Hello folks. I done a silly thing.

I felt like watching some Excellent Adventures this evening. Recently I've seen some quite amusing results from Youtube's automatic captioning, so I thought I'd turn it on and see the results. Here's what happened in the first four episodes.

First off, thanks for the links Imp!

Second, Zhi - his commentary was embarrassing, and at times offensive. During the Daigo match he kept making jokes about abortions! Someone needs to have a fucking word with the guy, because shit like that will keep the game, and the community, from growing. Why would a woman watching that ever tune back in, you know?

He's a knowledgeable guy, so stick with that and quit with the 'wisecracks'.

Um, yeah...so the actual fightings were unbelievably good, I thought. There's been more today right? I'm off to find clips..

Haha my hateful Akuma friend who beats me for free all the time despite offering me good advice - and who picked up Cammy a few months ago - is now playing Yang, so I guess that's Yang confirmed as top tier in USF4.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle turned up today and it is mental as Imp's previous video showed

I've been playing the lady with the blue buns and she has a rather nice crouching kick into legs type confirm which is nice and I not sure how but if you have meter and your persona type chappy out and do legs my persona type chappy started throwing baseballs for massive damage. She also has a spider man type ultra.

You can see here at about 40s in this youtube trailer

I played through story mode with her which was only three fights but the final fight was against a dood who could slow down you attacks forcing you to dodge with x and then get in your quickest moves, not that tough but it did end in two time outs :)

It is mental but really well presented but there is a lot of text which I'm hopeless at understanding so I'm sure I'm missing out on a lot. Manual is nice though and is in full colour with move sets.

I love the fact that one of the confirmation options is ' Yes! Yes! Yes!'.

Yis! All they had to do was give him his crossup back and I would have been happy but it's looking far better now!

Yeah echoed that Zhi kills the mood for those otherwise excellent sets. Down syndrome jokes too. He can fuck off frankly.

FT = First To. FT5 = First To 5 (wins)

Yeah, thanks. Figured that out while we watched it and felt a bit thick.

The Daigo Infiltration one was pretty cool. Daigo was pulling off a few things I didn't even know were possible. EX fireball into Utra was bloody hilarious.

He was also using his Tatsu to try to catch Infiltration on wakeup. I thought SRK takes priority, though?

EX Fireball FADC works anywhere on screen. You don't need the FADC in the corner though.

Tatsu's a mixup because it might hit in front or behind, and if Infiltration chooses back teleport (which is Akuma's best escape option on wakeup) it'll catch him at the end of it.

I fell asleep in front of the FT10 last night, infuriatingly, but what I saw was excellent. I think this whiffing normals to set up safe jumps is getting a bit silly now, though, think Infiltration was doing jab-jab-strong or something daft like that. Loss of style points for that imo.

SRK will beat tatsu, but it's unsafe if Ryu just sits and waits, so Akuma's best wakeup option is often to teleport backwards which will get him away from the usual pressure options without leaving him at risk if Ryu does nothing. However, if Ryu guesses that Akuma's not going to uppercut (because of the risk) and so is likely to teleport backwards, Ryu can dash forward and tatsu to chase it down which means Akuma has to guess a bit more about what to do. In one of the previous Daigo/Infiltration matches, Daigo tried to use his ultra in the same manner as he used tatsu in this match, but Infiltration countered by teleporting towards Ryu instead, which would be really risky if Ryu just sat and waited to punish but in this case was the perfect read.

It's basically a question of your opponent knowing what your best option is and then doing something to make it not be your best option any more. But then next time the situation comes up (or later in the game's life cycle when everyone knows a certain amount about each situation) you know about that counter-tactic so something else becomes your best option by default, so then your opponent has to work out what to do about that. And then it goes round in circles and sometimes, as you say, your original best option - that you don't normally dare do any more because of the risk involved - might actually be the best option again sometimes because your opponent no longer expects you to do it at all.

The Glasgow tournament in October has suffered from a lack of sales and so downsized from the hotel conference room venue to their usual sparring joint at internet cafe place One Level Up in St Enoch's square. A shame for them, since King of Irn Fist is an excellent name. I'm gonna be at a wedding anyway.

That Sagat mirror match was absolutely excellent. I'm so jealous of people who can use projectiles well.

Also, I'm another person utterly infuriated by that Zhi commentary. Even without the offensive nature of some of those metaphors you'd still have been enduring line after line of incredibly flimsy wordplay where he'd insist on taking that train of thought further despite it clearly not working in the first place. Mike Ross politely laughing along, like a man he barely knows telling him jokes in a lift.

Zhi has such potential as a commentator too. I'm assuming he's pretty young, which would imply that as time goes on he will mature as a commentator and his technical knowledge will still shine through without the need for the try-hard metaphors and "funny" stuff.

Can't guarantee that it's age though, I have no idea how old he actually is; Googling for "How old is Zhi" tells me that he died over 1800 years ago at the age of 40.

JLM, Alistarr are you guys going to the Manchester tourny on Saturday?

I don't know if I can make it - partly because I went 0-2 in Leeds last month and after resolving to practice more I've played a total of about three hours of Street Fighter so I'm going to be even worse :-( but more importantly because I've booked a long weekend off work to spend with my partner and I'm not sure she's into fighting games enough yet to enjoy the prospect of attending a tournament!

I will post up if things change. I might go along just to support JLM in which case I'll definitely give you advance warning to look out for me.

My friend and I were raging about it yesterday. He basically tries to be James Chen and fails miserably.
