Ultra Street Fighter IV

I think I'd still prefer it if they'd nerfed character specific vortex options rather than adding delayed wake up. I think getting a good set up off a hard knockdown is fair reward, so long as you can't get said knockdown over and over again, or by relentlessly throwing out a virtually unpunishable sweep until it hits.

I wonder what they have in mind as an indicator that someone is using delayed wake up too. I feel like that's something that needs location testing as soon as possible because it'll take some tweaking. Tough to find a balance between sign-posting it too much and the defending player being unsure that it's worked.

I saw it being used against hungbee in one of the earlier videos and it totally merc'd tristan hawk's setups from jab spd. Hardly seems fair that he's the one being mixed up.

Asuming the unblockables fix works, all they'd need to do was take a hatchet to akuma's sweep, nerf cammy's divekick hitboxes/hitstun, delete rufus and remove ibuki's forwards jump.

Combofiend mentioned (during a commentary) that they're looking at a colour flash on the character when delayed wakeup is used, but the flash will only happen as you're getting up. This will mean the delayed wakeup isn't actually broadcast to the opponent when it's used, but the flash indicator will let the opponent know that you do use delayed wakeup, and inform on your tendencies.

I thought that sounded fair.

Exactly, it's a system wide change that hurts a lot of characters who don't deserve it when the vortex characters could be nerfed individually.

The location tests have allayed some of my fears about Wultras though. I still think that if a feature is so stupid you're balancing it by crippling the damage then maybe it's not a necessary feature, but as it stands it seems like it'll benefit the characters it needs to and will be ignored by everybody else. Gief, for example, should still just pick one of them I reckon. Balrog, on the other hand, is a decent candidate for picking Wultra in some match ups because his U1 is more about the utility and corner carry than the raw damage, so keeping most of that ultra's usefulness and also having the high stun grab ultra for punishes is a nice option for him. In Balrog mirrors, for instance, it makes a great deal of sense to pick both.

EDIT: That seems like a reasonable way to handle the delayed wake up indicator yeah.

Did anyone else pick up when Combofiend was describing the mechanics of Wultra what he said about the damage?

60% damage isn't universal. The damage will be character specific. The examples he gave were that Zangief, who gets great utility from both Ultras, will have them both at 60% for Wultra. However, a character like Ryu, who only has great utility for Ultra 1, will have something like 90% damage on Ultra 1 and much lower damage for Ultra 2 when selecting Wultra.

I'm sure that the first thing that lots of men will do is spend time in their bedrooms coming up with setups to use against delayed wakeup, anyway. Resets will be the new vortex, anyway, so sakura will probably still be alright.

Ryu bipson is going to get worse for ryu, too, since he can't just os bipson's entire suite of wakeup options with lk tatsu for free any more.

It's definitely going to shake up all the tier lists that people have spent appreciable chunks of their lives debating on internet forums. Which will be nice.

Yeah he did mention that. I think that ties in with what I'm saying above, where for some characters they've done that precisely to discourage you from picking Wultra at all. I think adjusting it on a per character basis is the only sensible way to do it in fact, if they insist on having them at all.

If 'Sim, for example, gets to keep most of the damage on both, then he should pick Wultra. However, if Gief had close to 100% damage on both it would be beyond stupid. It's either adjust the damage on a per character basis or make it that some characters can pick Wultra and some can't at all.

I didn't hear him say that. How completely ludicrous. What's the point? I'd rather just go for a 100% ultra 1, since what's the point of spending ultra bar on a gimped ultra 2?

That's what I thought as soon as he said it. I'm not hating on Wultra, it's an interesting idea. However, what Combofiend said does make it sound like they're having trouble balancing their own mechanic.

I'm not saying they are. It just sounds like it to me.

They undoubtedly are having trouble balancing it, with Gief as the prime example because his ultras are quite obviously not meant to be available to him at the same time and were designed with the one or the other option in mind.

