I wish Liverpool would just sell him to a club that plays in a league I don't watch.

Celtic wouldn't want him would they?

I think the level of scrutiny he is getting right now via social media and the press might end up making his own mind up and he might just end up quitting the English game altogether - he's quite the pariah until the next uber-rich man-child footballer does something incredibly stupid. It was nicer back in the 80s and early 90s when we only had pantomine villains like Vinnie Jones and the Hand of God to boo and hiss at.

Well by all accounts Scott Parker was (as usual) being the best player on the pitch. If you were watching it from the bench you'd have identified him as the biggest factor in your team not winning the game.

His lovely haircut was also making Andy Carroll look an even bigger tit than usual with that stupid ponytail.

In short he had it coming.

I actually like a panto villain in football. Makes it much better to watch, and I liked how combative and nutso Suarez is. Especially in the World Cup when he handballed to help knock out Ghana. Thats the sort of twirly moustached villainy I want to see in the game. However since he arrived I don't think he has done enough to justify being an arsehole or really played the baddie in a satisfying way. No Cantona thats for sure.

After this and his interview about homosexuality in football I'm warming to Joey Barton. His heart's in the right place, even if he isn't actually very good at football.

The thing about Barton is that he'll say something and you think "hmm, not sure I agree with that" and then another player will have a go at him and unwittingly prove his point.

There was a bit where he said that the problem with the England team is there is a hierarchy in the dressing room that players are supposed to follow and then Lampard comes back with "There isn't, but some of the new players should listen a bit more to the experienced ones who have been in the squad for a few years".

Haven't there been enough examples of people posting stupid stuff like that on Twitter to convince you otherwise yet? People get caught up in it and seem to forget they're publishing to the world, not just the person they're replying to. There seems to have been so many footballers getting caught up in "twitter controversy" I'm a little surprised managers haven't banned them from using it.

I could understand a footballer but this bloke's been in the media for years and years - I thought he'd have a bit more of an understanding around how it works and what can happen if you put your foot in your mouth on the largest of scales.

It's yet another popcorn moment though to add to all the others.

I love football - it's a soap opera for grown men :)

Shocking decision! We wuz robbed, etc. You'd think the ref would err on the side of caution given the temprement of the game.

Still, happy to see no trouble reported, especially after that goal and Nolan's sending off.

It really was a bad decision. Still, cracking result tonight.

How? from the reports he looked as guilty as sin, so they accepted the defence that the money paid into the offshore account was a gift? a victory for expensive lawyers

Hang on he's even got an offshore account in a fake name, it was accepted that this wasn't for tax evasion purposes?

I'm confused how was he innocent?
