Recommended Posts

Finally got around to setting up an RSS reader on my phone, and I've started to start reading a lot of blogs recently. I'm looking for some recommendations for some food blogs, particularly ones that are not just recipe sites, but ones that actually talk about food.

Any good ones you can recommend?

I currently read, and can recommend the following:

Pizza in Hong Kong: http://bestpizzainhongkong.blogspot.com/

Junk food mecca: http://thisiswhyyourehuge.com/

BBC Food blog: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/food/

Food Stuff Finds - Info on new snacks and products etc: http://foodstufffinds.blogspot.com/

Kebab and curry reviews in Manchester: http://flavoursofmanchester.blogspot.com/

Nice one Shiftcrack, just what I need. More temptation.

But seriously, thanks for these, I haven't seen most of these blogs. It strikes me as the sort of thread I only just realise we've needed in this folder for years.

Not a blog, so feel free to tell me to shut up, but I always enjoy Jay Rayner's restaurant reviews on the Guardian website:

Rayner gets a vote from me also, as do Guardian writers Felicty Cloake, Oliver Thring, and Tim Hayward:

Shameless self promotion of sig link.

I must say, that's one of the best looking food blogs I've seen in a long time, both design and photography. Love that take on tuna Nicoise.

A couple of my friends run this foody blog: The Critical Couple

I read this quite regularly. Did you go to any of their meals at their home where they invited over chefs to cook for them?

Shameless self promotion of sig link.

Rich mainly does short posts with recipes and great food photography, I do (occasional) op-ed pieces.

Liking the look of your dirty rice recipe, might have to try that.

So here are some of my favourites:

LA based food blogger who constantly goes to really expensive restaurants, one of the best food blogs for fine-dining in America. He also has a brilliant habit of ordering every single item on the menu in cheaper establishments.

http://londoneater.com/

One of the best and most well-known London food blogs, well photographed and good recommendations. Although, Kang, its author doesn't seem to realise that 'a lot' is two words.

Another London food blog, I've found lots of good recommendations in here. Most recently Red Sea which is an African restaurant near Westfield shopping centre. Makes a nice change from all the chain restaurants inside.

Beautiful photography, every shot is stunning. (She takes her photos with a Canon 5D)

Great travel/food blog across Asia

http://www.nordicnibbler.com/

Based in Oslo, but has reviews of nice restaurants all over the world. Its two newest posts are of Alinea and Next, probably the two restaurants I want to eat at most in the world.

I haven't. They've told me all about those dinners though. on the plus side, they make some delicious dinners when I go over. (If we had a "Om nom nom" emoticon, I'd be using it right about NOW)

Small world though!

I read a variety of UK based food blogs, don't bookmark them as such, rather click links from one to another, one thing has started ti irritate me though. The number of restaurant / food product reviews that have eaten 'as a guest of'' the establishment they're reviewing, or have been sent products for free. Seems restaurants / PR people see it as cheap advertising, but i don't like it.

This Is Why You're Fat is astounding - some of the stuff on there is delightfully silly, but then I saw this: "Pizza Bagel"

Reminds me of some of the stuff capone_adam once posted in the "Take a pic of your dinner!" thread... unfortunately they're not there any more, but boasted such delicacies as "Anchovi/broccoli/chilli pasta with Kinder Egg plateu of green beans" and "Honey Glazed Pork Kebabs with Rice and Mars Bar"
