Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.

Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole region. The process has begun and some countries are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach you.

In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3′s firmware updated and change your password, both of which are required to get online.

This update to the Euro PSN blog makes it sound like you should be able to change your password now, prior to PSN proper coming back up, but I can't do it after updating the firmware on my PS3.

^Same here, PSN is still down for me? despite updating to new FW.

The 3.61 update isn't connected to the PSN server, when PSN goes online (somewhere within the next 48 hours) you'll be able to connect to log in then you'll be prompted to change you password.

US is back online but my account won't connect, it appears that your first connect is attached to your IP so if you're in the UK and have a main US account like I do log in with your UK account first.

^Thank you, I was hearing people in the STates playing online.

I don't want to take this thread off topic, but I couldn't leave this. The PS3 might not have as many co-op games as the 360, but it has a fair few.

Demon's Souls. I am struggling on my own. Oh, I do hope PSN comes back today.

Good news, region locking isn't in effect. If you've got a US account, you should be able to log in with no problems.

And good ol' Sony, activating PSN in the M.E before mainland Europe.

They spend three times what Europe do...

Nice. My US account is back up and running... which is good, since I've got over $200 worth of content there. I was able to change the password on the PS3 itself that time, but my UK account insists on sending an email, which hasn't been sent. I assume they're getting battered right now though.

It can upwards of an hour, but with the extra load, it might take longer.

:)
