Newcastle about to buy another player that everyone will want in a year?

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11678/7438911/Toon-swoop-for-Cisse

Newcastle United are set to seal a deal for Freiburg star Papiss Cisse, Sky Sports understands.

The 26-year-old has emerged as one of the most feared strikers in Germany over the past 18 months.

He scored 22 goals last season and has already scored nine this term.

The likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Blackburn and Aston Villa have all been strongly linked whilst Sunderland were understood to be close to sealing a deal last summer.

Anyone know much about him? I've been very impressed with Newcastle's signings recently. Quite a few of the top teams could learn a thing or two.

Him and Ba up front? That's a dangerous duo, make no mistake.

Also, on Wiki, I went from Cisse to Jay Jay Okocha to Tony Yeboah, and saw this little gem:

Yeboah joined English club Leeds United from Eintracht Frankfurt for a £3.4 million price tag at the start of 1995. As well as his wonder-goals of the season against Liverpool and Wimbledon, a hat-trick versus AS Monaco in the UEFA Cup was one of the high points of his Leeds career. Yeboah often cited his good form and prowess while at Leeds was down to his love for Yorkshire Pudding.

Radio 5 Live just read out a story that Balotelli walked into Manchester Uni's Library and paid off everyone's fines.

Surely not?! This one must be a falsehood!? Library fines?! Nahhh.

If not...

Jesus what next? Went into an orphanage and adopted all the babies? Went into Tesco's and bought everyone's shopping? Went into a hospital and healed all the sick and infirm?

I think the "Balotelli just done this...!!!" stories have officially gone too far.

EDIT: We should all go on Twitter and make one up, see if we can get it in the papers.

I could watch those two Yeboah rockets all day. The way it cannons off the bar and then blasts off the ground into the roof of the net is wonder strike 101.

I was at the Liverpool game as a neutral.. Well, as a Leeds hating Huddersfield supporting neutral, but you know. Doubt I'll ever see a better goal live.

One thing that always amazes me whenever I see it is that David James wasn't that far from getting a hand on it, despite the ridiculous velocity it went at and being a fair bit off his line.

Yeah, seen him quite a few times, and he's really impressive. Freiburg are a club of pretty limited resources and the fact that they have been able to pull off some very good results the last couple of seasons is mainly down to Cisse. He's very quick and plays on the shoulder of the centre backs a lot. Pretty good in the air as well. Nohsa can probably say more, I don't watch Freiburg that often.

Surprised Newcastle haven't gone back to France, they were linked heavily with Olivier Giroud from Montpellier who is a great player, as well as Maiga from Sochaux. Both of them would be good signings, but I guess with Montpellier in second they don't really want to lose their best player, and Maiga might have complained his way out of a move.

You have to hand it to Newcastle. It's hard to think of another club in Europe who've had a much better transfer record than them recently.

Yeah, irritated me on MOTD when Shearer basically said "Newcastle bought Tiote and Cabaye for very little, so why can't United do the same?". They have both been unbelievable value for money for Newcastle, only trumped by the transfer of Ba on a free; he seemed to be doing his best to trivialise that.

4th Man arrested in connection with Spying on officials during Olympic stadium bidding process.

Spurs deny it yet it's likely they are guilty. What should they get? I think a demotion or 20 point deduction would be fair.

At least they've got a squeaky clean manager.

Do you realise just how fucking tiresome your posts are in this thread? Just shut the fuck up already.

Even with a 20 point deduction, we will still finish above Liverpool this season. ;)

I'm sure i'm being completely ignorant here but why are people so angry with premier league teams because Darlington are going out of business?

Beats me. If they hadn't have built that massive stadium that they had no hope of ever filling then they'd probably be fine at this point.

They've talked about it fairly openly on the Guardian podcast.

I guess nobody talks about it because he's such a media darling.

It just so happens I took an exam on this very subject yesterday. From my notes...

When reporting restrictions apply (as is the case now with Redknapp) only the following categories of information can by law be reported;

- The name of the court, magistrates' names

- The names, addresses, and occupations of the parties, including the defendant(s), and of witnesses, and the age of defendant(s) and witnesses

- The charge

- The names of any legal representatives

- If proceeding are adjourned, the date and place to which they are adjourned

- Arrangements as to bail (if it was granted or not), if granted, any conditions and surety arrangement - if bail refused, usually the media should not report why, could be prejudicial

- Whether legal aid was granted

- The fact reporting restrictions are in force

For committal hearings, in addition to the above the media can report;

- Any decision of the magistrates to commit any defendant to Crown court for trial

- If the defendant is committed for trial, the charge(s) and the name of the court to which he/she is committed

So basically there's very little that can be said until the trial begins. I heard that bit in the Guardian podcast you're referring to and remember thinking 'ooh, they're going to need to be careful here' but without listening to it again I wouldn't be able to tell you if they've crossed the line. I suspect they'd have been sensible enough not to.

Darlington supporters group saves club, for three games at least:

Guardian Football

Darlington Football Club's immediate future has been dramatically salvaged after a day of drama and high emotion, which began with the club's administrator telling the players the club were finished. Supporters involved in the Darlington Football Club Rescue Group, which has been working ceaselessly on potential deals to save the 129-year-old club, went to the stadium after that news broke, to plead with the administrator to keep the club going. It was reported by the Northern Echo, which sponsors the 25,000-seat arena in which the club play, that the group arrived at the ground with £50,000 in cash.

The administrator, Harvey Madden of Rowlands accountants in Yarm, then agreed to meet the group "at a secret location", where an interim deal to keep the club going through their next three fixtures, beginning with Fleetwood this Saturday, was agreed. The Northern Echo's editor, Peter Barron, was in the meeting, and at 2.30pm, he tweeted from inside the meeting: "Next 3 games go on: administrator has done deal with Darlo rescue group."

The group, formed by seven long-term supporters, including a former chairman of the club, has in the past frantic fortnight been scrabbling to find potential investors to keep the club going in the short term while efforts are made to find a permanent solution to the club's financial problems. Madden, meanwhile, said on his appointment a fortnight ago that there was no money to run the club, after the owner, Raj Singh, pulled out having spent £2m on a failed attempt to win Darlington promotion from the Blue Square Bet Premier. On Monday Madden laid off all the staff including the caretaker manager, Craig Liddle, and the players, signalling the likely liquidation of the club.

At noon, the players had a meeting with Madden, at which he is understood to have told them that no solution had been found and the club would fold. One of the players, James Gray, a striker capped at Northern Ireland Under-21 level, tweeted after that meeting: "Not the news everyone is after! So sorry to all fans ! Clubs gone."

Liddle, who had been called to his own meeting with Madden half an hour earlier, was given the same news. Madden was about to issue a statement announcing the end of the club, formed in 1883, when the fans' rescue group turned up at the arena. An interim deal was then hammered out at a meeting that, according to Barron, was impassioned and even tearful, with Singh in contact via the local Labour MP, Jenny Chapman.

The club and rescue group are now calling for a large crowd to come to Saturday's match, then the group will turn its efforts to building a "community club" for one whose recent ownership by assorted businessmen led so close to extinction.

Maiga failed a medical in December.
