Football Thread 2011/2012

They should be locked in a room without food or water, armed only with paper and pencil, until they come up with a simple 50p design that communicates the concept of "interfering with play, or interfering with an opponent, or by gaining an advantage by being in that position."

I bet they eat the pencil first.

Skybet suspend betting on lots of things which never happen, Moyes to Villa being a recent example. That said, I think Bent is off. I cant remember whether I said it here, in the Villa thread or on the football forum I post on, but Darren Bent simply does not fit into Alex McLeish's hoofball system. He cant be happy playing in the team at the moment, and it is pretty obvious to anybody who has seen the Villa this year that Bent is basically a passenger in the team and we would probably be more effective without him at the moment. The club clearly isnt big enough for McLeish and Bent, and sadly I think Bent will be the one to go.

I still think QPR are a good outside bet to sigh him by the way. They have the cash, and Bent might want to go back to London.

I think Skybet are one of the bookiee that always suspend betting on these sort of bets overnight.

While I think Bent would do well at Liverpool, it seems odd that they are going to spend mega bucks on third striker in 12 months.

Villa are going to want a resaonable (or maybe unreasonable) profit on what they paid

The 50p has got it right. :quote:

If the midfielder passes to the left triangle, then they become active and are in an offside position.

However, if the midfielder passes to the right triangle then they become active and are not offside, DESPITE the fact that the other triangle is in an offside position.

So, actually, it does demonstrate the active/in-play principles of the newer offside rule.

:coffee:

What fucks me off is that instead of saying "wow, we love a sport that's so significant in this country that it has made it to the back of a coin and look, it explains the offside rule at a basic level. Nice"

They say "OMG WHAT A BUNCH OF IDIOTS WHAT ABOUT THE FIRST AND SECOND PHASES AND ACTIVE PLAY LOL?"

I'm appalled the game hasn't been called off when there being only 4 players on the pitch.

Where as the new FIFA title is basically impenetrable without hours of practice, thus meaning those wishing to try "our sport" are left massively out in the cold...and yet it's called "The best thing ever!"

I assure we have nothing like the cash. I've just got my fingers crossed for Alan Smith and Andy Johnson...

Sit a newcomer down at the controlls with the two button system and see how they get on.

I've done that with about 6 people at work and they all love it.

EDIT: also, what's that got to do with the point I made?

Where did this Lampard to Man Utd story come from?

Regardless of Chelsea wanting to sell why would Frank "Chelsea till I die" Lampard make such a switch. He wouldn't as he's an honourable guy who sticks to his word, so the whole thing is a non starter.

If we follow that logic through then Evra's evidence was untrue, the panel rule differently, and Suarez is not unreliable.

You assume that if they find Evra unreliable, that means they must find Suarez reliable, but thats not true. They could just rule them both unreliable. In theory nothing would have changed as far as Suarez's accounts not matching the video and him changing his accounts during the hearing. Logically all that would happen would be that the result would be different and Suarez branded unreliable as a witness, but with not enough evidence to charge him with racial abuse.

And you didnt answer the question - seeing as he has already been found unreliable as for giving testimony against players, do you think that in future all accounts that he give should be deemed unreliable as you so evidently do think Evras should?

On a different topic, transfer rumour time! One of the guys I work with is Adrian Lewis's brother in law and was at the worlds darts champion in the players area. There were apparently some guys from Stoke City (not players) who he got chatting to and tried to tap them up for some transfer rumours. They said it looked like Kenywe Jones was on his way out and they were in talks with Everton to try and get a deal for having Tim Cahill and Phil Jagielka off them. He also apparently said that Pennant could be on his way after a falling out with the manager. He didnt sat if anyone was in for Jones, it sounded more like they wanted ship him off rather than had someone interested. I can see some of that happening - Jones and Cahill mainly. Jagielka would be an odd one, seeing as we already have Huth, Shawcross, Upson and Woodgate fighting for a central defence spot. Unless they were looking play him in midfield, which he has done. Pennant going I cant see - he's an important player for us, and he's always seemed to have settled in really well with the team. Jones I can see going. He's fallen behind Crouch and Walters for first choice, and I think Pulis prefers Fuller and Jerome as well. Obviously take all this with a pinch of salt, it sounded like everyone was very drunk when this conversation happened.
