When I opened my town for turnip selling yesterday evening I didn't expect this. This is the first person that has ever visited my New Leaf town. He is apparently my twin:

So I now have another villager who has moved in that I don't like. Baabara or something like that. Stuck up Sheep. It's still trying to run Gabi out of town. Now I have 2 to try and get rid of. :hmm:

As Mayor you should have the ability to evict people right away.

On the plus side Blathers suggested a cafe today so hopefully will have that build soon - hopefully find some good turnip prices to shift my 5000 turnips before Sunday. Only 134b being offered today.

I've got a spare Arcade cab you can have.

And while I'm here looking at my storage - I have silver nugget, amethyst, sapphire and ruby gems I'm looking to trade for emerald so I can pimp up my green counter.

Thanks for the metric fuckton of perfect pears, DeKay :)

I have several emerald I'd happily trade for sapphire!

Resetti. Open again.

I came and left you a bunch of goodies (inc. the DJ table) at your Town Square. Had a look around your town and watered the heck out of any plants I saw (also bought you a bunch too). Loved your house! The side room was awesome!

Got Resetti before I could write a msg on your board :(

Yeah I'm in the same boat as Xevious, yesterday I was at the Wolverine premiere, which I think is a relatively good reason for not selling turnips. I was sorely tempted to see if the Empire Leicester Square had Wi-fi but I'm not sure how well it would have gone down.

I'm just going for perfect cherries this week instead as I feel I may have missed the 'nip boat for a week.

Does prof frink still post in here occasionally? I visited someone called Frink and I'm not sure they'd played Animal Crossing before, there were loads and loads of weeds everywhere, unwatered plants and about 10 fossils things to dig up. So I watered, weeded and dug for him, almost without thinking. Hope it wasn't some intentionally grungy look or something...

You mean Baabara the racist sheep?

I also think Wild World's graphical style is still the best.

Learned a good tip from Kotaku a bit altered by myself to make the most of catching bugs and making money from the island by chopping trees.

Thought I'd post a guide on here. Most is obvious knowledge but good for those just starting out.

Of course the best bit of advice is Catch big bugs in evening on the island rather than the day.

1. Only catch bugs and fish worth more than 1000b. Bug wise I catch the big stags and beetles on tree/ palm trunks except Miyama stag and Horned Dinastid as they are worth the least of the stags and can take valuable space more pricey bugs can be put in. Watch out for Scarabs (looks like fruit beetle only gold) and jewel beetles, they are worth more than the 2000b. Scare away lesser beetles, better will spawn quicker.

As for fish I try and to catch the biggest (finned big fish/ sharks, Moray eels, Napoleon fish, Blue Marlin etc). Used to try with the medium costly ones too (eg. Barred knifejaw, red snappers, butterfly, surgeon ) but too many of them end up being puffer fish and squid. Aim just for big and you will be rewarded, and frustrated with large Seabass!

2. Chop down most of your tree's and palms. Cut down all palms except one on each side of the island, to the west and east not north or south as approaching near the water can be a pain and from above is more likely to scare them away. Also cut all but 2 tree's on the grassy area apart from each other. I ended up having 2 trees at the top corners of the grassy area and 2 palms on the lower west and east of the beaches not too near the water so it's possible to only see one at a time and plenty of sneak space. Why lack of tree's? Only a couple of trunk grabbing beetles will be present at one time so it limit's your search and loads of creeping space.

Here is a badly drawn diagram of what my island now looks like.

acisland.jpg

3. Get rid of bushes and Flowers? Get rid of bushes and plant some White Flowers instead! The Kotaku article suggests getting rid of all bushes and plants as they bring butterflies which don't bring in as much as beetles.

I disagree. Bushes can go but some butterflies are worth more than 2000b such as the Birdwing, Agrias and Emperor which are worth more than the stags I avoid that I mentioned earlier. That and they don't scare away as suddenly as beetles.

I plant 3-4 WHITE flowers picked up from tours, they do the job bringing in butterflies but also encourage the camouflaged Orchid Mantis which fetch nearly 2000b more than regular mantis.

4. Never approach from behind the tree for trunk beetles. It is possible to catch them this way but more likely to scare bugs off. Using the tree-cutting/ arranging method I mentioned earlier, you can create plenty of space so you can be miles away from the bug and clearly see it than suddenly scaring it. Hold down A when holding the net to creep but this may still be too quick for the likes of a Hercules so walk very, very slowly.

5. Watch trunk beetles movements. When creeping up on bugs on trunks, especially the likes of the Hercules, I always stop when they stop moving and only continue to move when they do. Don't know if this 100% guarantees success (certainly not from behind the tree) but I've always found it works.

6. When approaching from the front of the tree, watch your shoulders for correct distance. When I first started playing this game the way the world rolls made guessing the correct distance between me and bug a bit unpredictable as I find sometimes being right up against the tree scares them off or misses. If you approach from the front of the tree, when you see the bottom of the trunk of the tree between your head and shoulders (basically the tree is 'on' your shoulders), that is within reach of the bug.

I have visited the island two evenings now since clearing my trees and I have made at least 2-3 times as much I usually do.

Some people spend ages waiting and finding exact things to catch like the rarest bugs or sharks. I catch what I can using the rules above and in the same time waiting around for the best I can fill my basket and be back again for more. With the lack of trees I mainly catch bugs but the fact I had a lot of palms before and walking about with ease to let bugs respawn, I'm seeing fins and bigger fish more easily than before.

Hope it helps.

I think you're better off getting rid of all flowers and non-Palm trees. The lowest value bug on a palm tree is still 6000 bells, and most of them are 8000+. By keeping the trees and flowers around, you're just increasing the number of low value bugs that you have to avoid/scare off. There are a few decent value bugs on regular trees but it's not worth keeping them given the number of low ones you'll also end up with. The orchid mantis is pretty cheap compared to anything on a palm tree, so I don't think it's worth keeping white flowers around for them.

Man a lot of people miss the point of these games I guess, making your town an ugly, industrial wasteland?

That diagram is the island, not the mainland - the island isn't exactly beautiful to start with, it seems perfectly reasonable to optimise it for the valuable bugs.

You look great in that regal look. Or not. If you have it in the bank why not, I wouldn't give up a town project for it mind.

Can people keep an eye out for the Knight helmet in their Able sisters please? I have a hankering for some Dark Souls cosplay and have the Solaire pattern from qrcrossing.com.
