Harsh penalty indeed (But no complaint we're back ahead!).

If I was a Man City fan though I'd be fuming about that - doesn't Phil Dowd realise arms can't just dematerialise into thin air - the speed of the shot + rebound off foot = Richards could never have intended to block it with his arm.

Harsh indeed. You can't go around giving pens for that. It's got to be deliberate, and that certainly wasn't.

DOGSO doesn't need to be deliberate, hence why defenders approach attackers with their hands behind their back sometimes. They know that even if the ball gets smacked against their hand, before they could even react, the pen might be given. This is perhaps an extreme case given that it rebounded onto his hand, but hardly outside the realm of possibility. It hit his hand inside the box, so there's always a chance it'll be given. Bad luck though.

It does have to be deliberate. Sure, you don't go sticking your arms wide out to your sides, but the classic of "ball to hand" isn't a foul. The referee obviously has his own interpretation of what that is, but I can't believe anyone would be happy with that penalty being given against their team.

"Ball to hand" is a foul if the arm was up though, because the player chose to invite the possibility of contact. You may say the penalty was unfair, but then I would say your beef is with the laws of the game, not this particular referee's implementation of them.

Of course I would feel gutted if that happened to a United player, but my point is that the referee hasn't done anything wrong. Perhaps he could've exercised some restraint, as it seems most of us would've done in his shoes, but he chose not to.

Here's a pdf of the rules, Liamness. Read them, please (law 12 in particular)

I dunno, they've hardly been spectacular this season and Cardiff have looked fairly solid. They've got a decent chance. Bellamy back at Cardiff and the two Gerrard family members against each other should make interesting side stories. Sort of. Maybe,

As someone pointed out yesterday, Cardiff are a lot less hateable now that Dave Jones isn't in charge.

There was a parsnip on earlier that looks like Joleon Lescott's head.

He was hit by a car when he was a child, SICKO.

What an absolute thronker from Alves. He must try at least 2 of those a game and usually scores at least one a year-helluva goal.

Absolutely knackers me out watching games between these two; reminds me of Nadal vs Federer over the last few years-two people (teams) at the top of their sport just hammering it out consistently with no let up for compassion or reason. Love it.
