It's just occured to me that a touch-screen controller would allow Nintendo to release the DS back catalogue on this new console.

Edit: I changed the wording to seem more positive because it's not a bad thing.

Is it gonna have high enough resolution to have both screens on one?

Probably not, but you won't need to use a stylus.

Thinking about it, what if games designed for the new controller also work on the 3DS using only the bottom screen? What if 3DS games also work on this new console, using the TV as the top screen? :omg:

Is this enough overexcited baseless speculation that will seem laughable after the E3 presentation? :omg: :OMG:

yes, but the dual screen controller and TV had crossed my mind. You could even sit just the right distance away and controller close enough to replicate it exatly. I'd love to see the Nintendo educational video for that one.

Nintendo have already said they didn't make the 3D screen on the 3DS a touch screen as smudges and stuff had a negative impact on the 3D effect. I can't imagine they've solved that in between finalising the 3DS and this controller.

I assume you're dismissing every technical specification which has been rumoured, given there's no way they'd be possible in a device you can hold in your hands and is also a fully functioning portable.

The PS Vita is pretty mch a portable PS3 so I don't think it's too far fetched, especially considering we won't be seeing it for another 18 months (Wii 2 that is).

Not necessarily. The new console won't be out for at least another year and games will already be in development for the Motion Plus.

No chance, there's close to fuck all ever been announced that would be using it, and with the announcement of new tech it'll get dropped like a stone by the three people who were thinking about releasing something anyway. Nintendo made an average-but-fun control mechanism really quite good with the WMP, then totally fucking ignored it. Question is, is this new screen/controller/whatever going to be just as half baked as their usual first attempts? Or should I be waiting for Cafe Touchscreen Plus - "now it actually does what we said it would!"?

Assuming High Voltage will pump out another mediocrity fest which still Gets Pointer Controls Wrong (and the Conduit 2 only used M+ for turning while not pointing at the screen in any case - why bother?), there's pretty much nothing coming out for it after Zelda, unless they're saving stuff up for E3 announcements.

New rumored specs for Project Cafe from guru3d.com-- if this is true it looks like it will soundly trounce the PS3 and X360, and will definitely be able to hold its own against Sony and Microsofts next gen (sure they'll be more powerful, but I bet it'll be hard to really tell much difference in game). Heres hoping these nice specs + some new unknown Nintendo gimmick will make for a kick ass machine!

Wii 2 Possible Leaked Specifications

By Hilbert Hagedoorn, June 6, 2011 - 8:21 PM N/A

No secret is safe on the web, Datatagg3 from our forums spotted this infortmation.

If this true, it gonna be a great machine that will trump current Gen. yet to me its a stop gap for Nintendo. Meaning it will be the top of the heap for awhile, yet short lived as it will be trumped when MS and Sony bring out there new machines.

Here's what's being developped under 'Project Cafe'.

Graphics:

Custom AMD RV770 Chip “WOLF” @ 766Mhz on 32nm process

1398 Gflops

CPU:

Custom IBM Power 6 Chip “FOX” on 32nm process

4 cores, each two way SMT-capable and clocked at 3.5 GHz

175.9 GFLOPS theoretical peak performance (single-precision)

87.6 GFLOPS theoretical peak performance (double-precision)

Memory:

512 MB XDR2 DRAM main memory

+ 1024 GDDR5 video memory

+ 16 MB eDRAM

Storage:

2.5-inch SATA hard drive with 250 GB / 320 GB capacity

Expanded storage via SD and SDHC card memory (up to 64 GB)

Media:

Custom Blu-ray Disc, up to 50 GB

Compatible with 7 cm Nintendo GameCube Game Disc and 12 cm Wii Optical Disc

Display:

Video output formats

Composite video: 480i, 576i (PAL)

S-Video: 480i, 576i (PAL)

RGB SCART: 480i, 576i (PAL)

Component (YPBPR): 480i, 576i (PAL), 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p

Specs look very good, except for only 512MB main RAM?? The gig of video memory is nice, and it appears the 16MB spare RAM from the GC and Wii will also be in this machine. Whats really interesting to me is that the Blu Ray drive will be backwards compatible with GC and Wii discs, which means this system ought to be able to play those games natively, which is awesome! No emulation crap like the 360 and PS3 use to play their last gen games.

Some fast ass 32nm process chips on this baby as well. If all this is true (and if history tells us anything you know that Nintendo will probably never reveal the real specs themselves, so it may be a while till we know for sure) this looks to be a kick ass machine and Nintendo gamers dream, especially considering the probability that it will have some cool new gimmick/feature as well (this is Nintendo after all).

Heres hoping this doesnt turn out to be way off base like the rumored "equivalent to X360" 3DS rumors a while back....

The long-in-development Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still being worked on. And because there's a lot more development to go, the game sadly won't be making this generation of consoles.

"It is still alive and we are very far [into] development so we can't go back now," series creator Michel Ancel told GI.biz last night.. "We are targeting the next generation of consoles."

Considering the game was first unveiled in 2008, that's one hell of a wait!

Kotaku

Cafe exclusive then? :eyebrows:
