Football Thread 2011/2012

The repeated highlights from every concievable angle of the handshake on Match of the Day last night and the inane squawking from Hansen and Shearer have made me hate football. It's like watching the tit for tat insanity of common people on Jeremy Kyle. Look what you've done you bloody idiots.

I was talking to some friends at the footy yesterday (Exeter 2 v 1 Wednesday :D ) and was saying similar. This season's Premiership should be enthralling as we actually have a league where you don't know who is going to win. Chelsea, Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, and more recently Man City, can all be beaten, by anyone.

However, it's been completely over shadowed by the endless coverage of who is shaking whose hand and that's why I am so disappointed that Daglish and Suarez didn't take yesterday as a chance to draw a fecking line under it and move on.

Any of the big teams wont usually be on first if they score 4 or 5 and there's a big match on elsewhere. I was just surprised they'd put Spurs cruising to a 5-0 win over a match than has dominated football for a week and has more talking points, footballing or not, than pretty much every other match this year.

Perhaps they wanted to focus on some football first for a change.

Just back from watching Exeter beat Sheffield Wednesday - hurray!

(Exeter 2 v 1 Wednesday :D )

THANKYOU.

Not that I'm confident in our ability to capitalise but we were chuffed with your result yesterday. Plus even if we can't go up I'd love to see that prick Megson fail at Massive Wednesday.

Wouldn't mind us stealing your manager if we don't do it this time ;)

If the Barca system is so great and everyone should copy it, why do they look so unbelievably shite whenever Xavi and Iniesta don't start?

I haven't seen much of them this season but even discounting the two best midfielders I've ever seen in my life, I still think Valdes, Pepe Reina, Puyol, Pique, Thiago motta, Thiago Alcantara, Busquets, Fabregas, Thiago, Messi, Pedro and Bojan are a lineup most youth teams would be fairly pleased with.

How are Tottenham on MOTD first?

oh btw:

Is that Benfica? Stunning goal

Firstly the main football story this week has been Capello vs England vs Redknapp vs HMRC.

Secondly 'big teams' doesn't always equal entertainment. Spurs and Newcastle have been infinitely more entertaining than Man United and Liverpool this season. Well, mainly Liverpool.

Amazing, a guy probably makes a racist remark and fails to shake someone's hand, and as a result you now hate an entire fanbase? I realise that your comment is perhaps tongue in cheek, but the whole debacle has been

My remarks were tongue in cheek although I am unimpressed how Liverpool FC have handled this whole thing and I think, sadly, that Liverpools return to Wembley and the game is going to be overshadowed with 2 weeks of the press obsessing about Suarez and racism. Im sure the Sun will have reports of us evil Cardiff fans singing anti English songs or mishearing our songs about Jack Bastards.

Anyhoo - after 5 hours of queuing, I have a Carling Cup final ticket in my hand. Role on a fortnight today.

Speaking as a Newcastle fan, the only entertaining part of yesterday was the argument with the staff in the pub when they left the rugby on the projector after we kicked off.

"I have spoken with the Manager since the game at Old Trafford and I realise I got things wrong.

"I've not only let him down, but also the Club and what it stands for and I'm sorry. I made a mistake and I regret what happened.

"I should have shaken Patrice Evra's hand before the game and I want to apologise for my actions.

"I would like to put this whole issue behind me and concentrate on playing football."

Sense at last from Suarez and LFC. Hopefully it will be the end of it now and we can all concentrate on John Terry instead ;)

Mancini wants Tevez back. How desperate can you get?

"Everyone knows Tevez is a top player and it probably would have been better for us if he'd been here," Mancini said. "Carlos can change a lot of games. If he comes back next week, maybe he can help us in the last three months.

"I don't know if he is in good condition or not. I don't think so because he hasn't played for four months. But Carlos recovers strength very quickly.

"Carlos knows the situation. If he comes back, we talk. Why not? I don't have a problem.

"We've played a lot of games with only one fit striker and against Everton in our last away game, we couldn't make any changes from the bench"

The most expensively assembled squad in history (right?), won't stop Mancini moaning he doesn't have enough players should they fail to win the league.

Dalglish has apologised now. Some would say three months too late, but at least it's done now.

Is it too much to ask now for the PFA to get the players together for a community event or some such this week and finally put this fucking thing to bed?

Depends what's more important. He could be the difference between City winning the league or finishing runners up to their most hated rivals before they kick him out in the summer. But does anyone at the club, not least the supporters, want him taking any of the credit for such a monumental moment in its history?

If I were Mancini, I'd bank on Yaya Toure's return making the difference instead.

Wolves are awful.

I'm always surprised at the animosity between wolves and the baggies though. I'm sure villa park is much closer to the hawthorns than molineux.

I was born in the midlands and they really don't like each other, Blues vs Villa is worse though.

Felt sorry for Mick today, it all went wrong when Bassong went off injured. The players have to take the blame, their defending was woeful.

Villa and Albion are about three miles appart. West Brom actually HATE the villa, but most villa fans don't realise this.

The Wolves - Albion thing is mainly due to the 90s, but traditionally it's been Albion - Villa as the main derby, and I think it's going that way again.

What's the deal with Man City's kit? They've got that awesome Peru-style ribbon strip, and yet they're wearing something which makes it difficult to distinguish them from Villa.

We had that kit for two seasons but our third kit this year is the dark blue (which was our away last season) we're wearing today. Unfortunately none of our strips seem to contrast too well with Villa's home.
