Yeah, we controlled quite a lot of the continent i was on aswell so i thought i'd find some where but couldn't see any. It's possible i completely missed them mind; i was trying to take everything in at once, trying to survive and learn at the same time and doing neither particulalry well

I have had a couple of great sessions where me and one or two friends have spent a while creeping round behind enemy lines capping outlying bases and getting in fire fights with similar wee groups of enemies. It's not all zerg, all the time :) Not sure what is going on with the spawn timer thing you mentioned though, I haven't encountered that at all.

Basically, your long spawn timer was for a squad spawn beacon, which is something anyone in a squad can purchase (it costs in-game resources, iirc, not actually moneys) and then drop which allow each of their squad members to spawn at it once every 20 minutes.

A normal spawn point timer is always less than a minute, I believe. Usually sub 5 seconds.

Managed to fix my crashing and put quite a few hours in over the weekend and i'm enjoying it immensley.Mainly been playing Infiltrator and Heavy Assault, depending on the situation.

I've found it quite hard to distinguish friend from foe, i'm playing Terran Republic so the othersides look blue/purple and have a red arrow above them and my side are red with a blue arrow above them. I know it should sound easy to identify people but its just really a headfuck when your too close to someone to see the arrow or too far for it to show up. God knows what'll happen if i play the other side.

Bought a new rifle for the Infiltrator tho i think i'll stick with the standard issue for now, unless i kill them outright (headshot or them on low health) it doesn't reload straight away, you have to come out of sights, bolt action reload and then back into sights, so i have to aim my shot again by which time they've run away or hidden. I'm somewhat apprehensive about buying anymore weapons as the high expense, for what may be not much of a difference, is off putting. Anyone know of any decent 'guides' for each of the classes?

I have been part of 4 or 5 failed assaults on The Crown in Indar, it's so much fun trying to take it.

Yesterday after the front line had moved very close to out Vanu warp gate I snuck into the Crown to look around inside and hack all the terminals/turrets before logging out. Later in the evening I logged back in and the Vanu had taken the Crown as an island of purple surrounded by Red and Blue (I like to imagine my earlier stealthy actions had helped, but probably not) It's so much fun to defend too. I spent the best part of 3 hours repairing turrets, killing infiltrators, and trying to get out behind the enemy lines to take back some of the surrounding bases.

Is anyone here a premium member?

Been playing this loads but still haven't got round to joining an Outfit and i rarely join a squad so things can get a little frustrating.

Playing Lone Wolf is doable but only when you go along with the crowd (ironically) and there seems to be little to no incentive to defend a base once you've taken it. I mean, i know you get points for defending but you have to recap it before the opposition fully take over which, chances are, if they've got to that point, people already have moved onto the next zerg target. And nothing's more annoying than deploying into a base just about to be overrun. :(

Today has seen the meat grinder that is The Crown/Zuvaran Amp/Allatum Bio labs. We were trying to take the Crown for way over a couple of hours, i logged, had some tea, came back and we were pretty much in the same position. Its all fun tho, i tend to take the role of Sniper/Counter-Sniping with some success if i do say so myself. I've managed to get my kill/death ratio above 1:1, mainly down to a few good sessions on overwatch and cleaning the floor of dirty Vanu and Conglomerate scum :D

I also caved in yeserday and bought some station cash since it was on for triple amounts. Bought some camo so i look a bit snazzier on peoples 'death page' but have resisted buying any weapons as i'm not wholly sure i'm cool with that. Nearly bought a surface-to-air launcher for my Heavy tho after the base i was in was getting pounded by aircraft and we had no air support ourselves.

Anyone playing this?

I stopped a while back during the beta for a few reasons - firstly, Guild Wars 2 was released, second, being a beta it was quite buggy and I didn't want to tarnish the experience, and third I was having router problems making twitch online games unplayable.

Decided to update my client and have a go this weekend, and had great fun. Many of the smaller bugs I encountered in the beta have been fixed (mainly the interface stuff, as elements were broken in the beta which you kinda expect). Even the performance is better; I used to encounter some slowdown in big firefights which now seems to have vanished.

Went back to my character "Asura" on the Euro server, New Conglomerate side. If anyone else wants to play, we'll see if we can meet up - maybe arrange a forum "night of the week" or something. It's free-to-play so if you like FPS and have a PC that can run it, I really recommend giving it a go. Even if you don't get into it long term, the scale of the battles really needs to be seen as there's nothing like it.

I have *just* started playing this, and am appalled that you lot aren't already getting together for explodo-japery on a regular basis. Count me in for whatever comes together. :D

It requires quite high system specs, so I imagine that's excluded a fair people who would have otherwise liked it.

