Ultra Street Fighter IV

I should be able to make it, though I might be driving up from my parents' house that morning so may be a bit bleary eyed. I need to do some serious practising before then, though, because I am significantly worse at the game than I was two weeks ago!

USF4 Rufus tings:

• Rufus' forward throw damage is now the same as the rest of the cast. Reduced to about 135.

• Opponents will not fall out of Rufus' Ultra 2 as easily anymore.

• Rufus' Ultra 2 seeing a slight damage reduction.

Mugh. That's all alright. Rufus is pretty strong and can put on a lot of safe pressure. I assume they'll probably reduce the damage on Ultra 1 too? It does a lot of damage for something he has so many setups for. I like Rufus as he is. That they're fixing the EX Messiah going over crouchers is more than enough.

Ultra 2 is still great against Akuma, Sagat and Blanka. E Honda too I guess. I like trying to beat Akuma players using nothing but focus absorbs on fireballs and Ultra 2. It's marvellous fun. Only really works against dreadful Akuma players, obviously. Three Ultras just about does it.

Yeah I'd be fine with them leaving him largely unchanged. With a lot of the cast I'd mainly like little bits of tidying up like they've done for Ryu with the cr.MK xx uppercut shortcut.

Good stuff on forward throw damage, that always seemed a bit much. That and the Messiah fix is more than enough, I think. I don't think they could ever make Ultra 2 that worthwhile without giving it the same number of setups as Ultra 1 (which is the best Ultra in the game anyway). Does it stuff vortex characters? You'd think it would but if it did I'd have expected to have seen a lot more of it over the years than I have.

Oh, it definitely stops the kunai vortex nonsense from Ibuki. I think a lot of Akuma and Seth's nonsense are pretty much safe jumps though. If Ultra 1 has slightly less range (it does reach surprisingly far) then Ultra 2 might see a big more use. You can use Ultra 1 after a Galactic Tornado mid screen against Balrog, Vega and Sagat, possibly more. I guess folk might not wanna lose that.

I think Ultra 2 is too easy to safe jump to risk using against most vortex stuff.

I don't think Ultra 1 needs a damage nerf just because it has lots of setups, though. That's kind of the point of Rufus.

Of course, I'm firmly in the "change as little as possible" school of thought on this update.

I'm currently working on a counterblog to Andy Kelly's gamerfury one. I've started sending out really nice complimentary messages to everyone I face in ranked and once I have some nice replies I'll set it all up.

Progress report: Zero replies so far.

Thanks for the games, everyone. Sorry for dashing before even getting to see Joffocakes play, much less against fight him, but I have promised to do some housework before my partner returns home this evening, and that time is now approaching rapidly. What a foolish promise to make.

Also: Who is going to the Gamerdisco thing? I'm all set.

Also also: Hegg added me on Facebook, but I didn't accept his request for ages because I don't know his surname so I kept scrutinising the profile picture, not recognising the person in it at all and wondering if we'd met. I have definitely never met Yuri Gagarin

Haha, excellent. I don't mean to confuse people with that, I just tend not to have pictures of me as my profile pic.

I could probably do the disco thing, next Wednesday evening right?

*Pokes head nervously round door*

Evening gents, not too sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm now the proud owner of Street Fighter IV 3D Edition for the 3DS and was wondering if there's much of a scene for 3DS play at all. I'm a real beginner but would be great to have a few games at some point (pro mode only of course!). How does it generally hold up against its console counterpart? I'll post up my friend code in a bit if anyone's up for a game at some point.

Oh, and erm, let's see... Err... Well, Ryu's so boring that when he goes to see a Gus Van Sant film at the cinema, it's the film that falls asleep!

Did I get that right? Am I in now?

Welcome! Street Fighter!

The 3DS version hasn't been updated with recent patches from the last year or so, but that's okay because the version that's there is one of the best versions. It plays really well, too, and if you are a purist you can even turn off the 3D in the menus and get it running at the console-standard 60fps. Not that that's essential by any means.

I will happily play a few rounds with you at some point, though I must confess I haven't found my 3DS after moving house just yet...

Feel free to post any questions you might have once you get started, too. As you've surely gathered already, we love nothing better than an excuse to talk at length about Street Fighter.

Brilliant, thanks very much. My friend code is 4270-0533-6344 if you ever get round to finding your 3DS!

I've played a lot of Third Strike previously (maining Ibuki back on the Dreamcast!), but I haven't got an Xbox/PS3 and so have only been able to play a bit of SF4 in the arcades. Which leads me onto a quick question - if I got Arcade Edition on Steam, would I be able to cross play with you lot?

I don't have the 3DS version of Street Fighter IV anymore. I could probably go get it again since it's a fiver in a bunch of places. I probably should never have traded it in since it wasn't worth much at all and I don't think I'll dedicate the time to getting as much complete as I did before.

Very very good version of the game, though. Dan's not as good in that version though. Sadness.

Also, I've been playing El Fuerte in ranked in my quest to get Covered in B's. I'm up to 2000BP with him now and in about an hour and a half of playing I've had five ragequits and three separate people kicking me out of their lobbies repeatedly. I did also beat an A+ Guile and an A Blanka. Them fellas can't take the spash hassle!

You can cross play with me, Imp, Choo, Uzi and Nate*, because we all have the PC version too, but you can't cross play with Xbox players, no, sorry.

JPR has a theory that AE will be a daily deal on Steam at some point soon, because it was one of the summer sale user vote options that didn't get picked. It's not exactly hideously expensive at its standard price, of course.

*If I missed anyone then SORRY. Also if putting two footnotes on the same word wasn't impossibly awkward I'd also say something amusing here about Nate hardly ever playing Street Fighter any more.

Welcome Let's measure:) Hope to play you sometime. Just remember the unwritten rule of the SF thread: "You're not allowed to hit Zangief"...

Just read that "fireballs are boring" article; wow. Then I read the comments below and felt sorry for him; then I read his responses to the comments, where he simply. will. not. let. go. and. concede. he's. wrong

Jumping on now to practice dropping combos:)

You always miss me out and I even talked about playing against Nate with the Error01 patch, much sadness. You just look down on the bottom tier you do with your fancy fat man :(

I also have the 3DS version too and other people are in the spreadsheet in my sig. Feel free to add yourself :)

Well done Mr Joffo you'll soon baypass my BP :) , I hope you a putting a few cheeky taunts in after some of the knockdowns with your Elf :)
