Ultra Street Fighter IV

So 4Gamer interviewed Ono at Comic-con and posted the details a couple of days ago, and Siliconera has provided an English version of the interview notes here :)

“Personally, I don’t want to stop Street Fighter’s main numbered series at IV...”

Yay!

“For Fighting games, we’re always thinking about finding ‘something’ which can be acquired by paying money. If can find that, I believe things would go smoothly. One of our trials was the ‘Gems’ of Street Fighter X Tekken.”

Hmm.

I just do f, f, ddddddddddddddddddddddddPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP. You can do the down inputs while the dash animation is happening, yes.

Woooooo! I did it! My first ever and most definitely last clearance of a character's trials.

Do I get a prize?

Has anyone here done all thirty odd? I've only completed Cody's trials and that took me ages, although I'll admit once you're at the stage you can complete a level 24 your execution will have come on in leaps and bounds from day one which will transfer over to similar characters (still can't get my head round charge characters though, or how you do 720s without jumping).

I think maybe six of us have done all the trials? Alistarr, imp and Jellum I think... Donut maybe? Probably Goemon too. GC Zombie seems to 100% every game ever so probably him too.

Perseverance was the main thing that saw me through. I quite enjoy thankless repetition. Did all the 3DS and 3rd Strike Online trials too*. I find the Marvel and KoF XIII ones impossible.

*Cheated a little by using the now patched stun glitch for some of them. Definitely Elena's.

Just got soundly trounced by Rotarrius in a fun run of Endless matches there. Remarkable use of Blanka's anti-air normals from him, which is something you don't see from the Blanka players infesting ranked. Nice Abel mixin' up also! I've been trying to get him up to B in ranked today so I'll be stealing some of that.

For anyone experiencing stream withdrawal after Evo, the VXG event had good Street Fighter. Chris G vs Ryan Hart, Sanford vs Gamerbee, Mike Ross and Combofiend on occasional commentary duty... And I'm still watching the pools:

Top 8 is hiding somewhere at about the three hour mark in Sunday's archive:

I finished fourth at the SFO tournament this month guys. Two monumental chokes where my sweaty hands caused me to miss EX SBK and eat damage for no reason were the culprits. I am too salty to even do a full write up, though you can watch me choke it up here if you're feeling especially mean: http://www.twitch.tv/sfotv/b/437201499

In the runback against Domihy's Guile I ended up losing because I was in too strong a position. I had full meter, ultra stocked and a comfortable life lead. I only needed a bit of chip but I got so fixated on not throwing out something stupid for him to react to that my twitch reactions went and I sat and did nothing when he gave me multiple opportunities to finish him off. So, so mad about that, and what's worse is that the stream was on a slight delay so I got to see an instant replay of the final seconds of the round as I stood up with my head in my hands. Chokey McChoke.

I suppose it says something for how much I've improved offline that I'm considering 4th a big disappointment, but I lost to two players I've already beaten in tournament and one who I had already sent to losers earlier in the day. I'm also disappointed that OverMostHeads won the tournament and I didn't get my runback against him. As much as I rate Domihy's Guile, he got convincingly battered by OMH and I think myself or Ghost may have put on a better show against him in GFs. Next time! On the plus side, a particularly gobby player from Teeside came down and went 0 and 2 in tournament. Freeside. Also Marvel was hype because it's Marvel. Lastly, Tekken Tag 2 only had three players registered and therefore didn't run at all. Shame.

On a less salty note, I played twenty or so games of Dudley mirrors against PAPER MICKI from France and it was excellent fun. We both had different approaches to the mid-range, the up close pressure game, meter use and our preferred b'n'b and style combos so it didn't feel like a mirror match at all oddly enough. I tend to do longer extended juggles for stun whereas he was more into max damage grounded combos. Either way the fights were full of lots of lovely stuff and we were both delving deeper and deeper into our respective Dudley tech pools as it went on. The mirror match also has the added bonus of Dudley's teleport overhead gimmick working against himself, though I only got to use it once against him. Very pleasant and complimentary messages exchanged afterwards too. Between this and the set I had against Mr. K, I think Dudley mirrors is one of my favourite matches in the game.
