Edit: watching ESPN, the free ride Dalgliesh gets compared to Benitez is absolutely ridiculous. He's spent an absolute fortune basically to cement their Europa League status and the worst criticism he comes in for is "Rome wasn't built in a day".

Do you mean from fans? Liverpool fans were pretty much united behind Benitez for a long time, I thought.

Now, Roy Hodgson, on the other hand would have been ripped to pieces after a result like today's!

:eyebrows:

Though it appeared we were very lucky. Wolves should have been miles ahead by half time, and anything that could go wrong for Wolves in the second half did go wrong. More papering over the cracks for us though.

Pretty much exactly right mate, I'm gutted tonight, first time all season I started to think we're on the way down.

Like you said, we were so good first half, Villa couldn't live with us. Second half everything went wrong.

Totally gutted, horrible.

In the first half we had Ciaran Clark playing at left back, which really isnt his position and he was getting absolutely skinned. McLeish was always going to change that, though why he didnt do it sooner was puzzling and the fact that he didnt get more seriously punished for it was somewhat fortunate. The turn around in the second half was tactical, and I guess McLeish outwitted big Mick on that front, though you cant really blame Mick for Karl Henry's red card, which was just fucking daft.

Yeah, the substitution was really effective, I think our players got tired too, they were pressing really high up the pitch constantly first half and should have had four.

That plus the Frimpong injury and red card, plus Keane deciding he loves playing at Molinuex just killed us.

It was heart breaking today, the Wolves team really gave everything.

I just hope we don't lose too many of our squad.

Sadly, I really think we are done for and the worst of it is that we aren't too bad a team. Hey ho!

No I mean from the media. Given the money they've spent since the new owners came in they have to be the biggest underachievers in the league. I remember how people like Souness and Gray used to talk about Benitez as if he was destroying the fabric and tradition of a once proud club he couldn't hope to understand. I wonder what they'd say of Dalgliesh's reign.

And you're right, Liverpool fans continued to sing his name throughout his time at the club... and pretty much all through Roy Hodgson's too.

With a name like that, the second scorer for Crewe was frankly just tempting fate.

Just a shame he didn't get two or three for symmetry's sake.

Only thing I will say is this team has never let us down, there have been many times we all thought we were done for (Stoke away last year for example) only for us to succeed.

We don't lack fight.

What a wonderful league. We drew at home to Crawley today. I have no idea how we got a point. An utter fluke. In other news, Northampton have this individual as their main striker - he's utterly terrifying.

I bought Akinfenwa in FIFA 10 and 11. He was awesome in the lower leagues. He didn't the pace of my other strikers but it didn't matter. Give the ball to him, smash the defenders out of the way, into the box, knock it in.

Monster. Great fun to play.

People I know actually do rate players from Football Manager games as if their CD Rom is reality. It is NOT REAL - it's not REAL IT's UNREAL

i.e. not very real

I feel for McCarthy. Stupidity from two of your players and the injury to Frimpong cost Wolves three points today.

He gets terrible service. But he also has a terrible first touch, falls over a lot and tends to shank what service he does get wide. How much of that is confidence that could be fixed by better service is a matter of debate, but SaintM is right that even Torres is cabale of having a decent game and at least reminding us of the player he used to. To be honest part of me wouldn't be surprised to see Carroll sold at the end of the season, and for him to find his natural level at a mid-table or even Championship club.

You've got to remember though that Benitez was at Liverpool for 5 years and in the last season they were just getting worse and playing some of the most boring football imaginable. Hence the criticism.

I do think Liverpool need a new manger though. He's basically wasted the best part of £70m on Carroll, Henderson and Adam.

Benitez, in his last season, was more or less on damage control. The owners were in maximum wayward mode and causing all sorts of trouble behind the scenes, so Rafa's plans were scuppered quite easily. If I had one main criticism of Benitez it was that (I feel) he wasn't the best for man management, he tried to keep a distance so as not to get too close to players; this however caused problems for the likes of Xabi Alonso, which caused his departure (and I don't blame Alonso for that either, Rafa could've handled it far better).

He's a very tactical manager who likes to know his resources before he acts upon his plans; being initially well supported he helped Liverpool climb to near Premier League winning status, which was brilliant. But obviously it went to pot when he was given the cold shoulder in his last season. The Inter saga hasn't helped him either, having to give up some of their best players and not receive anywhere near the funding the Mourinho got before him.

As for those signings, I have no problem with the Carroll transfer given the Torres thing, or Henderson, since he cost £13 million and looks like he could blossom into something decent some day. Adam I am annoyed by, even if he was the cheapest of the lot, because he's a very limited player who isn't likely to get better. I think Kenny lets his heart rule too much to some extent. I'd like somebody more tactically shrewd...like Rafa :(

Isn't that Comolli's fault though? It is his job to make sure the manager has a squad with enough talent and depth. Dalglish is the coach, not the director of football.