I played beta on an i5 laptop with some weedy 4200 GPU. Obviously, I had the detail dialed down to the level of a Spectrum game, but is it really that hard on machines?

Nvidia though, right? I think it's quite harsh on ATI owners with older cards.

Aye, nvidia, but a fairly lousy mobile one. I mean, fair play, it looked like an old porn mpeg at the resolution and detail level I had it at, but needs must I guess. I'm looking forward to playing eventually, anyway. Had bags of fun in beta.

Cool, I will do next time I'm online. You should notice (as I did) that there are many improvements. One of the major ones is that the Flash quad bike has become a 2-person vehicle as opposed to the solo transport it was before.

Also, if you mouseover a friendly transport vehicle and hold Q, you'll get a radial menu where one of the options is "request transport". If you hit it, your character will yell "I need a ride!" and will show up on the driver's screen. You can do it from pretty far away too; it's a huge improvement.

Jesus time flies while playing this doesn't it? Still have no idea what I'm doing mind you but at least I'm having fun watching people do awesome things while I keep dying every 20 seconds.

As far as 'dem grafx' go... I have everything turned up to 11 and it looks amazing! Even with PhysX enabled it will run smooth, most of the time. Can't believe it loads as fast as it does either.

VN1X, to help with the dying thing, go into the cert screen for your favourite class and take all of the certs that cost a small number of cert points - there are many that cost 1 point. They're important as that first point unlocks the ability or equipment, and the subsequent points merely make it better. Having all those things unlocked makes a big difference; try them out one-at-a-time.

Also, at the warpgate, there's a terminal which allows you to switch continents - if you use it, there's a button called "VR Training". This teleports you to an area where you have a shooting range full of motionless holographic enemy targets, as well as being able to equip any weapon/equipment and spawn any vehicle. You also can't damage your team-mates there. Play around with a few of the weapons to get a feel for your starting kit.

Mid-game I switched to a different continent simply by clicking "Instant Action". What's up with that? There wasn't even anyone playing there!

The "instant action" button is something of a mystery, in that it's designed to be unpredictable where you go (to stop people abusing it). Sometimes it'll send you exactly where you need to go, and sometimes it'll send you the arse end of nowhere. Usually you'll be in a place where something has happened in the last few minutes, so you might arrive in the middle or near a large battle, or you might arrive in a ghost-town where a large battle has finished and the playerbase has moved on. There's no way to know.

Could be, I'm on a Core 2 Duo with a reasonable ATI, and Medium is a bit choppy when I'm looping the loop and crashing into a mountain...

Be my fwend, anyone?: frumious (TR) :)

Nope, NC for the win

It's weird, but I just can't seem to play as the other two sides. I think it's because in the original they were more different, and had their own forum sections on the SOE forums to cultivate a bit of a rivalry. You couldn't switch sides in the original willy-nilly - you had to wait 24 hours after playing a character if you wanted to play as one from another empire. Consequently I find playing as anyone but the NC a bit of a betrayal

Lol Asura you fanny :)

I'm happy to play any faction. If I ever have a chance. Bioshock has just come out, plus I'm still hitting DmC hard, and I have two kids. Bleh.

Maybe one day though!

Can you be in more than one outfit? Do the outfits work cross faction? I'd guess not.. How about a friends list, is that foxed to at least work cross faction now?

Put around 220+ hrs into this and my interest is waning a somewhat, mainly due to how nothing actually matters.

I admit i don't run with an Outfit and if there's anyone in a TR Outfit who play Cobalt give us a shout, but still, there's very little consequences to much of what happens. TR have the shitty warpgate on Indar and with a population imbalance things can get quite demoralising.

With hindsight i think its a mistake to allow people to have characters of opposing factions on the same server. We can get some wild population swings on Cobalt and some static imbalances aswell which pretty much spoil things. The best times i've had were when populations were evenly balanced.

edit: quick check of my sats through PSU put my play time at 382 hrs :S

Whilst I follow your general line of reasoning, I kinda see that as saying "I enjoyed this game enough to play it for nearly 400 hours before getting bored". :)

TR have the shitty warpgate on Indar and with a population imbalance things can get quite demoralising.

They're going to rotate the warpgates in future in each patch, to keep things a bit more fresh.

I'm basically not bothered either way, I picked TR because PC Gamer mentioned their Outfit and they're Terran (because of the colour, mainly! :D). I've only just started, if enough Rllmuk people are playing together or even making an outfit I'll happily re-roll!
