Bosingwa just signed. We've got such an attacking team right now with proper wingers and overlapping full-backs on both sides, Faurlin and Samba in the middle feeding Taarabt, and Cisse up top doing the damage. It seems inevitable this is going to be the best football we've witnessed since 92-93. I cannot wait.

...seemingly at the expense of any sort of defence. Cannot believe it's somehow resulted in a worse start than last season.

Sigh.

Yeah I'm never looking forward to anything in football ever again. From top to bottom we just had far too many players caught way out of position too many times.

Only redeeming thing to say is that with Faurlin coming back soon the midfield can surely never be that much of a shambles again.

Is anyone else worried that we're heading for financial meltdown again?

Not at all. I think the foundation is there. Tony Fernandes isn't an idiot, nor is Bahtia. Financially I think they both know what they are doing.

The premiership is worth £40million a year more than the Championship at a minimum. It's a risk to spend, but the second season is where clubs that don't invest get found out.

We definitely need to offload some dead wood though.

Yeah it's only the fact we have owners who haven't leveraged debt onto the club, and are actual businessmen rather than weirdos who just want a play-thing for a while that I'm not more worried. With all the TV money it would be more of a risk to go down and have to come back up again than sign a few guys with experience on 60k a week for the next few years... No one's worried about going down again are they?

The journey to the bottom of the money pit continues...

Premier League side QPR open talks to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar, according to Press Association Sport. The Brazil international, 32, who helped the Italian giants win the Champions League in 2010, has been allowed to speak to other clubs about a move away from the San Siro.

Poor Robert Green. Or Robert Green is poor. Either way, someone take Paddy Kenny's mobile away from him before he hears about it...

So another poor performance. Diakite and Park can't play in a 4-4-2. I really hope Mark Hughes realises this. Faurlin is of course the answer, and h can't come back soon enough (apparently he did 60 minutes against Millwall on Friday for our elite youth development squad, or whatever they're called), and when he finally means a change to 4-3-3. Cisse can't play upfront on his own, so he'll either have to be shunted out to the wing or benched. That leaves Zamora as the only guy that can play CF. It's ridiculous that having signed so many players there's still two spots in the first 11 we have absolutely no cover for.

I agree with all of the above. The squad still looks unbalanced, which is understandable, given the focus on attacking players, but not really forgivable. I don't understand why he's trying to play 4-4-2 again. And 1 point from the first two games is a pretty poor haul. A change to 3 in the middle and bringing in some quality in defence are both needed.

QPR seem to be signing players on various different playing tiers very quickly. We need a striker? Get me ROB HULSE. He's shit. Get me JAY BOTHROYD. He's shit. Get me DIJIBRIL CISSE, He's mentally ill. Get me Andrew Johnson. Why? Fuck know who's next.

QPR's squad is so unbalanced. You guys need a clear out, then a proper striker and a defender who isn't Anton Ferdinand.

To be fair we've had a massive clear out. And now with Faurlin back from injury, Granero and M'bia signed I'm not sure the squad is at all unbalanced - we've basically got two decent players for every position (plus a few more wingers lol) to make the 25 man squad. Rob Hulse is the only guy truly surplus to requirements, and he's only got a year left on his contract so no big woop.

How can we afford it? Err... I guess we hope the new TV deal Mittal and Fernandes' combined fortunes, and sales of Park Ji-Sung shirts cover it. On the plus side they are also looking at a new training ground, stadium, scouting network and all that good stuff too. Suggests they're around for the long haul at least. But I am a bit worried, yeah... There's no way we're breaking even any time soon.

  • 2 weeks later...

I didn't expect anything out of that, so very happy with a point and a decent performance. Faurlin and Granero were especially good in the middle - more than standing up to Mikel, Lampard and Hazard. Cesar also had a very good debut, you could see the defence playing with far more confidence with him in goal. In fact the whole team looked far more coherent than in previous performances, which is both impressive and encouraging. Possibly setting myself up for a fall here, but I think we all know that now they're all together, with Faurlin and Granero the final pieces of the jigsaw, this group of players are very decent, and just need a few winnable games on the bounce before we start climbing up the table.

...Anyone know what's going on with Hoilett?

Wow, just wow. What a fucking match! Everyone played exceptionally well other than Zamora, who seemed slugish and unaware of his surroundings. Should have been 2-0 the the R's. Cesar is a monster of a keeper. Defence was brilliant. Just so amazed at that performance.

I saw Hoilett warming up, but dunno why he weren't played.

Apparently Hughes likes SWP more for his off the ball work than Taarabt and Hoilett. After the first match I'm inclined to agree.

Essential reading on how we won the midfield battle against Chelsea. Early days but against the league champions, and european champions, Faurlin and Granero are looking even better than I thought they would:

Except for the bit about Kyle Walker not being good at defending. That's just a stereotype because he's so good going forward; I'm still slightly in love with him from his time with us.

So given the new signings etc, whats our best formation/starting XI? Assuming everyone is fit

I still want to see Faurlin and Diakte in the middle as holding midfielders

Cisse

Taraabt Granero Park

Faurlin Diakate

Fabio Ferdinand Nelson Bosingwa

Cesar

Maybe Zamora would be better than Cisse in a single striker role - But I love CIsse so he has to play. I can't not put Taraabt in the side. There's no room for Hoillet in the side at the moment and I havent seen enough of M'Bia to say he should be in defence
