yeah remember there was that line of code you could put in to one of the text files in the installation folder? it enabled stuff like di canio style referee pushes and stuff, which then happened with ridiculous regularity :D

18 points to whoever can remember the word you had to put in!

Wasn't it 'Arse'?

I miss my CM wonder team from a few years back, Champ Man 4 I think. I edited in Dulwich Hamlet to the Conference then marched on to the top of the Premiership.

Joe Mattock was the best Left Back in the World - 15+assists every season.

There was a Brazillian I signed from some regional 3rd Division team I think called... Tomihno? Torina? Something like that. Could play in any attacking role and would get 8+ ratings regardless.

And then there was Moses Ashikodi, the other Millwall reserve striker who wasn't Cherno Samba. 20 pace and tore every defence to shreds. Top scorer for England at the World Cup at the age of 20 when we were still in the Championship (or Division 1 as it was still called then).

Great times.

Edit: I just remembered the Brazilian guy was called Toledo! What a player he was.

Joey Mattock was amazing for me too.

Freddy Guerin was another player you could get cheap and then was amazing all over the pitch.

Ashikodi was a contant presence as I lead the demoted Fiorentina back up the Italian Leagues on their march to becoming eventual Champions League winners. I think I've still got loads of screenshots of that career somewhere.

Anyone remember CM2 (I think) when Neil Lennon at Crewe was, pound-for-pound, one of the best players in the world? 20s all over the place. If you had the cash he and Danny Murphy had to be your first transfer priorities.

During CM 01/02 my humble Orient team climbed to the then first division in successive seasons on the back of Stefan Selakovic who i purchsed for something like £200,000 from IFK Göteborg, he was an absolute monster and used to smash them nearly every game. Unfortunately the big clubs came sniffing around whilst i was challenging for the play off spaces, initially i rejected all advances and put his value to £15m to deter them, but it didn't and he became unsettled by the attention and his form dropped off so i eventually gave in and sold him to Juventus for about £20m. over the next few months my team couldn't keep up their early promise without the star player and i was sacked the same season depsite still having an outside shot at the play offs, I never got to take my Orient into the premiership.... :(

I remember that Tommy Smith was handy in 01/02 also.

Ah I love reminiscing past Football Manager games. I nearly always play as Cambridge United when I'm in it for the 'long term'.

Last game got to 2043. Having reached the point of winning everything most seasons I had begun the slow process of rebuilding my entire team using players produced by the club's own youth set up and largely stopped signing players despite the huge budget. Which must be a great relief to Arsenal as my previous strategy had been signing all their U18s for meaningless compensation amounts. Not played much lately but I had started to get a good core going with a couple central midfielders, a keeper, centreback and a pair of slightly crap strikers.

Only real player to be listed as a legend with the club is Aaron Mooy (who I believe plays for St. Mirren IRL), signed him in my second season while still in the Blue Square Premier on a free. Stayed with the club all the way up to the Premier Division helping us to seal Champions League football in his last season in the game aged 33. According to my overall best eleven he played 445 games and scored 97 goals. Not too shabby for a midfielder.

Never really had a player able to keep up with the pace the club was improving like that before, especially an attacking player, they tend to drop off the fastest. I almost shed a tear when he got his first cap for Australia in his late 20s. So proud.

On one hand i'm a Celtic fan and I remember all the shit we got from the Rangers Fans when we were on the brink, we were lucky to have old tight fisted Fergus McCann. So you can forgive us for taking the piss a fair bit, that being said I feel sorry for the rangers fans such utter utter bullshit from Heralded savior.

Perhaps, although i guess it will be like the other small leagues across Europe.

I can't think of any league where you could say, with almost total certainty and even before a ball has been kicked, that one particular team will win the league. Unfortunately, it seems this will be the case in the SPL going forward. There's only one CL place, so if Celtic can monopolise the top spot in seasons to come, Rangers will fall behind and stay there.

My best ever Champ Man player was a regen called Murt Nadje. The only time I ever CTRL-ALT-DELETED was when I logged on to the bombshell that poor Murt had broken both his legs in a "domestic incident", and was expected to be out for three years.

Fuck that.

This is making me laugh way more than it should. Both legs broken at the same time in a "domestic incident", haha. The only possible explanations would be either run over by a lawnmower or jumping off the roof of his three story house in a perfect pencil dive onto concrete.

Given the drop in Income that Celtic could expect I doubt the bookies will be paying out on day one. Quick look at the leagues ranked closest to Scotland and the Czech league seems mostly dominated by sparta prague.

Maybe this will be the great equalizer in the SPL, remember before Murray started spending to bring Rangers nine in a row they only won 2 out of 10 titles, Celtic won 4 in the same 10 year period between 77/78 and 87/88.

Whilst your probably right Celtic will likely dominate, however without limitless cash reserves I reckon someone else might sneak a league or two over the coming 10 years
