Gotta love random mid screen ultras hoping to catch a poke. I heard you yelling over the mic! Sorry!

Had a full, uninterrupted evening of fightings today. Did ranked with Chun, lost one, won eight, PP score where it was when I started. Still good practise though. Had a long set against a Yun player and lost 7-4, which isn't bad going against that bastard. Possibly Chun's worst match up that.

After that I had 16 games of Dudley mirrors against Mr. Kimokoan and lost 10-6. Again, pretty happy with that, what with him being my Dudley hero and all.

Outside of those longer sets I played lots of random folks for varying lengths of time, mostly using Evil Ryu. DOn't think there's a character I'm enjoying using more than him at this moment in time.

Lastly, finished off with some fun games against Allistarr and Mr. Samuel. GGs fellows.

My Chemical Romansfield.

Sorry.

Me and Jonster played more Divekick on Steam the other day; it got cut short a bit due to lag (usually it's pretty silky even with my notoriously bad connection) but it was still pretty epic. I've only just started trying Redacted with the Dive gem and it's very good indeed, although I think Mr. N is still my go-to for most matches. Kenny and S. Kill mirrors are still as entertaining as ever, and I still want a replay channel (trying to record realtime with Fraps would probably see the ping go through the roof...)

I may be online this evening for some kind of fighting :)

That Sanford Kelly vs Smug match was just fantastic. Ended up watching a few other matches afterward and it was all quite entertaining apart from "Yolo stupid put that in your pocket asshole combos we got those yolo yolo yolo stupid".

Also, I've actually gone and ordered that GTAV videogame. The online doesn't get switched on til next month anyway, right?

I watched that last night as well! Also some of the Amsterdam Shadowloo Showdown qualifiers -

basically just to see Louffy's lovely Rose winning with ease, although the match against his mate Perplex's Rufus was good fairly close stuff. I have been reading Filipinoman's posts about Rose U2 setups on Facebook, I will hopefully put some of them into practice soon.

I guess this is the best place to ask without getting unreasonably argumentative answers: are the differences in online play between xbox360 and ps3 as dramatic as some people like to make out? Or are the main issues to do with a lack of cross-game party chat as standard on PSN (plus the fact less people chat on PSN in general due to the headset not being bundled/americans loving their own voices more)? Have any of you had a noticably inferior experience when playing PS3 online versus 360?

Basically I'm all in for PS4 despite the wild Xbone turnaround but Microsoft's cloud hype and talk of dedicated servers for games like CoD makes me wonder if there might be a bit of a gulf in the consistency of the online experience on the next couple o' consoles.

I bet there's no point even wondering since there aren't really any variables in a fighting game you'd need to track via cloud servers and I'll likely play mostly those but what if I somehow found myself interested in an amazing MMO version of Blast Corps with all the ligering rubble that would involve? Does anyone think Microsoft seemingly huge investment in wild infrastructure might leave the PS4 experience a little limited? Or am I just being tricked by marketing patter in exactly the way they hoped I'd be?

Doct' Airdrie.

Plopboy, I think that's partly down to lots more people using wireless connections on PS3 because the wireless adapter is built in, which is going to be a problem whichever console you go with next time around.

I've had the noticeably inferior experience that hardly any of my friends play on PS3. Other than that it's just really annoying that they don't have cross-game chat. Stuff like Portal 2 kills your chat connection while it's loading, for example. Then you decide to play a different game and have to call each other on the telephone to complain about how long the unnecessary new patch is taking to install, because your headsets are useless until you've got into a lobby in the new game.

I would wait and see, to be honest.

I do hope that's something they sort out in the next load of consoles. Having to wait for an hour while some shit thing downloads and installs, because you haven't turned your xboxen on for 3 months and now you and your friend are sat there silently on your sofa watching a progress bar very slowly inch its way across the screen and you're not sure if it's going so slowly because of your frankly embarrassing internert connection or maybe it's just really large for some unknown reason even though you know full well that when it's installed the dashboard will basically look exactly the same and all you'll ever really do is click the 'play streetfighter 4 button' anyway, is pretty much the worst thing about this generation.

Dedicated servers will be most important in the first couple of weeks. Very few games with online modes launch with enough server capacity to support high player counts because they know that things taper off after a fortnight and there's no point paying up for loads of servers that you won't need. With dedicated servers you can just scale up and down according to demand.

I can only assume that fighting games will continue to be PvP, I don't really see how dedicated servers can help (though I'll happily be proven wrong on that), so there won't be much of a difference between the two consoles in that regard. For games with large simultaneous player counts dedicated servers will be especially important at launch but in the long run it *shouldn't* make a vast amount of difference.

You know what doesn't get played enough? Third Strike. My friend and I had an absolute blast playing it yesterday despite the fact that we were both abysmal. I don't think there's a better feeling in Street Fighter than parrying and then punishing, apart from maybe when you do it intentionally. As usual, SFIV's leniency really hit home as it took me ages to be able to do a standing 360. We tried online but there are only grand masters hanging about now.

Thanks for all the excellent answers. I think I would agree with the idea that it's just a matter of what your friends are playing on. Which is gonna be PS4, right? Right? I'm looking forward to the social side of things and sharing videos of matches/combos in the OS. It'll be great just to see Jellum's science in direct feed, basically.

What do y'all think fighting games should do in future to better accomodate large lobbies of friends? Other than all fighting games from now on being Powerstone 3. Some Saltybet style credits to mess around with for fun, betting on winners, or most used buttons or who blocks most etc with varying odds based on player stats would be kinda fun. I don't really like the idea of players being taken away from the match in progess since the audience is a wonderful thing. Picture-in-picture training mode maybe? Drawing cocks on the screen?

Ooh, does PS4 mean that we can watch tournament streams over Twitch whilst sharing musings over party chat? Then again, last time I tried that on 360 (streaming the Bone event) everyone was seconds ahead or behind me thanks to buffering... :(

Not sure what you guys are talking about - I'm getting a Wii U.

The biggest change I'd go for in lobbies is a round-robin option alongside the winner-stays-on that is currently our only choice. And obviously a quick rematch button for two-player lobbies. And online training mode options.

These are all things they could do in USF4 if they really wanted, of course.

I hate PlayStation controllers so much. It's the only real sticking point for me. Aside from the FUCKING UPDATES, the main reason I never use my PS3 is my hatred for the controller. When I'm playing anything at all that isn't a fighting game I'd rather be doing it on an Xbox pad than a PlayStation one. For FPS games in particular I cannot stand using those stupidly positioned analogue sticks. That said, I play fighting games 95% of the time anyway, and if all the best fighting and all my fighting game pals are on PS4 then I'll go with that.

Yeah, that would do the trick too. I forget that third party pads aren't all irredeemably shit any more. I'm still not used to Mad Catz being known for high quality products either and I've been using one of them for four years. I will use the code AGEDood and get 15% off.
