Happy Newyearuken, folks!

I got bodied by the family at charades at Christmas. Consoled myself by picking up lots of goodies in the Steam sales - Skyrim (Cale will be proud), Dark Souls, DmC, Spelunky and Runner 2 amongst others.

I have mostly been playing Day Z though. It doesn't have combos, but there is a location on the map called Rog, so that makes it OK.

I'll fight you! I played AE with Jason this afternoon but aside from that session my holiday videogaming has been mostly SFxT trial mode/training mode*. I need to fight someone at it so I can understand just how bad my stuff actually is in the real world! I'm off work until the 6th so will be around fairly frequently. Get it installed!

I will also fight people at it on Xbox Live, but I don't have one of my new characters on there so will probably just be divekicking and mashing jab.

*Aside from SFxT I've played one game of Madden 08 with my brother, 2 hours of Batman Arkham Asylum (the most boring game I've played in years), 2 hours of La Mulana (the most confusing game in the world), and a bit of Ocarina of Time (because I remembered that N64s exist). No Street Fighter 4 for about ten days. Shocking.

Sorry. Should've said. Done that. Wandered about a bit opened a couple of doors. Now I've just fought a slightly tougher dude with a shield but there's a locked door behind him and seemingly no key. If I traverse the white light just outside of that area I'm taken to a higher point and faced with the Asylum Demon.

Oh right, yes you have to kill him. Do a falling attack, then once you're on the ground get right up close behind him and only back away if it looks like he's going to try and buttslam you. You're learning one of the most important lessons for Dark Souls here - be patient, accept that you might need to spend a couple of lives learning the enemy's attack patterns (and how to evade them and what's punishable) and slowly building up an attack strategy, and then execute your gameplan correctly on your next attempt. Unlike in other lesser games, running in and flailing hopefully with yer sword usually won't cut it! But once you figure out the strategy and how to execute it then you can take dudes down even when you're seemingly underpowered. Good luck!

More DS

great advice from A* but also try to keep enough endurance to be able to roll out of the way, the roll has quite a few frames of invincibility so is a good get out of jail as it where. Either that or make sure you choose the fire bombs when you create the character as he is free to those.

Excellent. Thank you, sir. I don't mind that I have to, just wanted to be sure. That's tomorrow night's task then!

E: and thank you too, Plop! I've created a Thief, whatever that may mean.

Anyone able to tell me what the humanity stat is all about? I'm wary of researching too much elsewhere for fear of spoilers.

In your first playthrough I'd probably use my humanity mainly for kindling bonfires. There's a load of more complex stuff you can do with it, but it takes ages to get far enough into the game for that to matter.

You can use it to go back to being a human, which enables online. I think the majority of people left online now are amazing at the game, and have specially created low-level characters so that they can invade new people's game to grief / give them lots of high level kit. I couldn't be arsed with it, and kind of found that the invasions weren't much fun, so just never went human.

Actually, there was one excellent time when someone invaded while I was in the dukes archives, on top of the rotating stairway, and I'd just keep turning the stairway to the other side of the balcony whenever the invader tried to get me, then taunting him. I got some delightful ragemail after that.

I can now stream to twitch! If anyone on PC is up for some games in front of a live audience, let me know :)

Yessssss. :D streamed lobbies could be awesome.

I did a bit of offline 3rd Strike on my Twitch channel a month ago but that's about the most ambitious thing I've tried... :P