Maybe just allowing some characters to have multiple ultras like Gen would have been smarter. When Wultras were first announced I did think "that's a stupid idea, but Dhalsim and one or two others could totally have that option and it would be a welcome buff rather than a game breaker", but if you're going to give it to everybody then there is some very tricky balancing to be done. The damage nerf has done that job for Gief though, as Snake Eyes landing U1 in Wultra mode meant that it barely did more than a fierce SPD anyway, so full ultra 1 or 2 would be a much better pick than watered down Wultras.

Yeah, there are currently certain match ups where Ultra 2 is incredibly useful for 'Sim but he can't pick it because Ultra 1 is possibly the best utility ultra in the game and he can't afford to give it up. Against Bison, Rog and other characters who like to pressure with safe horizontal attacks, the threat of TK ultra 2 would be a huge plus for him.

RELEASE DATEZ

Early June for DLC on console, August for standalone and DLC on PC.

Next up is the release date information for Ultra Street Fighter IV. Right now, we are hard at work to bring the game to all of our fans as soon as possible, and want to ensure there is enough time that players can practice to compete at Evolution 2014. As such, the digital upgrade will be available in early June for $14.99 (€14.99) on PS3 and Xbox 360. Following shortly after in August, is the digital upgrade for PC at $14.99 (€14.99), as well as the PS3 and Xbox360 full digital bundle and retail versions, which include all previously-released costumes for $39.99 (€39.99). Since our PC fans have to wait longer for the content, we have a special deal where they can get the full digital bundle including all of the previously-released costumes for only $29.99 (€29.99), also in August. Apologies to our PC fans, as we did want to release simultaneously, but this was the only way that we could ensure that Ultra Street Fighter IV would be included in the largest fighting game tournament in the world.

So in the meantime, make it out to one of the location tests or Capcom Cup to try out Ultra Street Fighter IV and be sure to check back here to Unity for the latest updates on the new exciting content coming to Ultra Street Fighter IV.

Curleh Mustache battle royale 2, a bunch of money matches, USF4 demo, and of course tournaments for a bunch of games.

I'll be missing it all and catching up probably some time in January when people stop throwing lame christmas parties.

Also apparently the WOOOORLD CYBERRR GAAAAMES happened the other weekend. If you're anything like me then there's at least one commentator that you just hate, and it annoys you whenever they're on the mic despite them probably actually not being as bad as you think, in which case you may want to skip to about 2h50 in this archive for the last couple of matches of the tournament just so you can find out what genuinely atrocious street fighter commentary really sounds like:

I would pick out some highlights, but I can't choose a favourite.

Well, that was one of the least fun ranked evenings I've ever had. I'm saltier than the salt-baked pineapple that David made on Masterchef.

Hugely in favour of Ultra at Evo, though. It'd be ridiculous to stick with 2012: unless Capcom genuinely fuck it up and one character is completely broken, it's still SFIV, and it'll be amazing to see new tech being shown off on the big stage. There's always Evo 2015 if you want to see the type of competition we saw this year.

I'm also quite excited about the World Cup draw tomorrow. I wish more Street Fighter tournaments would use group formats and seedings and pots and single elimination. And more leagues like Topanga. Really, I wish there was a national Street Fighter league setup like the football one. Is that too much to ask? Yes, obviously.

You should do hard punch because it takes loads of energy. T. Hawk is the best player cos his moves take loads of energy. Last night when I was playing it I did a cheat code so I could be Super Seth. He's the secret boss and he has a special move that's dead hard to do but I have a cheat book and I'm dead skill at this game. When you do it it takes all their energy. I can't tell you the cheat code to be him cos my brother's friend's dad who made the game told me it and told me not to tell anyone. He's getting me Streetfighter 5 next week but you can't come and play it cos it's only one player.

Also, WiiU people, add me on the WiiU-nets!

It's got 200 players in it. You can be Scorpion from Mortal Kombat and do death moves but only if you know the blood cheat. I know it but my mum said not to tell you it cos I'm more grown up than you. I'm going to my friend's house to watch Star Wars 7 this week. He's got it on pirate. You don't know him but his dad is rich and his house is dead good and he has quad bikes.
