I was surprised that Suarez and Bellamy didn't take one. That said, Downing and Johnson both scored good'uns.

Suarez isnt the best taker, and I was also surprised Bellamy didn't take one. Adam has been abysmal at them since he joined us (any set piece really). I didn't expect either Downing or Johnson to score them.

The commentary on the BBC was WELL rubbish.

Mowbray is alright. Better than Tyldesly - then back to the studio for bumface Childs? Stuff nightmares are made of.

I thought Cardiff's second miss was the worst of the lot. Really tame and not even on target. A shame it was decided by the poor attempts rather than good keeping.

At least it hit the woodwork :P

The BBC coverage as a whole was rubbish, Sky do a better job its shameful to say but bodes well for F1 as while the beeb did that amazingly you can only assume Sky will copy the good bits and throw some money at it!

Well done Liverpool, bit of silverware to cover up a horrible couple of seasons.

Gerrard just can't seem to score penalties in shoot outs can he. Outstanding all the other times but never in these situation it seems.

Cardiff did great but I'm well happy we've won it even if we did make it very hard for ourselves.

"Cup win the first of many" says Kenny.

Yes, so long as you always get a championship team in the final and they always utterly implode when it gets to penalties.

And all those Championship teams we beat on the way to Wembley too, yeah?

Exactly this. People seem to forget that we knocked out 3 Premiership teams to get there so wasn't exactly an "easy route"

"Cup win is the first of many", maybe that's true, but if they're just happy picking up the Afterthought Trophies that are England's domestic knockout competitions, Liverpool will have little to shout about.

I hardly class the FA Cup an afterthought. People may see the Carling Cup as nothing but it's a big something when you've not won anything in 6 years and we treated it like that from the beginning, always playing our stongest available team. I'm sure Utd don't see it as their main target (execpt of course the year that thats all they won) and thats fair with them having CL (now EL) and chasing the league from the start. But it's a cup win non the less and shouldn't be diminished.

But clearly he just meant for the future i.e now were back in Europe and depending on where we finish in the league. Will it be EL or CL.

A trophy is a trophy, you don't get a medal for finishing fourth and while it's nothing to shout about in the grand scheme of things in regards to the Premiership of the Champions League it's still nice to win something. Just look at the flak Arsenal got for losing the final last year.

And we only had one home tie all competition.

Meh, we did the same against Birmingham in 2001 and went on to win the cup treble, beating Arsenal in the final of the FA Cup and Roma, Barca and Porto in the UEFA Cup. Cardiff played well and did themselves proud.

So another shit wembley experience: spent most of the day on the slowest coach in the world and didn't get anywhere near wembley to 2.30. Unfortunatly, I foolishly spent most of the coach journey drinking some bloody awful raspberry vodka and don't remember much about the game.

Until the end of course - remember that all very clearly - elation then devastation. I'd rather we'd got hammered 5-0. Players did brilliantly, but this was worse than Portsmouth or Blackpool. Gutted and now faced with the weird prospect of not wanting us to win many more games this season as I can't cope with having to go there again.

Maybe not, but for the biggest clubs in England, it's rated third behind the CL and the league. Fourth, if you consider Arsene Wenger's words that he'd rather finish fourth than win the trophy.

I think it's lost its prestige for the biggest clubs, and a trophy is really only as valuable as the attitude of the best teams in the competition. Otherwise they'd all be celebrating winning the county senior cups every year by fielding a side of internationals against the local semi-pro team from the Northern Premier League.

It's a shame in the case of the FA Cup, and if you've got all the way to the final of it, or the League Cup, it's nice to go and win it, but it's just not got the draw it once had.

Mind you, for me neither has the Premier League, so I suppose I'm just apathetic. I do love the earlier rounds of the cup more than the latter stages.
