Why is this good? Wikipedia says that the R700 dates from 2008?

Aye, but the R700 is vastly more powerful than what the 360 and PS3 have powering them. Also given the advance in fabrication technology a fully specced part (800 shaders) should be cheap and cool running.

I have a 4850 - isn't that part of the same family? Anyway, it's fanless, so I'd imagine they've got it (even) cooler, years on.

Will Nintendo even officially publish any tech specs for Project Café? they stopped giving out that sort of info ages ago, either through embarrassment at how poorly it stacked up next to the opposition or because as far as they are concerned, only dev partners need to know those particulars, consumers should just worry about the end results.

Lol...the ONLY thing i want to know are the tech specs TBH, and im not expecting to be any wiser after the conference than i am now...

As usual, the specs will leak out drip feed style over the next 12mths...

so how do we expect them to gimp it at a basic level this time? Still region locked? Still limiting video output capabilities on a per region basis?

Well you can bet it will be region locked, especially after the 3DS. My only concern for E3 is that they wont show any games for the new system and when they said "playable" they actually meant interactive tech demoes

It can be the greatest console ever but if it's region locked, I'm out. There is no excuse these days when the other two either leave it to the developer or simply don't have it

I had a 4870x2 and it ran hotter than the sun. On hot days it would overheat and fall over (admittedly I had it in a pokey little case at the time with shitty airflow).

I'd imagine your fanless 4850 runs canny hot.

Never had a problem, but seeing as the new stuff will be made at a much smaller/cooler size than the 4850's 55nm, I expect miracles. ^_^

It's just a controller.

No it isn't.

Considder me underwhelmed. The two screen gimmickry is cool and all, but otherwise I don't see what it offers me over the 360 and PS3 I already own, other than the inevitable WiiU Sports type stuff. All the third party stuff they showed is coming out this year on existing consoles.

Well looks like I was right :( Only thing we saw from Nintendo a few seconds of Zelda (which looks stunning) but even that wasnt confirmed as an actual game. No doubt they did this to let the third parties have more exposure.

I honestly feel a bit dizzy with disappointment. They have announced it way too early, without a single proper game to show running on it. Obviously the announcement is a reaction to declining Wii sales. I'm E3'd out.

Look, I'm telling you, I watched that video with the rest of you, and it really looks like just a controller to me. Admittedly I did have to close my eyes a few times to concentrate on digging around the back of my pants and smelling my fingers, but I'm confident you've just posted a picture of a toaster there to try and trick me.
