I haven't bothered to update yet as I am literally just about to go to bed. But if I have forgotten my PSN password, and update my ps3's firmware and then try to 'login' will it ask me to create a new password straight away without the old one ?

I don't think it even resets your password at the moment.

From the press release above:

We strongly recommend that all PSN account holders with PS3s update their systems to prepare for when PlayStation Network is back online.

So we're just downloading the software ready for when it goes live.

On a positive note, though, if they've got the software ready to go, it can't be long before they turn it back on.

A lot of people with Playstations have been asking for co-operative games (of which I've realised there are pretty much none - Resi 5 and sports games).

I don't want to take this thread off topic, but I couldn't leave this. The PS3 might not have as many co-op games as the 360, but it has a fair few.

I've been playing co-op games with a friend regularly on PS3 for a while now and we haven't had too many problems finding new games to play. We've done Uncharted 2, LBP, RE5, Modern Warfare 2, Army of Two 1+2, Lost Planet 2 and Lara Croft, and we've got Portal 2 and Dead Rising 2 lined up.

Now I barely use PSN, been keeping an eye on credit card info, but been mostly "meh" about this. Until I watched the Kaz Hirai renouncement vid on the playstation blog after someone on another forum pointed it out. That actually got me a little. The criminals who hacked the data are bastards and all that but Kaz just came across as a smug, unapolgetic robot in that vid. Yes he goes on about what they're doing to make sure this doesn't happen again, or at least to the best of their ability, but not once does he say sorry.

No apology about the time it took to reveal the data theft (I find it hard to believe it took them that long), no apology about the service being down for the length of time it was, and no apology for saving card details incorrectly/not encrypting them. I'm not asking much here, just one word. Come on Kaz, show us you're human and not some sort or robot of a younger George Takei and admit that Sony made the most human thing of all. A mistake.

I dunno, maybe I'm in the wrong here.

He already did all of that in the last vid

Not in all states, but they are starting to roll it out.

No news on when we can expect PSN to be live here, but it should hopefully be later today. We should also getting more info on the 'Welcome Back' gifts later today.

:)

I'm assuming we can't change our passwords until it lets us log into PSN? There's no one off form to fill?

Nope. When PSN goes live, the first time you attempt to log in, you'll be prompted to change your password.

Downloaded the 3.61 update, and am using the PS3 browser as my only means of net coverage. In the downtime, I'd been accessing Sony's English forums without a hitch (albeit as a guest, not logged in).

Now however, whenever I go to this page, I'm getting a loading bar and status message that lasts 15-20 SECONDS every time I load a new page! WTF?

Are Sony screening IP's now?

There are a few early (possibly incorrect/exaggerated) reports coming in that PSN is region IP locked. It might be a temporary measure until PSN is fully up and running or it might be Sony's way of stopping people from abusing the free game offer. (this is speculation on my part)

More news as it comes in, hopefully it's a temporary measure.
