Ridge Racer 3DS

My only problem with it is that I wish there was a "random single player race" button on the very first interactive screen, that would drop you straight into a 3-lap race on a random track in a suitable car, skipping all the menus.

For an arcadey title, I would have preferred there wasn't so much saving and loading between the title screen and the game proper.

Yeah, there are a LOT of menus. Choose a track, choose a car, choose a type of car, choose your transmission, choose your modifications, choose your assists... LOADING... Argh!

How many tracks are there? My single race menu is giving me 15 regular and 15 reversed to choose from, although I assume I'll unlock more from the GP, right?

dunno - ridge is the only place I've seen it...

If it is a software issue, then it's a pretty monumental goof-up of epic proportions!

I wonder if 3DS games can be 'patched'...

I ordered Ridge from bee.com when they had the 20% off and immediately regretted it.

This was due to people saying the PSP versions were better or that 3D didn’t add enough new to the mix.

I’ve also read people saying the graphics were a bit dull.

To be honest I even went as far as listing it on eBay before even receiving it.

My 3DS I bought off an eBay seller came this morning along with my bee.com Ridge, no sign of Pilot Wings or Ghost Recon.

So after messing around creating a Mii and playing around with the AR cards I thought I would at least have a look at Ridge Racer 3DS.

Hence to say the eBay listing has been removed as the item is no longer available.

People saying the 3D doesn’t bring enough new to the series want shooting.

Looking at the top screen is like looking through a window.

I felt myself grinning like a loon when going through sea life centre(ish) tunnels.

I’ve got the 3D set to max and loving every minute.

Yup, they do.

Also when the commentator lady says "I think I'm gonna be sick" it could be a hardware reference too

Been playing this alot, nothing else is getting a look in.

how many music discs are there,to choose from?

What ghosting?

It was discussed earlier in the thread; sometimes you can see "ghost" images through your right eye of what your left eye should see, and vice versa. It happens most often when looking at the white painted lines on dark tarmac roads. I see it occasionally and think it's very distracting; I hope it is a software thing and that Namco have the decency to patch it when the online services come along.

I've never even played a Ridge Racer game before, but I thought I'd get this as a 'filler' while waiting for the bigger Nintendo stuff to arrive at some point down the line. I'm loving it. Really easy to get to grips with the handling, well-designed tracks and the 3D adds a noticeable difference to the visuals, making it feel more solid and 'real' than a driving game ever has before. It's kind of revolutionary but subtle at the same time. It's not made me sick either, I'm pleased to say.

Having just received Asphalt 3D (review copy - no worries, I haven't gone insane) only makes me realize even more how brilliant Ridge Racer 3D is. The 3D effect in Asphalt is very obviously tacked on, and the overall racing feels like an outdated iPhone game - which it is, essentially.

By all means, avoid that game, and get Ridge Racer 3D. It sets an example for any future 3D(S) game where speed and sensation play major roles.

is Ridge Racer 3D worth buying Nintendo 3DS to play on the bus. Or I should wait for PSP 2. As I don't do much portable gaming.

If you really like Ridge Racer, I'd say yes. It's the ultimate RR game in terms of sensation, and the 3D effect is pretty much the best around in any game, I reckon.

Also note that Namco has stated they don't have plans for a Ridge Racer game on the PSP2 / NGP.

Can't say I've noticed any ghosting. Does it happen in other games?

Huge Ridge fan, but I put off getting this at first due to the various moans. Glad I picked it up now though, I can't see any of the probs people have brought up. It looks easily as good as the PSP game, if not better due to the 3D. And these rendering/ghosting issues are non-existant to my eyes, it looks as good as every other 3D game on the system. Could there be a fixed batch of carts?

This is the first 3DS game I've played with the slider cranked super high, I find it works really well. It's occurring to be what an amazing idea the slider is, as it appears to make things look further or closer, and certain games/engines look better at certain distances. Something like this for instance, which its long stretches and wide views finds a really nice sweet spot near maximum, while a game like Rayman where you're typically looking much closer feels way more natural with it down low. I find with every game you can typically just slide it up and down slowly until it suddenly "clicks".

When I first started playing Ridge I had the 3D slider half way.

I saw ghosting and I was getting a little irritated.

However this was due to playing the 3DS at arms' length.

Once I brought the 3DS a lot closer and maxed the slider up the ghosting was gone.

I think a lot of the ghosting complaints come from not know how to view the top screen.

As someone has mentioned earlier you need to look through rather than at the 3D screen.
