Ultra Street Fighter IV

How was everyone else's weekend? Do any good combos and special moves and that?

On Saturday, I comboed 'spending a whole morning taking my son to his music lessons' into 'spending the rest of the day at his club's Taekwondo tournament'. On Sunday I shamelessly spammed 'doing sod all because I'm bloody knackered'. I did watch The Descent though which was excellent and I drank some Zinne Bir, which was also excellent.

Alistarr, I will get round to writing something about our epic FT10 soon. I'm still recovering.

Yeah sorry I had to dash Joe, though your Rose is a very nasty lady. GGS to Haggar we had some close randoms there and some not so close ones :) and some how I managed to win a match with Makoto which is well unheard of.

I did have a ranked match earlier, only one and it was an Elf mirror which went to the wire. I think he was better than me and I only managed to beat him with a randomish super in the final round

I'm so looking forward to play Ultra just for the size mismatch between Hugo and Elf

I had a brilliant set against joffo where there was a wild sequence of matches where each time I seemd about to clinch the match, I made a ludicrous mistake and was punished for it. Or he just obesely ultra 1'd through a fireball. Also it seems I can connect to people now, somehow. Which is nice.

Also geegs to plopboy and joe. I've forgotten what I'm supposed to be doing with ryu v rose, other than entirely stuffing her wakeup with cl.hk.

Haha, I couldn't figure that out, because I wasn't using wakeup EX spiral at first. "It's not an overhead, why does he keep... OHHH that's clever"

So are any of you rabble off to hegg's film night on Thursday?

I would be there but can't do Thursdays because of dad responsibilities :(

Does anyone fancy a seriaas FTwhatever at some point over the next week or so? I really enjoyed playing Ali* and would like more.

I'm going! Hahahahahaha.

Hmm.

Haggar it would be brilliant to see you, and any other London folk who fancy an evening out. The pub does great Italian American 'street food', we're screening the new blu-ray version of the film which isn't out to buy yet, and I'm going to have a little table full of books and some prints of the Invasion poster that a friend made especially for the night. He's a proper designer and everything.

I'm pretty nervous that nobody will turn up, and that I'll say something stupid when I introduce the film (which I think is something I have to do). In general I'd prefer to hide in the dark at the back, shout at everyone to shut up at 7:45 and press play. Done.

But honestly Haggar it'll be great, I'll get drunk and be much friendlier than that I'm sure.

Been catching up on some of the Topanga A League stuff lately. I said a while back that the top Japanese Oni players have yet to show just how good they are in tournaments, so it's been excellent watching Wao do just that. He stole the show in the B League and now he's doing work against the cream of the crop as well. His execution occasionally lets him down but everything else about his game is immaculate. Amazing player. Here he is against Bonchan, who has to be one of the top 10 SF4 players in the world:

If you don't fancy watching all of it, at the very least watch the first round. The quality doesn't drop any after that, it's just amazing how early into the set you see such incredible clutch play.

Also I am going to be stealing so many of Wao's gimmicks. Cr. mk - > FADC - > stomp to close out a round. Dirty, dirty bastard. So many great little moments too. Wao's signature tick walk up demon, Bonchan shutting down EX slash with Sagat's overhead, Bonchan's comeback in round 1. Wao's meaty set ups and wheel of mix ups. I loved the meaty cr. mp (blocked) followed by step back into cr. jab xx EX tatsu. Oni's very own Gootecks shimmy. Oh, and finishing the set with unblockable OS ultra is just cruel.

Yes. yes. Everyone watch that video. So very good. Especially the excited reactions of Japanese Sue Perkins and Japanese 1970s Dustin Hoffman.

Also good games against Samuel yesterday. I only won plenty of matches because Dan kept being Dan.

I didn't know the japanese version called Oni something else; the announcer sounds like he's saying "good old cheeky Oni wins", which is just wonderful.

The worst stage is the volcano one. Every time someone picks Akuma and then chooses the volcanic rim stage I visualize their Linkin Park posters and have a wee laugh in my own fat old belly.
