It give you the back-story to the game, I'd say yes it is worth watching along with the anime series.

Well, as I went in with no expectations, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the movie this afternoon :)

Definitely got me more excited about the game - it's gone up in the list to first day purchase now!

I watched that this morning, it was pretty funny. Is he usually that critical of what they are playing?

What I took away from watching it is that it is a game where you play as one of these guys...

He's usually having fun while having no idea what he's doing/playing (His Tomb Raider and the original Watch Dogs are worth finding). Even when he's not into the game (or games in general) he normally seems to appreciate them as something others like (while jovially mocking)

I think this is the first he's openly hated and questioned it's value as a product.

This game feels like it'll be an case study in sunk cost fallacy in the future.

He properly rips into them and only really enjoys the bits with seminaked ladies. But there's a fair bit of a nodding and winking. BUT, his channel also does livestreams of games every week and gives a lot of exposure to games so it goes both ways.

Just got an email about them doing a one night event at 30 odeon cinemas.

with that and the 3 demos ,10 year development time, pre order bonuses, season pass stuff not to mention all the other crap, I think this is a huge gamble.

Is this the real Shenmue 3?

Pre ordered it this morning all the same.

No the anime series is different from the movie, watch the anime first it tells you the back story of the three companions to Noctis.

The movies tells you the story of the king (Noctis Father) & what happens before the start of the game.

It's a bit confusing but I think the film is actually set during the early stages of the game, not before. I believe it shows stuff that happens off screen in the game and gives events a bit more context. I saw some suggestions that you should watch the film shortly after starting the game, but I can't say for sure when the ideal time is. Someone also said that they plan on patching in some scenes from the film so people just playing the game can get some context for wtf is going on.

Potential spoilers obviously below

Spoiler

I think the king has sent Noctis away for safety because he fears an impending attack. In a post credit scene you get the starting of the game with the car breaking down.

Ι do not understand the hate and constant doubt with this one. I mean, there was more positivity in the anticipation for Watch Dogs 2 for fuck's sake. Is it because of FFXIII? Is it the setting? The characters? I mean, we have generally been getting great FF games and XII is arguably the best of the lot. Where is this constant negativity coming from, really?

FFXIII and its dubious sequels are probably a big part of it, yeah. Why is that strange? FFXII was aaaaages ago, it stands to reason that the three most recent games have a bigger impact on people's views of the current state of the FF series. You could just as well point to FFVI for how relevant FFXII is in that regard.

I really, really hope FFXV is good but Squeenix have everything to prove - and everything to lose for that matter.

I had little interest in the first place. And then the Platinum demo happened and I lost that little interest. I am out, by a country mile. Also, the character design does not appeal to me.

Not hating obviously. I do hope it is an excellent game.

Well it's strange because it's an anthology series, every one has a completely different battle system, world, characters, etc. It's the one series where you not liking a previous one would matter the least. Even if FF13 was the most popular one in the entire series the next one would be completely different anyway.

Yeah I agree that the character design and the Platinum demo were both bloody awful.  No idea what they were thinking with that demo, unless they were afraid of getting *too many* pre-orders. A lot of other things about the game look great though,  but reading that one has to apparently watch some fucking anime to be able to enjoy the game (or it's at least recommended) negates a big part of that positivity again.

That's maybe the biggest problem that Squeenix have on the run-up to release. For every bit of footage and info that looks great and gets people hyped up, there are just as many crappy demo's, crappy boy band designs and other discouraging aspects to diminish that hype back to where it started. It could go either way at this moment.

It's like Sqeenix had a meeting after FF13 where they discussed how to improve on the popular Gran Pulse level.

"Add in camping!"

"Cooking!  Everyone loves cooking"

"There is a camping chair mini game"

"Make them travel faster in a car"

"No a flying car!"

"That you need to fix regularly"

"And if you don't they need to push it around!"

"And they've all got pets"

"Sexy pets"

"That need grooming!"

"Status buffs are created by giving the characters different haircuts"

"Enemies have different haircuts too"

All the ideas got implemented.

But didn't FF15 start out as a straight sequel to FF13, then got shoehorned into its own narrative?

I think there's something to be said about the volume of criticism aimed at the only game that still has Japanese character design and not gruff middle aged guys with beards, which no one ever complains about. It's like people want to squeeze all the variety out of that part of the industry for the most focus tested thing, like they've grown more intolerant of different artstyles over time.

Nah, it was designed as a side franchise, so you'd have a mainline FF series and then a Versus FF series. Mainly because Nomura fucking loves making these massive sprawling franchises with prequels and side stories like with Kingdom Hearts even though fans aren't that keen and would just like a central trilogy or something. Then it all got scrapped because it was going nowhere and the FF13 sequels were unpopular.

This games downfall is character design ,combat design, voice acting and 2 bad demos plus one that was ok (not played it that much ,the new one)

3 demos for a game...:that's a first.

I normally love anime style stuff but these character designs put me right off.

The voice acting in a game that looks better than most games in history is a real let down. It needs to be film quality not tv anime quality.

The combat has some rather big issues I have little faith in being able to Avoid.

That said I'm excited to see the pretty stuff. I just think it's real hard to tell a ridiculous Japanese anime story in this kind of fidelity. It didn't work for the movies either.

This is nonsense. FFXV is in no way the only game currently out there with Japanese character design. And it's not being criticised for having Japanese character design , but for having bad character design. Atlus and Falcom consistently put out games with great Japanese character design, so there's absolutely no excuse for Squeenix' off-brand Smap.

I've got quite fond of the design now. Reminds me very much of FFVIII, and that was always my fave Final Fantasy before XII came out, so that part of it is once again all good.

I should say that I've literally gone from not paying any attention to the game to drowning in everything about it over the last week, so I've probably become slightly over-hyped ;)
