Just noticed this on the Nintendo UK website (link)

If you are a member of Club Nintendo, you’ll need to follow a simple process to keep your membership active due to some changes here at the official Nintendo of Europe website.

Club Nintendo and the Nintendo website are now governed by a new set of Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy, which you will need to accept before May 31st 2011 if you want to continue enjoying your Club Nintendo membership and its related benefits. If you are a Club Nintendo member aged under 16, you’ll have to have the new Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy accepted on your behalf by an adult.

If you haven’t accepted the new Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy by May 31st, your Club Nintendo account will be deleted, resulting in the loss of any Stars you have accrued during your membership.

You will be prompted to accept the new Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy when you log into your Club Nintendo account. Club Nintendo members aged under 16 will be prompted to seek parental approval for the verification process upon logging in. A summary of the most important changes will be shown before you accept the new Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. You can read both the new and old Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy by clicking the links below.

* Terms and Conditions

* Privacy Policy

We hope you will continue to enjoy exchanging Stars for exclusive Nintendo goodies in the Stars Catalogue, and thank you for your understanding following this update to our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.

If you have the browser set to remember your login and password you'll need to logout and log back in again to accept the new terms and conditions otherwise your account will be deleted.

Apparently this is because your Club Nintendo account will be linked to your 3DS:

The amendment of the Club Nintendo Privacy Policy was necessary due to the launch of the new Nintendo 3DS system which offers a broad variety of network services. As you can link your Club Nintendo account to your Nintendo 3DS system, we adjusted the existing privacy policy to reflect and explain this. Under the new Club Nintendo Privacy Policy we ask for your consent to share your data with our parent company Nintendo Co. Ltd. in Japan. The Nintendo 3DS system offers many new and exciting features and applications which we cannot provide to you without involving our parent company. As you can link your Club Nintendo account to your Nintendo 3DS system, the involvement of our parent company also affects Club Nintendo. Your consent allows us to improve our services and products and to make them more attractive for you. Nintendo Co., Ltd. will use your information only for the purposes outlined in the Club Nintendo Privacy Policy and we will take all necessary steps to ensure that your privacy is protected. We also tried to make the Club Nintendo Privacy Policy more transparent and easier to understand and made changes which were necessary due to an amendment of the legal situation. Please indicate if you are willing to accept the changes to the Club Nintendo Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy by selecting “I ACCEPT” or “I DECLINE” from the options listed below. You can also choose to read the full Club Nintendo Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy for a more detailed explanation of what’s new.

Feel sorry for anyone that doesn't see this warning and loses their star balance. I've got my sights set on that laptop bag. Just 7000 stars...

You do realise that stars expire after a year anyway?

Oh, damn. The only thing I've bought from Nintendo in the last 6 years or so was the 3DS. Looks like I'm never going to be able to use my points.

  • 5 weeks later...

I don't know if this is related to the recent hackery but I can't log in to this at all now. I read this thread when it first came up, logged in and saw the terms and conditions thing - I think I may have accidentally clicked cancel first and then accept before the page had even loaded. Can't remember what happened then and it never showed the terms and conditions page again so I kinda forgot about it. It's now saying 'Invalid Login. Please try again' which is looking like I've been deleted but at the same time it still allowed me to reset my password in case that was the problem. Same result after pasting the new password in and no links to ask any more complex questions about what's going on :(
