get the highground.

So this is the latest thing to rot kids' minds.

Don't hate the game, hate the... erm, waitasec.

:) Well I guess its a change from the Mail... Slow news day on daytime TV I guess.... Seems to happen with every game that gets popular.... :-\

Simple isn't it... as a parent take the device of the child / lock down the internet so play is restricted between set hours etc just well be a parent and not blame other people for problems all the time... jeez.... anyway off my high horse... :D

Is there any point to making an Epic account on the log in screen? If I don't make one, does that mean all my progress stays on Switch alone forever?

Despite the ominous warning, you are definitely able to link an XBox or PSN account to an Epic account after the fact, so that might not necessarily be the case that you are stuck on Switch forever. You might be best making an account just in case though.

Yeah. I’m looking forward to trailing a wire across my living room next week.

The Switch should have at least have just voice via Bluetooth, the ps3 did it. With just voice it wouldn’t matter about a slight latency.

I’ve ordered this extension making sure it is wired for a mic.

Yeah... that's an issue with the kid himself. If it wasn't games, it'd be something else. He needs help from a professional, not his mum going on National TV.

Agree... Parent wanting their two minutes of fame on national TV rather than actually trying to sort the problem out.

Still you know this kind of drives the popularity of the game further.. :)

You can use a Bluetooth adapter in the port.

I was flicking through channels this morning and saw this piece, and it wasn't as shrill as I was expecting. In fact they had a child psychologist on who emphasised some of the positives of the game and made it all about the parents needing to be in control.

Since I have grown up with games, I've always kept a tight control on what my boys do and don't play, and for how long. They don't resent those limits at all as they have always been there, and they still get to play an awful lot. It would be hypocritical of me to stop them doing something that I also do so much of. But a lot of parents don't realised what their children are playing most of the time, and see it as an easy option to keep their kids quiet.

The kid they were talking about has some issues he needs help with. I have suffered with an addiction problem for 20 years (alcohol with me) and there is always an underlying problem that needs to get sorted out with this stuff. Last thing he needs is his mum on TV though telling the world he has a problem.

Thanks. More a case that I couldn't remember if I've made an Epic account in the past, as Humble on the rare occasion has given Epic too over the years. By the look of things I haven't. The warning was certainly annoying for a quick go on whatever the big deal with this game is.

Enjoying this so far. Battlepass did make it more interesting with the added challenges. Still haven't won a game, but I've come second a few times. I spend a lot of time in bushes.

It is evil apparently:

I think commercial television is probably more damaging.
