Excellent news for Spurs. This has clearly been a big disruption, anyone who doubts Harry's influence need just look at the two games this season he missed (the deceptively narrow 3-1 over Fulham due to his heart surgery and the uninspired 0-0 at Liverpool). If he has been missing training over this too then that must make an impact.

If not Harry, who else is there?

He has been amazing for Spurs, for the first time since 1987 , we have a team that is challenging for the title and this is with us not really spending a lot of money for the last couple of years and of course we are also playing damn attractive football.

You're third in the table of net spend in the last decade! And when you say 'who else is there' you're obviously discounting every other manager in the world who's been more successful than him. I've no doubt he'll get us playing OK for a bit and we'll roll over some qualifying fodder, but when it comes to the crunch he will get found out tactically like he has his entire career.

I would agree we spent a shit load of money but since Harry took over we have been in profit with our transfer dealings.

Apart from Modric, the team we put out on Monday was made up of players that all cost less than 10 million and most of them cost less than 5.

I also thought we all wanted an English England manager next so once again apart from Harry who else is there.

I don't want an English manager. I really don't see what difference it makes.

I think the manager criteria should be the same as that for players, otherwise it's not an "England" team.

If you're going to have national competition, it should be.

Then we'd never have had such brilliant moments like American Samoa beating Tonga after they brought in an experienced Dutch coach.

Anyway, I think what you propose wouldn't be enforceable. First there's the legal issue - playing for England isn't a job, but managing them is and so EU restrictions would mean you can't discriminate against other EU nationals. But more important than that - how exactly do you enforce the rule? A manager's best work isn't done in the stadium. Are FIFA to start policing every training session, every FA meeting, every thought or action connected with every national side in the world?

You can effect some amount of control over the 11 players who take to the pitch, but what happens outside that is out of your hands, regardless of your best intentions.

'Arry is the last piece of the puzzle. He slots in and the England squad finally achieves its potential and becomes the single most annoying entity in the known universe. The Golden Generation™ and 'arry, together. Fackin' hell.

it will only fulfill its full potential once 'arry and his boys combine with Jedward to create an official 2014 world cup song

Hey did anyone see Gary Neville's England XI on Sky at the weekend? It was actually not completely retarded!

Hart; Walker, Jones, Smalling, Cole; Parker, Wilshere, Gerrard; Sturridge, Rooney, Chamberlain

The only thing I'd contest is Jones at centre-back, because he's looked dodgy as fuck whenever I've seen him there for Man Utd.

Yeah, you bring up a good point. It's a shame really but you're right.

Our centre half options are piss poor when you get down to brass tacks.

I'd take Jagielka over Jones in the first XI. Jones is great in the tackle, and bringing the ball out of defence, but he has a lot to improve with his general positioning.

Carrick ought to at least be in the squad. I'd have him in the first XI, but with Capello's faith in Barry it's not much of a possibility. Carrick passes more accurately, and his positional defending is excellent -- two qualities that are desperately needed considering how we typically struggle to retain possession, and how Barry and Lampard's lax positioning was exploited by Germany.

I couldn't care less about England, much like the current crop of players. Give the managers job to Pearce and let him pick from the lower leagues.

What makes lower league players any better? They are less skillful, less experienced and no better morally than players at the top level. They just aren't under the microscope because nobody cares what they get up to. The reason England players get such a bad rep compared to others is because they are the most famous players in our country, therefore the tabloids will expose anything and everything to give them a bad name.

But yeah I don't care much about our national team. We aren't awful and we aren't great. No success we achieve is exciting because it's expected, and we aren't going to win a tournament while the current Spain team exists.
