What is the point of applying the jailbreak onto your PS3 right now? I mean, no homebrew apps etc have been released yet.

I would wait for Sony's response first, especially when there is no re-signed homebrew ready yet. As much as I'd love region-free PS2 (so I can play The Chikyuu Boueigun 2 again!) and Final Burn Alpha on there I really don't want to risk losing PSN.

Just installed the SNES emu and it runs beautifully. I really like the PS3 pad for emus too, and Super Mario World plays really well. It's a very early version though so there's no menu and no sound, but it's exciting times.

And don't forget that the PS3 works with those USB Saturn pads too, so Mega Drive (and possibly Saturn emulation?) will be sweet.

why is it so exciting hacking your ps3 to play emulations of games from the past? Surely most of you guys have emus running on other hardware anyway? And the homebrew will mostly be some cheap utilities. The one or two gaming highlights wont be worth the hassle. The big truth is this hack is to play pirate games and take away any blu ray region locks. Pointless and better not end up costing those of us that dont want in on it.

Until you've played the first Advance Wars in 1080p JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN, you've not lived. The bleeding from the eyes bit I could have done without, admittedly.

The hack isn't designed for piracy and doesn't enable piracy. Of course that's going to change over time but the guys that made the breakthrough have only enabled Linux and homebrew.

I may sound like a total ass-hat here, but illustrating that the PS3 hack doesn't facilitate piracy by using the example of how great a pirated game from another system plays on it doesn't help.

True, but I was actually referring to the original jailbreak - I've not touched this new one yet (though I gather Mednafen now runs on it). And just because I choose to point out that the hackers are anti-piracy doesn't mean I am! :)

What decent PSN games are there out there?

I've got Joe Danger which is awesome, is there any other must-haves on there? Oh yeah and I already have Wipeout and Tekken as well.

Check out Pixeljunk Shooter, it's even awesomer than Joe Danger (but really short) and there's a demo.
