A bit disconcerting actually that they say Watch Dogs is a very ambitious game - yet it's listed for 360 and PS3.

I'm hoping it get announced for next gen. What strikes me is all these rumours and maybes sounds like Nintendo are still having third party issues. It's seems its only going to be good for first party stuff so it's business as usual then.

I suppose it depends if you have an Ipad or similar. Just because microsoft said you own one doesnt mean you necessarily do. I suppose for 280 quid you could probably buy one though.

Well I would imagine most people have a combination of either an iPad,Pod,Phone or Android phone, tablet or even the MS related ones.

It's a huge potential market their reaching out to on items most people own already. The fact I could use this stuff on my iPad for instance with no extra cost to me just a free download is exciting.

Watch Dogs is clearly a WiiU exclusive. What they've done is very clever. They're shown bits of the game and because they think it's on the Xbox and Ps3 the hardcore have massive erections. You know? If everybody knew it was for the WiiU you'd be here rubbishing it. They mention all this two screen stuff and the erections get bigger. Couple of months you're going to get the rug pulled from under you.

Nintendo are going to be all "As if an Xbox 360 could do that?" and you would HAVE to buy a WiiU.

It's very clever marketing. Because as I say if they'd shown the exact same stuff just as a WiiU exclusive most of you would be going, with your little ratty voices 'sounds a bit shit.'

Shopto have got black and white Wii U's up for preorder. £280.

Yeah, good luck selling a casual-centric gaming device at that price. That's a wild overestimation by ShopTo.

I've no doubt Nintendo know that asking for more than £200 for Wii-U would be suicide. The hubris and egg-on-the-face of the 3DS launch should have taught a lesson or two.

Don't be a silly billy. Go back and read the original Wii thread. Launching that one at more than £130 was deemed suicide by the 'brains' of the forum and then the fucking thing was sold out for three years. £280 sounds about okay to me.

Yeah, but Wii was lightning in a bottle. As 3DS showed, you don't launch a successor without anything like te same sort of hook at a much higher price and have the same casual market rushing back. I might pay it because I'm weak and blew a wad on 3DS and Vita at launch, but as was blindingly obvious pre-launch with those systems, it won't tear up any trees at such a price.

No one is going to be interested in a Nintedo console with a dearth of compelling software when they can get most of the games on a console they already own. You have stuff like Mario which will sell extremely well to an established audience, but it isn't going to have millions of people who aren't really gamers rushing out to spend £300 on.

£ 275 was/is my bet, so £280 could very well be the final price.

Bit steep if you ask me, so, not a "day-one" for me. £ 250 or less would make it more desirable imo.

The 3ds was a stupid price. It's a toy for kids. The WiiU is a mega-stonking home entertainment device. Now you're right, without WiiSports they've got a harder sell but trust Nintendo to pull a rabbit out of the bag.

Are you poor?

I bought a Kayak for £600. I'm not even interested in kayaking. And yet you guys are supposed to be massive gamers and yet you baulk at £300 for the hot new product. It's crazy.

I think you overstate its lustre. The majority of Wii owners haven't touched the thing in years. They're not going to rush back without an incredible hook, and given its largely rehashed early software & the fact that it's distantly removed from what could be referred to as the 'cutting edge’ it's not going to convince gamers to migrate from PS3 / 360.

I don't consider myself a massive gamer (anymore). You're right, some years ago, I would've ordered it without question, but now I don't feel the need to splash my cash on the first new console that comes along anymore.

You know the majority of Wii owners?

True, but would you buy the new, more expensive Foreman Grill?

EDIT: How have you only used it twice as well, I thought you were Paleo-core man.

I don't even know where it is. This was years ago. But I'm not now wary of George Foreman products.

I think a lot of the Wii owners who haven't used their Wiis since Wii Sports will look back fondly on that super fun time and, you know, possibly want to recapture it.

The 3DS is totally different. The 3D looked totally rubbish when you tried it in a shop. It is pretty rubbish really. I don't like 3d. And then there were the scare stories about it sending kids cross-eyed. And no even slightly appealing launch games.

I think we're looking at £249. It might not be considered 'cutting edge' but it'll be the most powerful console on the market when it launches and the controller will make it more expensive than Wii. Nintendo have to take a bit of a hit on European prices because the yen's so strong, but I don't think it'll be much either side of that.

Today's Britain - you're poor if you can't afford to chuck £250 on a games console without any consideration / comparison!

Well, I've ordered one from Shopto. My launch Wii has finally given up and I've still got The Last Story and Pandoras Tower I want to play on it, so I may as well upgrade rather than buy another Wii. I reckon it will end up at 250 quid on release, although I will pay the 280. Any more and I'll definitely cancel. I've ordered Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros U, ZombieU and Rayman Legends. I know a couple of those are 'Launch Window' titles, but I'm not that bothered. I guess I'm a sucker for new hardware.

You know, Al Tramone could be on to something - apart from the ratty voices bit:

... or not.

It's not a terribly good piece. The COD argument is tired now because every generation there's always something like that. Last time out it was 'Nintendo needs to have GTA' and then they went and sold more copies of some first party games than COD.

If EA releases Battlefield 3 and Nintendo end up getting Call of Duty, the argument will then shift to 'why should the Xbox players move when all their friends are on Live?'

As disappointing E3 was for us, it'll all be forgotten if this time next year there's a decent lineup. It doesn't really have anything to do with the controller. If they showed loads of games with nice graphics and every single one of them just used the controller as a map screen, who would give a fuck?

It certainly wasn't promising but why prejudge so harshly when the other two console manufacturers can't even bring themselves to do anything other than pay lip service to the gamers Nintendo are apparently showing disdain for?

To be fair, it criticises Sony and MS as well, but the feeling I got was the same as the feeling in the Nintendo conference thread, that Nintendo had more to work with and more to offer, more potential I guess.
