Ultra Street Fighter IV

Reading NeoGaf's Capcom Cup thread and loving all the minute-by-minute reactions to Nemo's money matches. Fanatiq sounds like a bit of a dickhead - from what I can tell, he literally ran away half-way through his set with Nemo at one point. Apparently he didn't want the match streamed at all.

Anyway, I didn't even realise Nemo was playing Marvel and that he was some sort of unstoppable killing machine over long sets. I am pleased by this.

Edit:

$1100 Cash + $1400 PayPal. Negotiations complete. Now Fanatiq asked Nemo to show him the cash.

Having the gall to negotiate paying over half via PayPal and then expecting Nemo to prove he has the money to pay up if he loses. Oh lordy.

So what are the feelings on how the delayed hard knockdown wakeup option will affect the safe jump/option select game?

Do you think it will be possible to react to the wakeup animation fast enough to safe jump either one?

I wouldn't be so sorry to see their effectiveness toned down giving me a bit of hope for a return to the game when Ultra comes around.

Have they said for definite that the 3v3 mode in USFIV is online only? It'll be great for six man lobbies anyway but it'd be nice if you could also play it local or online with two players, King of Fighters style, to force a bit of variety in character choice. (Ryu Evil Ryu Akuma vs Ryu Evil Ryu Akuma).

Also, someone should stream a Best of 44 match where two players fight each other and have to use every single character in the game, but only once each.

There were only 8!

I paid for the twitch archives like a chump (I had this whole plan for Sunday which involved nothing other than ironing loads of clothes and watching fighting game videos, so I wasn't going to let an unexpected archive restriction stand in my way) but I still haven't made it through them because twitch is terrible and keeps pausing for extended periods of time about once every minute or so of footage to buffer the next miniscule chunk of video. Never again.

Daaaaaamn, thought that was going to be part 1 of the holiday special when I saw the thumbnail on the train.

I've just been playing some (driving) theory fighter. It was quite tough, you need good option selects, plenty of knowledge about safe setups, and fast reactions. I passed all the trials though :)

Top 8 Capcom cup up for now ( I think the official channel has it too but obviously spoils the finalists....).

(note the freeze frame for this might constitute a spoiler so copy/paste the link without the space between com and / ! )

I've been skipping through this and watching my favourite players, unfortunately I was spoiled for the final result. Still fun though.

The round that starts about 2:13:30 has one of the best Makoto moments I've ever seen in a tournament. HYPETANI

Tried this last night and it was massively out of sync. Anyone else noticed that, or was it just a one-off?

I looked briefly on Capcom Fighters' channel and the individual postings of top 8 vids are in the wrong order so I've had that spoiled - what I thought was the first match of top 8 was actually Grand Finals :/

Finally finished NEC AE last night. I do increasingly find that I lose interest in tournaments from Winners Finals onwards as there are so few surprises. Think my favourite set was (early top 8 spoiler with video):

Nuckledu's Guile against Insaynne's mostly gimmick-free Blanka:

I've been messing around with Rose and really enjoying using her. Reflect in the corner followed by soul throw is lovely. Some questions for you Rose experts (Joe):

Which soul spiral to use? Is the lk version safe on block? Are the others?

c.mp xx soul spiral seems to be the hip thing to do. Is there a hit confirm into that? I see you can do cl.mk, c.mp xx soul spiral. Anything else? Which version of soul spiral should I be using?

Reflect, FADC forward , soul throw is a thing when not in the corner. What other FADC things are there?

What else do I need to know?

I've found a lovely Rose tutorial on YouTube, which I need to sit and watch properly when I have time. In the meantime, any advice will be gratefully received.

Yours,

Camel

rose tings:

The spirals are all different. lk starts up fastest, but goes the shortest distance and is least safe on block. hk starts up slow but goes further is more safe on block (-4). When badly spaced all spirals are throw punishable.

Apart from cl.mk>cr.mp Rose's other confirm into soul spiral is the cr.lk > cr.mp link, which is all of 1 frame in length. You can do cr.lp, cr.lp, cr.lk, cr.mp but this must be followed by ex spiral, since none of the others will reach.

I think her best midscreen FADC punish combo is actually cr.hp x soul spark FADC cr.hp x spiral. You can also link U2 after a spark FADC.

Pick ultra 1 against blanka, because it punishes his balls.

Other rose stuffs

cl.mk is throw invincible. This means it really fucks up with characters like abel, gief, hakan and Travis Hawk.

Her back throw has an odd property:

If YOU are in the corner and backthrow your opponent into the corner, then you can forward dash and j.hp and it will cross up.

If THEY are in the corner, and you backthrow them out of it, then you can dash forward and j.hp will cross up.

That doesn't work midscreen for some mad reason.

cr.hp is up there with sim's knee as an anti-air.

far st.hp is an ok anti-divekick button.

I once beat donut's rufus using nothing but fwd+hk. Rufus hates that button at midrange. Abuse it.

Against the majority of characters soul spark is horrible and is best used mainly at fullscreen range.

Yay Camel! Come join the rllmuk Rose club. Haggar has provided some serious goods there, but I'll add my thoughts:

Slide (df+mk) is really good if spaced properly. Good for setting up throws on the ground or sliding under jump-ins to throw them on landing.

Far st.hk and f+hk are good pokes, and f+hk can sometimes anti-air from long range (and I think you can juggle Super afterwards as a fun bit of style, never tried this). Maybe it'll be more useful in Ultra when spark recovery is better. Far st.mk is also a great poke.

As Haggar mentioned, Soul Spark is mainly pretty bad, only the lp and EX versions are much use. Outside of projectile battles, EX Spark can sometimes be useful at close range to beat abuse of focus attacks, if you don't want to risk a Spiral.

Spirals are funny and I certainly don't know the optimum one to use different times, but as a rule of thumb cr.lp xx lk Spiral, cr.mp xx mp Spiral, and cr.hp xx hk Spiral all work as punishes, depending on how much time you have (the first one is 3 frames and can be useful if you don't have the links down).

As haggar mentioned, after cr.lp cr.lp cr.lk cr.mp you need an EX Spiral, but from point blank range cr.lp cr.lk cr.mp xx mk Spiral will connect.

I like doing cr.hp xx hp reflect as a meaty on opponent's wakeup - on hit you can easily react with FADC soul throw (not worth the meter, literally don't care), and although it's -7 on block it has a bit of pushback so can make it tricky to punish. This will probably get you killed against good players.

She doesn't really have many other practical FADC uses, although I'm aware EX Spark FADC Ultra 1 is a thing.

Ultra 2 is obviously the fun one. If they're scared and blocking in the corner, Level 3 focus is a VERY BAD GIMMICK but I still like to try it once in a while for fun. Throw mixups are better. Also, there are a bunch of cross-up mixups using different strength Soul Throws after a hard knockdown, but they differ depending on how you got the knockdown, and they're also character specific. Hard work.

Obviously her EX moves are very useful, but if you're absorbing lots of fireballs or winning without having to spend the meter, then you can have fun with super. Spiral xx Super does good damage (and increases if you've absorbed fireballs), also does a decent chunk of chip.

Oh, and Alt costume 1 is unsafe on aesthetics. Use 2 or 3.
