Apparently this is doing the business in the States. It racked in $7.3 million last Wednesday, putting it at a possible $50 million dollar opening weekend which would cover the production cost of the movie quite nicely(marketing costs could be a bigger issue though...).

Anyway, that opening figure would put it in second place to Breaking Dawn. Friday and Saturday could change things of course so you never know. What seems to be working in the movies favour are the favorable reviews from critics and audiences alike. At the moment the movie stands at 97% fresh at RottenTomatoes with 109(!) reviews accounted for. Audiences seem to be equally appreciative of the movie giving it an 'A' Grade CinemaScore.

On another note, somebody has already uploaded the OST to Youtube. Anybody looking for a good cry could consider listening to Kermit's song in the movie, Pictures in My Head.

Saw this with my 7 year old today. To be honest I just used her as the excuse to go see it :)

It's difficult to describe how much I loved this film. I suppose it's the mix of childhood memories of being in awe at The Muppet Show, the nostalgia nods to the original series (the photos as Walter looks round Kermits old office, including one of Jim Henson) made me want to revisit the old shows, and the characters being so well established. The plot is razor thin, but it's held together well by an excellent soundtrack / catchy songs. Normally the kid will want a toiler break half way through, but we both just sat fixated at the screen without any moments of boredom or clockwatching.

Jason Segel and Amy Adams (schwing!) don't come across too cheesey at any point, and the camoes keep the adults on their toes. There were a few belly laughs from us oldies in the cinema several times, and the ending had a touch of genius about it (although the "twist" in the credits passed my kid by and I had to explain it in the car home).

I'll be picking this up on blu-ray for sure. Infact I'm tempted to go order the box sets just now :)

As others have said it tows the line nicely between "sweet" and "too sacrine".

I didn't think it was amazingly funny throughout (several moments got a laugh, but the only genuinely constant-LOL scene was the entire scene outside Kermit's house) - but it was warm and entertaining throughout.

The only thing I can really fault it was were the cameos - there were enough that it was annoying/jarring, but not enough that it was fun to spot/count them (If that makes sense). I wondered

who was going to play human Walter as the song started

and that worked out well.

The songs were good - Karmit steals the show with the Rainbow Song though

That eye infection near the end is obviously highly contagious :(

This is a truly lovely film. It's nice to see so many people that are incredibly passionate about making something all get together and craft a piece of work that doesn't contain even a second of cynicism. It's a real Muppets film alright, and the songs especially are absolutely amazing. I too wept without shame at the end, you'd be stone if you didn't.

They were supposed to be sugary, holding together the plot and being that are basically the entire point of the human characters in a Muppets film.

Anyway, I didn't realise until afterwards that Bret McKenzie did the music. It's obvious now I've read it, but wow, that's some seriously catchy stuff.

Saw this with the kids today and to echo the other comments it is utterly brilliant. Absolutely loved every second of it.

I too suffered with something in my eye at one point, given the number of others who appear to have suffered similarly, should we assume the cinema owners are surreptitiously pumping some sort of tear gas into the cinema?

Cheers,

Ryan

Pretty much like Pixar's output, it was incredibly refreshing to watch this. It still has that innocence which is great in the cynical world we live in. I took my 5 year old to see it and was explaining before we went in that I was his age when I first started watching The Muppets in the late 70's and fell in love with them. Full circle!

Went yesterday with my wife and 2 children ( son 15 and daughter 12) and loved it from beginning to end. As I dragged the 3 of them there I wasn't sure if they would enjoy it but they all did. Special mention to Walter who I thought was extra great :)
