Police seize 29 bags of 'cannabis' in raid on Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand's city centre restaurant Rosso

A man has been arrested after 29 bags of “cannabis” were found stashed at a city centre restaurant owned by Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand.

Shocked diners were interrupted by a daylight raid on Rosso restaurant in Spring Gardens on Friday afternoon.

Police sniffer dogs tracked down the haul of what is understood to be cannabis, packaged in snap-seal bags and hidden away in a staff locker.

There is no suggestion the Manchester United and England defender knew anything about the drug stash.

The restaurant has become a favourite haunt of celebrities and Premier League footballers since opening in 2009, and was the scene of United's 19th league title celebrations in May last year.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman confirmed 29 bags containing what is believed to be cannabis were recovered from the scene and that a man has been arrested in connection with the discovery.

No, it implies I think she looks as good as Martin Keown.

Jo Brand lives near us and my six year old daughter saw her in a local tea shop. She walked straight up to her, turned to us and asked in a loud, clear voice "Is that a man?". Genuinely embarrassing as we're fond of Ms Brands antics and it was a particularly brutal heckle from an infant. To her credit she just smiled sweetly and continued eating cake.

QPR chairman @TonyFernandes on Hughes: "He has a great passion to achieve as a manager...his ambitions match those of the board"

They both have the ambition to move onto a bigger club as soon as possible?

As long as he keeps us up, I couldnt give a monkeys if he moves on in the summer.

I'm just pleased its sorted, and gives him a chance to sign a few players.

The Football Association have rejected Manchester City's appeal against Vincent Kompany's red card in the 3-2 FA Cup defeat by Manchester United.

The defender, 25, will serve a four-match ban immediately for his two-footed tackle on Nani.

EDIT: Carling Cup counts so :

Kompany will miss the Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool and the return tie on 25 January.

He will also be absent from the league trip to Wigan on Monday and the home game against Tottenham on 22 January.

so not the worst time for it. The Spurs game will be a bit of a blow but two league cup games and Wigan away will probably soften the blow.

I just read this headline and fell out of my chair.

Blackburn star set to snub Spurs to join Hughes at QPR

CHRIS Samba will ignore overtures from Spurs and join QPR instead following Mark Hughes’ appointment at Loftus Road today.

The £8million rated Blackburn Rovers defender was already on Rs shopping list, but was understood to be lukewarm about coming to west London under Neil Warnock – sacked on Sunday after a run of poor results.

However, even before Hughes signed a two-and-a-half year deal at Rangers, the new man was putting out feelers in a bid to sign for the second time a player he brought to Rovers in January 2007.

Samba is one of four on Hughes’ immediate list including left back Wayne Bridge, and the French-born centre back has told friends he is excited about linking up with a manager who gave him his break in the English top flight.

A source close to the player said: “If the deal can be done, Chris would prefer Rangers under a manager he knows he can trust and work with, rather than gamble at Spurs where certain players have not flourished as anticipated when they were bought.”

Edit: also couldn't help but laugh at this

Lucky he didn't have an extra game for a frivolous appeal or whatever it is.

They'd have been extremely harsh to do that. I don't think it was a frivolous appeal (it's almost a textbook case to appeal), but am glad that City's best player - against L'pool, on the last two occasions we have played - will be missing for our next two games against each other.
