I thought we did well really. The couple of good cut backs in the first half and sturridge's chances in the second were more than holland were offering. They were clearly a better technical team, but we did ok given the relative inexperience of the team.

Utterly stupid putting it in the middle of two full schedule weekends - obviously banging heads can't be accounted for, but RVP, Gerrard, Sturridge all going off for tweaks spoiled it really. On the whole though, I think it was pretty good. Parker was an excellent English captain - diving in front of the ball like A Hero and then passing it to the opposition two minutes later like A Spacker. But I'll take the result and I liked the way the team was lined up. I think we need someone rougher if we're having two holding midfielders, Barry and Parker are a bit too similar...But it basically worked.

I don't really remember much of Parker giving it away, except when he tripped over the ball.

What did need to stop was those utterly pointless cross-field balls from centre. Dropped significantly when Gerrard came off but I noticed their return when Milner came on.

In fairy land where Scholes comes out of retirement I think he'd be a good swap for Gerrard or Barry. He'd provide your roughness Rev (and bookings).

Gerrard was atrocious. Doesn't give a shit and then swans off after 30 mins. And some want this bloke to be captain.

It was a decent performance overall. Young wasn't really convincing but then again having him in the centre was never going to work. Took his goal well but that was it. Centre backs were ok but mess up in communication for the Robben goal was pretty bad.

Reading some of the press reports of the game is bewildering. They all seem to have a massive downer for Pearce, the way we played and even Parker. Wtf did they expect, us to trounce a very good, established Holland side!?

I thought we were decent enough. We're not going to win the euros but we played some decent stuff at times. The mentality of our press disgusts me.

Just seen the highlights.

Smalling was badly mugged off for that first goal, but Christ why did ITV even bother showing the massive gash on his head - and Huntelaar with a mouth full of grass?

The ITV coverage really is hateful as an all round package. It was just a relief that these highlights don't feature bum face.

No idea what to make of that overall. Certain friendly, doesn't matter.

Megson for England then?

Fuck me, what's going on with football these days. I'm completely disillusioned now.

It's fucking stupid. There are plenty of things about Megson to not like - he doesn't play great football and is a bit of a dick. They were obvious before he was hired so it can't be those. Since he's been here, the away form has been rubbish and the home form pretty good. We had a dodgy patch and firing him after the Chesterfield game would have been impulsive, but at least understandable. But one way to get out of a rut is to win your local derby, which he did, then take that new morale boost forward. If that happens and the loss puts United off their stride automatic promotion is vaguely possible, but that seems a bit unlikely. I think Megson would have been fairly good manager to get us through the play-offs.

I haven't got a clue who we're going to get in, but getting them to change the way Megson has us set up entirely and win promotion in 13 games seems basically impossible. If we're going to get someone in who plays like Megson got us playing...What's the point?

Promotion Expert Dave Jones might be an improvement, maybe, but at this point I don't see a benefit of finding out. At this point for me, either Megson gets us promotion, or he doesn't. Then make changes at the end of the season if they're needed.

So yeah, fucking stupid.

It isn't a footballing decision, clearly. Megson has fallen out with Milan and/or Aldridge and this is the upshot. You could tell in his post-match interview on Sunday that Gary knew he was a goner regardless.

Clearly things weren't right, but from what Mandaric has been saying about being fed up I don't think he'd want to mess around with firing and hiring just for the sake of a falling out if he thought we would/could be going up. Maybe it was just too bad, but that's fairly pathetic.

Hiring Dave Jones for his play-off experience definitely can't go wrong though.

I had to put up with Gary Megson at Nottingham Forest, where he was beyond atrocious. Still, guiding a distinctly average looking Sheffield Wednesday squad to 3rd with only a handful of games left doesn't warrant a sacking. Football is well bonkers.

In other football news, I watched a reasonably under-strength USA beat a reasonably strong Italy 1-0. You know what? Clint Dempsey is a bloody good player. If he wasn't American, you can bet he'd be playing for someone a lot higher up the table than Fulham. I know Arsenal enquired about him in January, but he's got a great a cracking mix of strength and desire, along with superb technique, plenty of tricks and a knack for goal. That's what you need, that is. Get that man to Man Utd, or summat.

Pepe Reina in race row over tv advert

Campaign group Operation Black Vote has complained to Spanish insurance firm Groupama Seguros about an advert in Spain featuring the goalkeeper.

They claim it "depicts black people in a jungle scenario as stupid, backward, animalistic homosexuals."

OBV say the advert has been pulled from Spanish TV since their complaint.

The advert played on Reina's surname, which means "queen" and shows the Spain international being introduced to a tribal chief who chooses him as his partner.
