His lack of anti-air DPs is definitely the biggest weakness in his game at the moment. Dropped combos here and there are going to happen when using a new character, and Wao drops combos all over the place anyway, but yeah he has to stop letting people jump on him. I think the character is a good fit for him other than that though, and with more time and experience think it'll work out. Oni's close range game involves a lot of reads and I think that suits Sanford pretty well. Also, the fact that Oni can't cancel his DP on block means that Sanford can make hard reads with uppercuts like he would anyway and can save his meter for combos and demons. I'd still rather see him play Sagat though, as he is the manliest of characters.

By 'absurd' I mean that, alongside the usual sweaty men who spend far too much of their time becoming inordinately good at a childrens videogame, there are other men from different parts of the world who have also spent a frankly unbelievable amount of time playing that exact same childrens video game.

All for no discernable purpose whatsoever.

Aye, WNF was stacked this week, somewhere close to 100 players in the bracket. Wao's performance wasn't quite up to his usual standard and he couldn't seem to finish any of his combos. Michael Tan had a better run, though one of his wins was outrageously lucky. Every stream match was more like top 32 at a major than a WNF one, so I'd recommend watching the archives for sure.

GGs to Joffles today. Had an empty house and so played about 100 games of online fightings. Ended up in a three man lobby with me, Joffo and a space for random folks to join in. I miss doing lobbies with that format. They are fun.

Joffo was doing that when I joined him last night and the second person to join us was nickfullspec! Most enjoyable matches against both fine gentlemen.

It's good against people you don't know, too, especially if you have party chat on the go.

It was cool hearing VicTheSlick talking about his new role working for Twitch on the WNF stream as well. He's essentially the Twitch equivalent of Combofiend and I think he's an excellent choice for the role. He said that Twitch wanted to get more actively involved with the fighting game scene and had a bit of money to throw at it. They suggested pot bonuses for tournaments, but Vic pitched the idea of flying over international talents who aren't sponsored and haven't been over before as another way to use that cash. I like this idea a lot, and delivering Wao and Michael Tan as the first two Twitch backed players is a great start. It seems that all Wao and Tan had to do for their plane tickets was pose for a few photos and wear some excellent purple t-shirts. Not a bad deal at all.

Oh, and community rep for Twitch is now on my list of dream jobs because all of their branding is purple on purple and Vic was basically dressed as me for the evening,

Additional also: Allystah, Darth Guile from the Xboxnets is coming to SFO on Sunday. I can't remember if I played him on your account or Dragonman but I do remember that I hit him with point blank Chun ultra 1 two games in a row because he always throws an autopilot sonic boom immediately after doing short jab jab jab fierce. I need to tell his first opponent this so that they can ultra it the first time he does it and look like some sort of Mike Ross-esque prediction god.

GGs Alistarr. I forget exactly when we started but that was a looong session. I have fully committed to Rose for the forseeable future I think. See how good I was at sticking with her for almost that entire session against all those different opponents and characters? Never do that with Chun in casuals but I am having so much fun using Rose that I only very occasionally feel like switching. Thought this afternoon added a lot to my game, particularly in learning as I go about how to deal with rushdown and how to survive against Rufus in particular. Needed a run of games like that to help make my options in a given situation become more familiar and instinctive to me. In just this one set alone I have massively upped my EX soul throw and air to air game in particular. I'm finding situational uses for buttons that I hadn't been using before and generally getting more comfortable with the character outside of beating the ranked masses who don't know what's going on.

Also needed to use her in a long set against you because you adapt and because you've seen the set ups and I can talk you through what they are so I don't just get cheap free damage using tech you've never seen before. The Luffy set up in the corner in particular is completely free damage in ranked, but now you've seen it about forty times in a row you've given me a reason to properly practise the variants I can use to create real mix ups. By the end of this set I think I'd turned it into a really nice 50/50 where I can hit behind and land in front or hit behind and land behind. That second version I've been practising today will be so useful against the SFO regulars who have seen me do the other version against 100+ ranked opponents as Dragonman. I have also upped the damage on my combos thanks to watching Arturo at Winter Brawl. Off the second version of the Louffy corner set up I can't do the corner juggle but I can do cr. fierce xx reflect fadc soul throw to get very nice damage and, crucially, throw you back into the corner rather than leave myself in there.

The main thing though, is that my rustiness and poor execution is costing my far too often with Chun when this isn't the case with Rose. When I make the same good read or am presented with the same punish, I am much much more confident and consistent in capitalising on it with Rose than Chun because I have played hundreds of games with Rose lately and I never bother to practise Chun.

On Sunday I will be using Rose as primary, Chun Li for my most familiar match ups (Gief, Bison, Sagat etc.) and Dudley when all else fails or if it's Fei Long and I get scared. Oh, and Gief if they use Balrog, because fuck Balrog. Will see how it goes and then make my decisions re: Hypespotting based on that.

Out ta Tech Me.

November Main.

I just got very beaten by Over Most Head's Oni. I'd never seen someone with a MASTER rank before. Aaargh. He had me dizzed from a full screen away, charged a fireball and then chased it with a tatsu for a fireball into tatsu combo for the KO. Wizard.

Just lost to SFO Dragonman's Oni too. Guh. Won the first round and took the second close before getting anti-aired all through the third. No taunt reciprocation. :(

Got a "gg" message back though!
