Balrog is unbelievably annoying. Not sure whether I'm happy or not that I never play people who use him - no chance to get good against him.

Just had a few good matches on Ranked. Should be able to hit C rank soon enough. It's amazing what a difference the slightest bit of slowdown has, though.

Fought a really different Ken who was basically the most SRK heavy person I've ever fought. Worked them into basically every mix up. Didn't even know they could be used so aggressively.

I love the feeling you get when you get a read on someone and you're like "Okay, I know exactly what you're going to do next."

How does crouching medium kick make the wakeup headbutt miss? Is it some hit box trickery? Can I do a similar thing with Chunners?

Sound advice there though man. +1

Yeah it is hitbox trickery. The hitbox on 'rog's headbutt doesn't reach all the way to the ground;

Ryu's cr.mk lowers his profile so drastically that you can slip right under it. Akuma and a few others can do it too.

With Chun I do the same thing with crouching medium punch as it makes her duck down extremely low. It's a bit harder to time though as it's a slower move than Ryu's MK. You can also use Chun's cr. mp to make a lot of jump ins whiff and then grabb/cr. lk the opponent as they land.

Covered in Bees achievment progress: Adon now B rank, 68.3% winrate. Just Gouken and Juri left!

if I get those two done I guess I might as well add on the AE four, seeing as I'm hopeless with them and I'm envious of Jellum, Alistarr and Donut's combo flair. And the lesser-spotted Choo with Yang.

Someone was saying the other day that they hadn't watched a good tournament in a while. Apparently Summer Jam happened a couple of weekends ago and the final day archive is here:

http://www.twitch.tv/teamsp00ky/b/447919272

Those guys play some real Street Fighter characters. Marvel is pretty entertaining too. The first day is there as well, but I'm sure you can find it if you're so inclined.

And next weekend it's The Fall Classic, which might be awesome. It'll be on Spooky's channel as well.

Yus, I shall work my way through that.

There was a Capcom Cup qualifying tournament in Brazil recently too. Sako, Ryan Hart, KaneBlueRiver and BrenoFighters amongst those in attendance. Bough DOA5U on Friday night and I'm back playing this already.

Just beat a B rank Gief tonight, felt pretty good (I'm the Ryu who struggled with gief a few pages back). Although I'm starting to think a lot of guys up to and including B rank got there exclusively by anticipating fireballs and punishing jump ins. I really utilised cr mk (What else?) and sweep and he didn't really have any answers to those two normals.

You can basically hit B rank just by playing a lot of matches - you only have to win about 40% of your games to keep creeping towards that B rank, but after that point you have to win significantly more than half your matches to get any further up the ladder (if you followed the thread a year or so ago you'd have heard me and Joffocakes complaining about the fear of, or reality of, having a "B of shame", that is to say we ranked up to B but then our points fell back down below 5000).

I shy away from ranked because JLM came to visit and won a bunch of ranked matches on my account and now I'm scared to lose all those ill-gotten points (because if you have lots of points I think good players in endless battle tend to give you a couple more games even if they win the first one easily, and I am a slow learner and often really struggle to put up a fight in the first game and a half!), but in endless battle I find you can still fight 3000PP/7000BP players who are pretty unremarkable - often they have their amazing setups that will win them single ranked matches but once you've adapted then they start to struggle - and on the other hand there are a lot of players with hardly any points who really know their stuff and will steadily download you and then beat you five in a row.

On the other hand, to get to B rank they've still played a lot of matches so should know how to play, so winning is definitely an achievement. And hey, even more importantly, the whole point of ranked matches is to get points by winning one game and taking points off people who currently have more points than you, so you should definitely celebrate that victory! Enjoy those points!

My B of shame story with Juri is kind of similar - up to C+ I was able to grind out points simply by playing loads of matches; even if I lost a few I'd inevitably make it up with wins later (and I had player preferences set to "any skill" so I was as likely to get a D-rank player as I was an A+); after I hit B I tried to keep the streak going, but the more matches I lost the more desperate I became to make up the lost points (and at B you can only get significant BP drops from players of equal or higher grade); as a result, my BP is now 4800-something and I haven't gone back to ranked in ages, favouring lobbies instead... :P

So Sako did some exhibition matches whilst in Brazil for the Capcom cup qualifier and someone has compiled the most violent parts below. I swear he seems to invent new Rufus only combos every time he fights the poor ball o'blubber. I actually liked the Gief juggle with EX red fireball into stomp the most though as I had never seen it done before and will be stealing it.

Magical, magical hands.

If you have a 360, you can get Injustice for free by setting up a Costa Rican account (takes all of 5 minutes but you need to be on your 360 to start the download).

Anyone got it? My brother's got it on PS3 and I've had a quick go on it but not enough to really know anything about it. I generally don't bother with other fighters as I'm already crap at SF, so it's not like I've got time to be branching out but I might give it a go as I've heard good things and now I can use my Fightstick with it.

I guess I might get it for free, then. I was almost considering buying it on Wii U so I could justify buying sanwa parts for my Tatsunoko stick. I already have thon Romanian account "ArmandoIannucci" so I guess I can get myself an exotic Costa Rican one too.

Back on topic I'm actually kind of excited about GTA V. I'll likely buy it on Tuesday, even. I'll never play it.

Yesterday I made braised leeks with shallots and thyme.

I'm actually finding myself drawn to GTA5 too. Not really sure why, but I think it might just be nostalgia for GTA4 which was a lot of fun until I realised I didn't really like it.

Also I see Joffocakes already has a better jetpack joyride score than me.

Oh yes! It feels somewhat dishonest since I lucked out with an extra life AND a big blast. I kinda like the game but there are too many daft random elements and it makes my phone really warm and unpleasant to hold.

Yes, mine too. It's an annoying game in several respects. I congratulate you on your score and I now hate you, but I'm probably not going back to it!

I tried that halo spartan assault game yesterday. It's nice and halo-ish. I'm not quite at a stage in my life where I will pay for a phone game though so I played the demo level once, chucked some plasma, and turned it off.
