Surely you'd have to go with Roses's close forward, for the invulnerability to throws, going over lows and general combo setuppyness.

Also, what about one of dhalsim's jumping normals? I agree that sakura's jumping fierce is stupid, but we've already got absurd jumpins covered with seth's divekick and roundhouse. How about we add in dhalsim's jumping fierce. Even if it's only jump-back fierce.

Also I think you might have got vega's close and far standing shorts confused? It's his far one that has wild frame advantage and is amazing for pestering. I'd go for vega far short and bipson close short.

I might also take cody's crouch short for the range on it.

And I want Adon's far standing roundhouse.

Yeah I got the Vega ones the wrong way round. I'd take your solution there as Bison's close short is a good shout and I love seeing it used in combos. Makoto's is good too. I would have picked Adon's roundhouse but I'm obviously biased towards Chun's because I get such mileage out of it. Cody's short was on the short(ha!) list, but I like the pressure and mashability of Guy's. I was torn on jump fierce. Was considering Chun, Rose, 'Sim, Dee jay, Makoto, Dudley, Honda or Balrog for air to air dominance because the Seth dive kick does indeed have broken jump ins covered. You could easily do another character and switch out almost every one of those picks and still have it be too good though.

Rose close MK was a big oversight, that move is ridiculous and the unique properties definitely sell it. I like Ken's close MK combos a lot and let it cloud my judgment. Ibuki's was on the shortlist there too.

Oh, and Dhalsim's short slide because that spot is still free so why not. Blanka's slide too!

No Bison, Honda, Blanka, Guile, Gief, Makoto, Akuma, Gen and plenty of other expected candidates in there surprisingly. Might try and do one with a one move from each character limit to mix it up a bit more. Yes, this is the slowest work day ever.

Mm, I thought one or two of Gief's standing normal punches were supposed to be great anti-airs and stopped a whole bunch of stuff, but there's probably a load of new tech that I'm oblivious to... :(

Oh yeah, throw in Rufus' dive kick of course. Fucking dive kicks.

Gief's far standing medium punch is very good indeed. Close is good too. Buffered far standing short is good, his low jab has amazing range. Jumping medium kick is hard to anti-air, jump fierce has excellent range, splash is ridiculous, jumping short knees is a winner too. His far roundhouse is good as well. Gief has a fine array of buttons. Ted Hawk has a smattering of good buttons as well.

Other shortlisted ones:

Far standing medium kick: Bison, Sagat, Dhalsim, Dan, Gouken, Seth, Gen.

Crouching medium punch: Gen (both stances) Guy, Makoto, Vega, Ibuki, Blanka, Ryu, Juri, Rufus. Wide range of options from counter hits to long range buffering, punishing or anti-airs.

Crouching fierce: Makoto, Gouken, Oni, Evil Ryu, Ryu, Juri, Fei Long, Blanka, Guy. Loads of good ones. If you put your anti-airs elsewhere you could give up Sakura's and have Fei's as an amazing Poke, Makoto's fast and safe sweep, Guy's for counter hits and links etc.

Far standing fierce: Chun, Oni, Akuma

Crouching roundhouse: Gen (both stances actually, though the sweep is the more godlike of the two), Chun, Akuma, Dee Jay, Balrog, Guy, Vega, Rose, Fuerte. All good for varying reasons. Slides, safety, ability to cancel, massive range etc.

Close standing roundhouse: Vega, Chun, Dudley, Dan, Ryu, Balrog.

Far standing roundhouse: Adon, Bison, Akuma, Guile, Honda, T. Hawk, Yang, Gouken, Cody, Cammy.

Jump roundhouse: Rufus, Gen, Dudley, Cody, Chun, Viper.

Jump fierce: Vega, Bison, Cody, Ken, Ryu, Rufus, Elf.

Neutral jump mk: Adon, Sagat.

Neutral jump roundhouse: Chun, Juri, Fei.

Thinking about it, Gen could cover pretty much every spot. Jumping double roundhouse, excellent air to air jump fierce, ambiguous jumping MKs, crazy sweep, great crouching MPs, 3f stand jab, close MP great for counter hits etc. etc.

Guile has plenty of worthy buttons too, but just got edged out at every turn.

Too many command normals to mention. I only went with Dudley's overhead for the combo/teleport potential. If not for that it would have to be Sagat's for the speed and the sweet, sweet satisfacion. Guile's upside down kick was tempting too.

