Ultra Street Fighter IV

I've really struggled with Infinite. Keep having the odd half hour on it here and there but it's just not taking hold.

This happens a lot, to be fair. Far Cry 3 was the same but that's finally clicked in the last couple of days so that will be my next obsession. Also Rogue Legacy is excellent and my word, Jamestown's pretty good too. Also I am replaying Assassin's Creed II. I love that game.

I did play this game the other night, briefly, when Cale came round to help me with Divekick and we managed about 20 minutes before playing the Error001 AE hack, which was fun. Dan is brilliant, Abel is baffling, and Cale figured out some pretty sick stuff with Rose's EX Soul Throw which has the range and speed of Vega's EX wall dives. Luckily DK is proving pretty popular in the office - just came back from lunch to find people playing it. S-Kill is too OP.

Oh, if you see a Mr. N colour with a blue suit and a red cape, that's me and my Kickstarter backer meddlings.

Also damn you for already having the game.

Also what format are rllmuk divekickers going to be playing? Everyone has a PC, but it's crossplay on PSN so I could get it on the Vita.

I'll probably get both.

Does he have a tendency to get a bit emotional and teary when the going gets a bit too much for him?

Other games! I'm all up in Animal Crossing's nuts still. I also have Monster Hunter, which I did actually start to play but quickly realised it's probably going to have to wait until I've pissed all of my villagers off. I'm working on it, though.

Jamestown is one of my favourite favourite shooters. Everything about it is so well done. The way it teaches you to slowly ramp up the difficulty is masterful, the different ships are fun and allow for variety in playstyles, even the music is fantastic! Choo and I once came very close to 1CCing it on hardestestest. I might start playing that game again.

Yes! Mount your friends, Hidden in Plain Sight and that one with the combos in it.

I played through Bleed in co-op twice with two different people today and it was loads of fun.

I have also just returned from a multiplayer all nighter where we played Bomberman on PSN (not as good as Saturn Bomberman but still fun because it's Bomberman), Little Big Mario Sonic Racing Karts (not even half as good as Mario Kart or Sonic Racing) and PlayStation Brawlstars Melee. The latter is a good laugh, mostly trying to get to level 3 to see how insane the next one would be. Not as good as Smash Brothers obviously, but definitely had a good time with it. Once I've seen all the level 3 supers I'd probably get a bit tired of it, though I loved being able to play as Parappa. My main take away from the evening is that I have big time nostalgia pangs for Parappa the rapper and must play it again soon.

I love being home for the summer because it means I get back into playing Street Fighter - all my friends have improved a lot and most of them are better than me now which is genuinely pleasing. It turns out I'm even worse at dealing with focus attacks than I was back in spring, though. And just as I get back into SF again, my Live runs out and I'm not sure I can really afford to subscribe again. :( I'm trying to unlearn muscle memory and learn Balrog's medium punch link which I'm finding tricky.

Also, I'm very happy to see Hugo being added to the cast.

Freezycold: Sorry dude. I don't have notifications on for when watching videos so I've only just seen your message.

Also been spending the weekend with my wonderful fiancé watching crap as I've fractured my ankle. But that does mean I'll be around in the week if you wanna arrange something.

I bet the fifth Ultra character is best-named-snowboarder Dion Blaster. Check out this official SFIV styled art:

Oh man, 1080's intro had the finest lyrics ever. I've never been able to fathom what they are, but it just doesn't matter. So good.

Such a great game too; and Wave Race. What the hell happened with the respective Gamecube versions? The only good thing about Blue Storm was the way the announcer pronounced 'Buoy'

Also, Jellum and I need to have a Parap battle the next time we meet. I still have a copy of the game.

You take that back! The loading screens where you could manipulate the water were nice too...

(Actually I really liked Bluestorm, not as much as the original admittedly)

Has anyone got any tips on how to do Hakan's trial número (that's Turkish for "number") 19? 2x focus attack into Ultra? I can't get the Ultra out quick enough to connect.

Do a full level 3 focus attack for the first one, dashing out as it connects (you can input the dash as early as when the attacking part of the animation begins, no need to wait for it to actually hit. As soon as it does hit you'll dash) then once you've dashed in and they're crumpled quickly tap and release another focus, just level one, and it should knock the dummy a little into the air. Dash forward out of this one too and mash away on down and 3xKick during the dash. As long as they've not landed the Ultra will connect.

That makes it sound more complicated than it really is. Just level 3 focus, dash, level 1 focus, dash, Ultra.

Also I was disappointed by Waverace Blue Storm too. So confused as to why the perfectly captured buoyancy of the N64 game was lost. Those loading screens were nice though. I also liked that they called it Blue Storm then briefly touted White Storm for 1080 before realising it was a bit like cocaine ir something. If they'd stuck with that naming convention we might have seen an Excitebike: Brown Storm.

I loved the original Excitebike for some reason. I simply cannot figure out how you're supposed to enjoy it now though.

Ono made another reference to SFxT's gems being an experiment in Free to Play business models there. I think he too now disagrees that the nature of the genre makes Pay to Win style transactions unworkable. I still think F2P could work though, even on a pay per character basis, and might bring a lot of fresh blood to the genre if their respective tutorials are well thought out with newcomers in mind. I want everyone to play fighting games. SFIV did an amazing thing in giving me the drive to learn and understand them and it's an amazing thing. There's games I played 20 years ago I can return to with a new understanding of how they work. Fighting games are great.

I hope the next big name fighting game has a single player mode dedicated to teaching and testing the players understanding of the game and genre's various techniques rather than bombarding them with an intimidating wall-of-text tutorial which will be forgotten. A branching Quest mode where progress requires you to utilize certain techniques to succeed, has harder paths to return and unlock and full completion ensures you've experienced the full cast to get a feel for them would be wonderful. The linear path could just be fights as your chosen character in the traditional style. That could actually be entertaining. More so than simply slogging through Arcade mode with every character on a meaningless Hardest difficulty which teaches you nothing.

Good morning. I woke up early because I'm not feeling well from the ill-advised Jalfrezi Pizza and Pakora combo last night.

Re Hakan's Ultra Trial 19, I hit up youtube for some pointers last night and the vid I checked looked like the first focus barely got to level 2, which may be why I couldn't connect with the Ultra. Will give it a whirl this afternoon saying as summer looks to be over now.

No, you can do as much focus as you want on the first one as long as they crumple, and as long as you dash out of it at the end. What you then need to do is then delay your second focus a moment so that they're technically airborne - if you do the second focus too early you'll just re-stand them. The second focus can be as short as you like, but then while it's coming out you need to buffer your forward dash and then the down inputs for the ultra. As soon as you see Hakan finish his forward dash (at which point the dummy should be airborne having been popped up by the second focus) then mash your buttons for the ultra.
