Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

I can access this wee place in work today and it's all wordless and repetitive admin work. Someone type some nonsense about Street Fighter. I'll be home at around half past four for some brief Street Fighter too, if y'all wanna "throw down" or whatever. I know all of Dan's special moves.

Been in training. Second day of attempting it, but managed to pull USD kick > cr.MP > FK a handful of times.

Good god the timing is hard. Forcing yourself to wait until the last frame of recovery on cr.MP before cancelling is tougher than it sounds.

Just starting to pull FK > FADC > Sonic Hurricane with a little consistancy.

About 25% consistancy.

I said a little.

I'm bored.

Mary Popping Off

This reminds me, I saw a video of Adelheid Stark beating some dude 3-0 at Evo. The top comment was "Mary Boppins", which pleased me greatly.

I am too tired for the pub so I plan to play children's games all evening, probably including both Fighting Dollies IV and Sweary Teenage Americana V.

Some more excellent games with Mr Ig earlier; an immediate big difference saw me punched in the face thoroughly for four consecutive matches before I found my footing. Switched to Ultra 2 this time to see how it feels against Guile since focus crumple was the only time I was getting any Ultra 1 since he recovers so quickly from Sonic Boom. Got a few off in the corner after a close medium punch x lk.dan kick. Felt a bit more comfortable with the timing but I did still miss one. I tried to land an odd crossup lk.dankick setup since if they're crouch blocking and don't see it'll crossup you can land Ultra 2 if you recover in time. Never managed it though.

Got smashed up for a lot of the set and it was good.

I did indeed get sidetracked by Whedon (Much Ado About FADC Nothing) and Volgarr (I finished the first level and the game is good) and then the Stanley Parable demo (actual tears of laughter at one point, though that may have been partly through exhaustion). But I feel tomorrow morning or evening or night I may be around for some fighting and would love to get some practice in with any of you fine people. Oh, and if people are going to Play Expo then shout up with frequent progress reports!

Alas, this afternoon I'm mending windows and painting hallways, otherwise I'd be going to Play Expo (which I just saw is actually right round the corner from my old house) to cheer on JLM and give him tips on how to beat Andreas, but if I get away early then I'll look out for you!

Bracket:

http://challonge.com/capcomcupuk

SFO JLM is in first round match AU, if he wins then potentially fighting Hadoshrooms and then if he wins that it's Ixion! Man. There are a lot of amazing players in the bracket though. Looks like the UK really turned out for it.

SFO watch: Benners has a feasible-looking bracket with Imstilldadaddy being the standout, and he knows the Guile matchup. Tyson has White Daigo in game one. Ghost and Sprint are fighting each other first game! Don't know who SFO Inferno Kong is but if he wins then he has Alioune in game two. Actually there are a bunch of SFO names I don't recognise.

JLM wins second game 2-0!

Ixion's doing well against Hawk, playing carefully, fair amount of LK knee pressure still though, not sure the Hawk knows enough about the matchup. Oh wait he finally SPDed one. Ohhhh but then got hit by ultra 1 and died.

JLM vs Ixion let's goooooooooo (don't think it's on stream though, Alioune up next vs SFO Inferno Kong (who sadly I don't think I recognise)).

Oh man. Amazing. The lk.knee being safe is down to timing and spacing. Plus if your opponent blocks it standing it hits higher and earlier so they'll have more time to punish you so ideally you want it to hit late on a crouch block to keep up the frame trap pressure afterward.

I'm excited about Jellum versus Ixion maybe happening.

SFO Benners vs Imstilldadaddy next on stream, should be good as Benners fights Domihy Guile all the time. But then I suppose each Sagat vs Guile round lasts about four hours so you don't have to play many games to be playing it pretty much constantly.

JLM vs Ixion I think must be offstream.

Yeah, bracket says JLM 0 - 2 Ixion.

Well, he was saying beforehand that he really wanted to at least get some casuals in with Ixion if he showed up, so I guess tournament games are even better. And winning first two games, as well as being awesome in its own right, means you skip a whole lot of losers bracket nonsense. If I had to guess, I'd say his next opponent will probably be goukifafa, but he might have a bit of a wait for it.

White Daigo vs Imstilldadadddy now. White Daigo is apparently so called not due to his skill level, which is high, but because he will uppercut anything.

JLM vs goukifafa as predicted up shortly off stream.
