Ultra Street Fighter IV

I think that foul old akuma might have turned out to be the bestman in the vanilla, yes. He was time-release in the arcades, which meant that not many people used him to start with, so vortex didn't get figured out until relatively late on. But he could get 400 damage + a hard knockdown on sagat off a jab, which means he won that matchup at least.

Also I wonder if vanilla gen will keep his low jump arc, because if so he won't be able to crossup t-hawk or hugo.

Also also i wonder if the vanillamans will be able to redly focus, or delay wakeup.

I am 29 years old.

If this applies across the whole game rather than being specific to Endless or something then I can't say I'm a fan - it completely undermines all the rebalancing work they've been doing for Ultra. In fact, it just throws balance as a concept out the window. Just fling everything in there and let the players figure it out. Welcome back, AE Yun.

Interested to see whether the new system mechanics also apply to old characters, i.e. can pre-Ultra shotos still FADC forward after a blocked DP? Hmm.

Man, this latest update sounds like a massive clusterfuck in the quest for balance

Not only are they coming in with a re-balance, new characters, new mechanics but they're throwing all the old shit into the mix too!

This could very well turn out to be the most broken version of all!

I imagine it's just for messing about with your friends online. Settling old and new rivalries/beefs etc.

They allowed it for the SF2 ann. edition, which funnily enough lead to a load of vanilla Sagats!

I'm slightly concerned that fundamental changes to the system, will mean that old iterations are not quite as they once were.

For example, wasn't it a fundamental system change that introduced unblockables into the game between SF4 and Super?

This all sounds very messy...

The problem with living in the US is that when some AMAZINGLY EXCITING Street Fights news is leaked, I post it here and then have to wait until all you lazy bums wake up to see it. Humph!

Anyway. AMAZINGLY EXCITING news below.

It was just revealed at the SoCal event that Ultra Street Fighter IV will incorporate a Version Select option when you choose your character that covers all iterations of the game thus far. That includes,

SFIV

SSFIV

SSFIV AE

SSFIV AE R (2012)

USFIV

Here is a picture.

Vanilla Sagat takes on the world.

Holy shit. I look forward to AE Yun's comeback :P and sweep knockdowns with Ibuki ;)

Also, I think we need to arrange some more online tournaments later this year, either to give AE a sendoff or to put our USFIV skills to work. I could even set up a stream this time, if not for the threat of a crippling bandwidth hit ;)

And no more button checks?

I bet tournament streams still show players starting and quitting matches to ensure their buttons work. Hopefully the fact you can now assign attacks with button presses rather than cycling through different choices negates that.

I'd imagine players would still like that brief button check to get a feel for the setup's latency and stuff though.

Someone noticed that the PS3 logo from previous trailers* has now been replaced with just "playstation". PS4 and Vita crossbuy/crossplay please.

*Just watched the announcement trailer and it just said "Playstation" at the end of that too. Ah well. Still, it's almost certain, right? Right?

Vanilla Dan has to be in with a shout, yeah. He didn't have the ridiculous frame advantage on his close normals and his close hard kick pushed opponents too far back. He still had something of a lk.Dan Kick pressure game though.

Makoto without that lp.fukiage, corner juggles and slower dash (I think? I remember hayate FADC maybe being completely unsafe before?) wasn't Makoto at all. DeeJay was pretty poor in Super as well; playing an inferior zoning game to Super's (excellent) Guile and his hit-confirm damage up close relying on one-frame links. Plus the stricter knee shot was a bit of a pain. Folk who could low-profile his wakeup with meaties would have no problems.

What about Vanilla Gouken?

Playing 3 man lobbies while chatting in a party and Joffo's weird headset/TV speakers setup just caught a 15k gief growling "you and your fucking Rufus" as I scratched out a cheeky win.
