tbh i either scrape gingerly with a scalpel or steal my gf's emery boards (it's a carboard nail file, the ones I steal are about 1500 grit - beware, as they make some emery boards that are coarse as gravel.

i drilled the barrel of some heavy weapon with an actual electric drill the other day  the bore is absurd but it works with grimdark I think

Can anyone recommend a decent white acrylic instead of corax white? I’ve had enough of the gw paints turning to a solid lump of putty and would like something that is actually a useable liquid.
Thanks.

That Dead White is very good, but perhaps even better in my opinion is Vallejo Cold White (which also seems to be called Foundation White sometimes) number 70.919.  It's a really bright, pure white that flows well.

Vallejo Offwhite 70.820 is solid. Also use Liquitex Heavy Body Titanium White, which is thick but great coverage and smooth when you thin it down (fairly sure I was complaining about white on here and someone said to just get the artist stuff).

^ I love Vallejo Game Color. It gets a lot of stick online but I've had nothing but good experiences with the entire line. I'm currently on with collecting the whole set seeing as it's a valid colour match to the old 80s/90s GW range. Their Game Air range is also great, even if you don't have an airbrush (I love the black!). I'll be getting the Air whites/browns once I start airbrushing my OBRs in a couple of months because screw painting a skeletal army any other way.

As already said above; when it comes to pure white you can't go wrong with having a tube of Titanium White heavy body from Golden/Liquitex/W&N, etc.

Speaking of new paints I just got some of these in for some situational priming. Their black is very, very good, and I can't see myself moving to anything else.

Plus, I've got these basts to get ready. I didn't want to prime in black and then base in black, so would rather prime in blue.

At this point there really is no best paint other than what suits your purpose. One of my biggest hobby mistakes was switching from Army painter to scale color thinking I needed to use "proper" paints. Looking back I wasted a lot of time adapting my method to fit the scale color paints, never mind the purchase cost. For all of the effort, practice and paints I've bought since then I still basically charge the same as what I did back when I was painting with army painter. Consistency is an overlooked component of miniature painting.

Vallejo air black is indeed the shit, but the air browns have some real coverage issues. AB only, and only then over light colours. For brush work the lighter browns in their air range are basically unusable.

I'm absolutely nowhere near the skill level of people in this thread, but I did vow that in 2022 I would paint my first mini and I'm pretty happy with the result!  Really looking forward to exploring the hobby and actually having a fully painted boardgame for the first time. :D

Incredible work, and a first effort? Not envious at all. Nope.

That looks fantastic, and for a first effort it's amazing. :)

Here's a fun collection of chibi models that I painted for money. These were the first 3d printed models that I've painted and I must say I was impressed with the quality. The surface was very smooth, details sharp and only a little cleanup was required. There are individual models on my website if you want to see such things https://opponenttheory.com/blog/2022/2/25/camp-grizzly-commission
