Ultra Street Fighter IV

That was absurdly good. I've not seen much of Snake Eyez beyond a few Evo vids, and his doesn't seem to be a name oft-recalled when discussing the pantheon of SF luminaries.

If you're disappointed with the result, fret not, Norcal fans. Plenty of revenge had at the Marvel exhibition.

I thought that smug was the best? I don't really know anything mind.

I have Gold again and am AIMING to not be a rubbish person on this, so newcomers (peveen was it?) please add and invite. Devoncommando is the tag and I literally know 80% of 40% of the rosters moves, but no idea how to combo them or use them appropriately.

Street Fighter.

Jason had to fight benners first round and verry narrowly lost. I had to fight domihy, the guile who knocked me into losers this time last year, and verry narrowly won. I cracked fully twice!

Sith I guess you didn't make it?

Jason beat a cody/abel then lost narrowly to guile. Lots of valuable learning (and homework to take away) for his Rose though.

I lost to goukifafa and then beat a Chun Li. Next match is probably against fuzzy's cammy so...

Been a good day though, we've played a lot of this game street fighter. Some of you guys should try playing it sometime - it's pretty fun!

Delayed wakeup cost you there. Are you guys considering hypespotting or is it too far?

Anyway yes, I lost to fuzzy so that's 2 and 2 for me this time. I think I did pretty well at blocking his stuff but never even got started with any ideas of my own.

I'm pretty pleased with my own record, and what I really wanted was practice of not cracking which this was to a certain extent. I dropped so much stuff in tournament that I'd been hitting fine the rest of the weekend but the only way to get past that is to keep experiencing it, and I also did some adapting and learned how not to worry about looking like a scrub. The Chun player I beat suffered two lame trap dive kicks into ex messiah because by that point I was figuring out that sometimes you just have to trust your instincts, and that you know what they're going to do. And I can't really describe what it felt like to slowly fall apart in my first match, which was on the big screen and the stream, and be listening to a couple of dozen people chatting about what was happening, roaring when I dropped something and encouraging my opponent. I wish I'd taken a picture because the projector screen was genuinely massive and the room was packed. 32 entrants for AE, and brackets for Marvel, TTT2 and ST. And just so many people excited to get games in, share knowledge, etc.

Once the stream finishes you can check the archive for my first game, which features totally not rare footage of me starting out ok and then thoroughly cracking.

Daaamn, delayed posting cost me. Curse your excellent punning, Joe!

Yeah, bodied. He was trying out a new character and the two dudes he had to play against are both unreasonably good, though, so it's understandable.

EDIT: just checked and he took 3rd in UMVC3 though!

So the Team WNF vs Team NorCal exhibition was a bit good.

Snake Eyes really is the best.

Fuck about, this is amazing. There's one neutral jump against Ricky that is my most favourite neutral jump of all time.

Too wired for bed now. Leveluplive2 already has the SCR Top 32 archive up so I'm going in.

The problem with living in the US is that when some AMAZINGLY EXCITING Street Fights news is leaked, I post it here and then have to wait until all you lazy bums wake up to see it. Humph!

Anyway. AMAZINGLY EXCITING news below.

It was just revealed at the SoCal event that Ultra Street Fighter IV will incorporate a Version Select option when you choose your character that covers all iterations of the game thus far. That includes,

SFIV

SSFIV

SSFIV AE

SSFIV AE R (2012)

USFIV

Here is a picture.

Ooh. Edition Select is interesting. It'll be fun to see how some of the matches turn out. Also, am I misremembering things or was there a slight balance patch during Vanilla as well, removing Fei's Chicken Wing infinite as well as some other little things?

One thing I'd like to know is if all the tech discovered since the Vanilla days means someone like Cammy or Akuma is actually the real top tier in Vanilla. Sagat's big issue was the hilarious damage he did, rather than his ability to shut down his opponent completely to the point where it'd hardly matter if their next attack did 50% damage.

Should be a load of fun to mess about with. I assume tournaments will run on Ultra only, Ranked online will be similar, and Endless lobbies will be customisable? It's one step closer to System Direction options!
