So Ig might appreciate this. GeoM MoDInside has started uploading content again after a good six months off. I'd say he's the best Guile to watch in terms of innovation and sheer fanciness, and during Vanilla he seemed to be inventing new stuff to do with Guile on a weekly basis. Here he is doing some nice damaging combos on Blanka and some truly disgusting set ups against Ryu:

Also haven't done a post about how much I love John Choi for a while:

Best plasma chucker in the world, tied with Daigo. I love that he doesn't stop when Gief gets an EX bar, but instead throws one or two more, then does a standing short after that because he knows *that* is the turn where Gief will decide he's had enough and try to blow through it. He just *knows* man.

Okay... USD Kick > Cl. St. HP > cr.MP > EX Boom > st.HK against Blanka? That's awesome!

I've not had much success doing crossup j.HK... I'll be in the lab in a bit, trying to make that work.

cr.MP > cr.MP? No CH message. Is that Sakura specific?

Those vids are amazing Mr Jelly. Thank you dude.

I just googled that. I'm amazed I haven't heard about it, especially with Gootecks talking recently about how there should be bitcoins (sigh) on the line for online matches. How much are you betting? And was Arturo playing Rose?

The problem I always had with Gootecks is he's always trying to find out ways to make money from the fanbase rather looking out for them. Its OK to make money but I find he's more interested in the money more than the game sometimes.

The set up on Sakura is done so that the crouching medium punch hits meaty. The first cr. mp hits on its last active frame, so you get the frame advantage but "skip" some of the recovery, allowing you to get another one in there without needing a counter hit. Some characters can link meaty normals straight into ultra using similar set ups.

You're probably right in general terms (and he is always coming up with crazy schemes to try and make money), but in this case he wasn't suggesting you should have to pay bitcoins to him/some other organisation to play matches but that you should be able to bet them against your opponents in tiny increments, just so that there's something on the line to make people care about winning. He thought it would stop so many people playing crazy in online matches.

"People play this game like they've never lost anything important... and that's because if you only play online then when you lose, you haven't lost anything important." - Gootecks, while losing a ranked match to someone playing less cautiously than him.

It's an interesting idea.

Watched the end of Wednesday Night Fights this morning. Lots of fun stuff. ChrisG is now a regular following his move to California, adding to an already very strong pool of AE players. The SoCal players still maintain that Chris King is better than Zeus and honestly I don't think there's that much to choose between them. I like that Chris King has a couple of fun gimmicks like walk up ultra 1 on top of his all round solid play. I still give Zeus the edge but not by much. Keno looks as strong as ever each time he comes out of retirement. He did a great job shutting down ChrisG and Alex Myers, who are arguably the two strongest American Sakura players at present. I think Balrog is one of the few characters who can fight her comfortably though. Alex Myers has the most extensive library of Sakura set ups and gimmicks of anyone I've seen so far, so it'll be scary to see how much better ChrisG gets now that they're pooling all their knowledge.

I hope Valle, Chris King, Keno, Filipinoman, Veloc1raptor, NGL Chris, Marq Teddy, Snake Eyes and the rest do some damage at SoCal Regionals next weekend. Also very curious to see how Wao does, given that he is Japanese player of the moment following his beastly Topanga performances. Michael Tan, Gamerbee and Infiltration are over for it as well.

This weekend it's Winter Brawl 8. As with most East Coast tournaments I want to see either Sanford or someone from Team PIE win AE. Justin Wong and Gamerbee are the most notable out of town attendees. Justin also showed up at Next Level Battle Circuit this week, leading to the most inevitable of grand finals:

Instead of Evo this year can we just have Sanford fighting every player in the world in FT5 sets please?

Yes. I am okay with that. It was better when he picked Sagat though.

Now you have a bit of spare time you should watch the latest PIE sunday on Arturo's channel too, if you haven't already. Not as jam-packed full of great sets as the previous one but there was some good stuff, particularly Sanford starting out with a dominating run of winner stays on, falling asleep on the floor for several hours and waking up to immediately start playing again. At one point he plays a FT3 against someone, wins it, and then demands that the set be extended to FT5 so he can try and win it some more. Sanford.