Taunt: Blanka's "ooh I'm scared" wiggly fingers one.
Air taunt: Dan
Crouching taunt: Dan
Command taunt: Dudley

Shortlist: Most of Dan's, most of Dhalsim's, Zangief's big scary bear, Bison's sparkly hands one, Vega's dismissive chuckle, Adon's fireball hopper, Dee Jay's point and laugh, Rufus' I'm so cool.

Too many to mention really, there are so many good ones. None of them are Ryu's, though.

I also like Yang's hopping one just because it looks great when focus taunting. Dhalsim's great stretching arc of a taunt is hard to ignore when picking a favourite, too, as is Hakan's "you're going to mess up my hair!"

I discovered last night that my Ryu taunt is set to "none". Not sure if I did it when feeling hilarious and just didn't remember or you did it when visiting. Maybe Ryu did it himself.

Ha, that wasn't me. It freaks me out when people turn taunts off on tournament set ups. I tend to finish my button check by doing grab, focus, taunt, and when taunt doesn't come out I think my stick is broken every single time. At Teesports there were more Makoto players than at any other tourney I've been to and they always turn it off so as to avoid messing up hayate cancels/purely to mess with me.

My FT10 at the next SFO is booked now. Me vs TSCooler, FT10, Sak vs Chun, character locked. TEN ENGLISH POUNDS on the line. My first money match. Hype.

Also got a tournament lined up in February, hosted by the Edge Hill Uni fighting game society, and still planning to go to Hypespotting in March. Wonder how long I can keep this one tournament per month streak going. It's oddly proving to be a bit of a money saver because my travel/food/entry cost is usually less than what I'd be spending on a Saturday night out in Leeds, plus I'll take it a bit easier on the Friday before it because I have to get up early. I might as well fully embrace the Ryu lifestyle and stop buying shoes as well to maximise my savings.

Team PIE is such an excellent team. All using middle or low tier characters and putting in ungodly amounts of work. Smug is the one getting most of the attention, but Zeus' Vega and Chin's Cody are both outstanding as well. Zeus frequently does stuff with Vega that shouldn't be possible; winning horror match ups and staging ridiculous comebacks from a character whose mix up game is decidedly average. I love his response to Rufus/Cammy pressure in particular. He takes risks to get out of it but he knows that if he sits there and tries to defend it by blocking/teching it's a matter of time before he gets opened up. Best Vega in the U.S. though Chris King is the only realistic contender.

Spooky has put the NEC teams matches on his youtube channel now and I'd definitely recommend watching it. Some fantastic performances from team PIE, Snake Eyes and Nuckledu in particular. Amusing bit of drama too as you can see where the little Smug/PR Rog rivalry got started.

Oh, and I loved seeing Lud handing out some whuppings with USF4 Chun. Such a great player and I hope the Chun buffs see him placing higher in tournaments as he totally deserves it.

Ha, I had started to do a worst of and Cammy's close standing roundhouse was the first on the list. Abel, Fuerte and Viper have a bunch of rubbish normals but I'd have to play as them a bit to refresh my memory and pick my favourites. Abel's standing MK is definitely one of them though. Seth's belly flop, and a couple of 'Sim's air normals that hit at an angle where even if the opponent tries their hardest to get hit they'll rarely connect. Gief's crouching medium punch is terrible too. Dan's sweep and Honda's sweep are both candidates. Oh, and Gouken's crouching medium kick is useless.

There's enough people playing Super to leech a few points off, aye. And reaching B rank is just a grind, since losses don't have enough of an impact to make a difference to your progress. I guess I'll try learn Yun and Yang now so I don't go in a huff when I get them in random select.

Astounding work Joffles.

Haggmond, yes, there are still people hosting ranked matches who let you play either AE or Super.

I've spent quite a bit of time learning Yang and I still get in a huff when I get him in random select, because I'll invariably lose and then pick him for the next five games, losing all of them whilst bemoaning his lack of damage. Still love him though, the little scamp.

Yang's hair flick taunt is also one of the best :)

Right, I'm evaluating AE on PC. It picks up my stick fine, and I can map the buttons but not the directions on the stick :(

I'll do some more hardcore googling later, but just wondered if anyone here had this issue and managed to resolve it.

Have you fiddled with lock button?

Have you fiddled with lock button?

Its a PS360+ PCB, which can actually be switched between PS3 and 360 modes as you plug it in. Natrually, Windows 7 refuses to recognise it in 360 mode.

Donut, try x360ce: I can't for the life of me remember how I got it set up but it's the only thing that helped me: https://code.google.com/p/x360ce/

Once it's set up you have to start the game, then alt-tab out and start x360ce, then alt-tab back and you should be set. I think.

Ta! I'll check it out.
